Description
Painter radiator brush 90% TOPS mixed bristle FSC K05 is a special tool designed especially for finishing awkward, hard-to-reach places. The most distinctive features of this brush are its exceptionally long handle and its bristle head bent at an angle, which let you paint behind obstacles and in narrow gaps. The product was originally designed for painting behind radiators, but its unique geometry suits many other places that a standard brush cannot reach.
The painting properties of the brush are based on its 90% TOPS mixed bristle. The marking means that at least 90 per cent of the individual bristles in the bristle head are full length, reaching from the metal ferrule right to the tip of the brush. This forms a dense, high-capacity paint reservoir in the bristles that can hold a considerable amount of paint at a time. The even, long bristles help release the paint onto the surface in a controlled way, reducing the need to dip and reload the brush while painting.
The mixed bristle used is a combination of natural bristle and synthetic fibre. The synthetic fibre gives the brush body and stops it going limp with water-based products, while the natural bristle improves liquid holding. The combination of materials makes the brush versatile, as it is fully compatible with both water- and solvent-based paints, varnishes and wood stains, whatever their chemistry.
The long, sturdy body of the product is made of FSC-certified wood. The certificate guarantees that the wood used comes from responsibly and sustainably managed forests. The wooden handle gives a steady grip even when the brush is held right at its end for maximum reach. The bristles are locked into the wooden handle with a mechanically durable, angled metal ferrule that holds them tightly and withstands long exposure to paints and cleaning solvents.
Intended use:
- Painting radiators: An optimal brush for painting the backs of fitted radiators, gaps and the spaces between sections, thanks to its angled tip and long handle.
- Narrow gaps and recesses: Lets you get paint behind pipes, into deep gaps between shelves and into structural cavities that short-handled tools cannot reach.
- High places: The extra reach of the long handle helps you reach higher, for example when painting cornices, corners and high pipe runs, without an extension pole.
- General painting: Works as a conventional brush in a wide range of painting and varnishing work with water- and solvent-based products when you need a steady, controllable stroke from further away.

Painter radiator brush K05 instructions for use:
Before you start painting, it is advisable to brush the brush lightly with your fingers to remove any loose dust particles. Dip no more than half of the bristles into the paint. Because a radiator brush is often used horizontally in narrow gaps, too much paint can run into the metal ferrule or drip outside the area being painted. Guide the angled bristle head to the spot you want and apply the paint with calm strokes, using the leverage and reach of the long handle.
During short breaks in painting, protect the brush from drying out by wrapping the bristle head tightly in airtight plastic or cling film. Do not stand the brush on its bristles against the bottom of the paint tin, as the angled shape and long handle can twist and damage the structure of the bristles.
Clean the brush without delay after use. Wash water-based paints out with warm water and mild soap until the rinse water is completely clear. With solvent-based products, clean first with the solvent specified by the paint manufacturer, then wash the brush with soap and water. Dry the tool by squeezing out the excess liquid, shape the bristles back to their original form and leave the brush to dry on a flat surface.
Warnings:
Always make sure the work area is well ventilated, especially when using solvent-based paints or strong cleaning chemicals. Follow the paint manufacturer’s instructions on personal protective equipment. If the radiator brush is used to apply oxidising and self-igniting substances (e.g. linseed oil), note the fire risk. Oily bristles must be cleaned immediately or kept in a container of water to prevent spontaneous combustion.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Why is the radiator brush angled?
The angled metal ferrule and bristle head are designed into radiator brushes so that you can reach behind objects. When the long handle is held straight, the angled tip points sideways and lets you paint, for example, the gap between a wall and a fitted radiator with a sideways movement.
Can the 90% TOPS mixed bristle be used with water-based paints?
Yes, the mixed bristle is designed specifically to be versatile. Although the natural bristle absorbs liquid, the synthetic fibre in the blend keeps its spring in water, making the brush excellent for modern water-based paints too.
What is the 90% TOPS construction?
It is a property related to the length of the bristles. It means that 90% of the bristles in the brush are full length, reaching from the ferrule right to the tip. This makes the bristles thicker at the tip, holding more paint than brushes with more short, layered bristles.
Recycling instructions:
A brush that has been washed completely clean and is dry can be disposed of with normal mixed waste at the end of its life. If, however, the bristles contain undried paint or chemical residues classified as hazardous waste (e.g. solvent paints), the brush must be taken to a hazardous waste collection point according to local instructions. The materials of the product packaging are sorted into cardboard or plastic collection.
