Description
Blue Dolphin stud tape (acoustic tape) is a specially designed sealing solution made of high-quality closed-cell polyethylene foam. The main purpose of the product is to act as a separating and damping layer between building materials, especially in lightweight partition wall structures. The tape aims to reduce sound transmission through structures, which improves the acoustic comfort of rooms.
The closed-cell foam chosen as the material of the tape offers excellent physical properties for demanding construction conditions. The material does not absorb water, which makes it a reliable choice also for applications where moisture resistance is important. In addition, the foam is rot-proof and withstands most chemicals commonly used on construction sites, which ensures a long-lasting seal.
To make installation more efficient, Blue Dolphin stud tape has a highly adhesive surface. This strong adhesive ensures that the tape stays reliably in place on the mounting surface, such as a steel stud, during boarding. The adhesive surface is protected by an easily removed siliconised paper liner, which makes the product easy to install and speeds up work steps on site.
The combination of sound damping, moisture resistance and easy installation makes this insulating tape an essential component in modern construction when the aim is to create high-quality wall structures that perform well acoustically.
Intended use:
- Sound insulation of partition walls: The main use of the product is sealing the joint between steel studs (or timber studs) and plasterboards. Installing the tape on the stud before boarding breaks the direct contact between the materials. Breaking these so-called “sound bridges” damps vibration and significantly reduces the transmission of sound (structure-borne noise) through the structure to another room.
- General structural sealing and vibration damping: Thanks to its closed-cell, flexible construction, the tape can also be used in other applications where a separating strip is needed between two materials. It is suitable for vibration damping and for preventing air and dust from passing through joints.
Features:
- Sound insulation: Designed to reduce sound transmission by joining the steel stud to the plasterboard with a flexible layer.
- Closed-cell construction: Made of polyethylene foam, which gives tight, durable insulation.
- Non-absorbent: The material does not absorb water, which prevents moisture problems at the joint.
- Chemical resistance: Withstands most common construction chemicals.
- Rot-proof: The material does not rot over time, ensuring long-lasting performance.
- Highly adhesive: The strong adhesive surface keeps the tape securely in place during installation.
- Easy installation: The siliconised liner is easy to remove, which speeds up work.
Technical specifications:
- Material: Closed-cell polyethylene foam (PE foam)
- Width: 50 mm
- Length: 30 m
- Adhesive type: Highly adhesive (Highly adhesive)
- Liner: Siliconised paper
Instructions for use:
For the best result, the mounting surface (e.g. a steel or timber stud) should be clean, dry and free of dust and grease. Start the installation by unrolling the tape and peeling the siliconised liner off the adhesive surface. Press the adhesive side of the tape firmly onto the surface of the stud, aligning it with the centre of the stud. Continue applying the tape along the whole length of the stud, removing the liner as you go. Cut the tape to a suitable length with a sharp knife or scissors. When the stud tape has been fitted to all the necessary studs, plasterboards or other boards can be installed as normal by screwing them to the studs through the tape.
Warnings:
The product is designed for use as an acoustic insulating and sealing tape between structures. It is not intended as a load-bearing structure and does not replace fire stops unless otherwise stated in the product’s technical data. Make sure the product is suitable and compatible with special materials before use. Store the product in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, so that the properties of the adhesive stay optimal until installation.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Why is it worth using stud tape in partition walls?
Stud tape acts as a flexible separating layer between the wall frame (stud) and the board. This breaks the so-called sound bridge, which effectively prevents structure-borne noise and vibration from passing from one structure to another, improving sound insulation between rooms.
Does Blue Dolphin insulating tape withstand moisture?
Yes. The tape is made of closed-cell polyethylene foam, which does not absorb water. This makes it a safe choice also for places where there may be moisture stress, as it does not promote mould growth.
Which surfaces does the tape adhere to best?
The tape has a highly adhesive surface optimised to adhere to the most common building materials, such as steel studs, wood and metal, provided the surfaces are clean and dry.
Recycling instructions:
Polyethylene foam tape taken out of use or left over can typically be disposed of as energy waste or mixed waste according to local waste management regulations. The siliconised liner removed from the tape is usually sorted as energy waste or mixed waste; check local sorting instructions. The cardboard core of the product and any packaging cardboard should be recycled in cardboard collection.
