Description
The Schwan varnish brush is designed especially for painting and varnishing jobs that need precision and a smooth surface. The key feature of the product is its high-quality synthetic bristles. Unlike natural bristles, synthetic bristles do not absorb water. This property is critical when using modern water-based paints and varnishes: the bristles do not swell or go too soft from the moisture, and they keep their stiffness and shape throughout the work. The result is a considerably more even finish without distracting brush marks.
The brush has a traditional shaped wooden handle that gives a natural, secure grip. The wooden surface is comfortable in the hand even in longer projects. There is an integrated hanging hole at the end of the handle, which makes it easier to dry the brush after washing and allows neat storage on a tool wall. This brush is an ideal choice where the final smoothness of the surface is of prime importance.

Schwan varnish brush instructions for use:
Before first use, brush the brush against your hand to remove any loose bristles. Dip the brush into the paint or varnish to about halfway up the bristles. Wipe off excess on the rim of the tin. Apply with long, even strokes in the direction of the wood grain. Finish the surface with light strokes from end to end without adding paint to even out the finish.
Cleaning: As the brush is intended for water-based products, wash it immediately after use with warm water and mild soap. Rinse until the water runs clear. Shape the bristles back to their original shape with your fingers and hang the brush to dry with the bristles pointing down, so that water does not run inside the ferrule (which could swell the wooden handle or rust the ferrule).
Warnings:
- Solvents: Although synthetic bristles withstand many substances, strong solvents (such as acetone) can damage the bristles. Check suitability before using with solvent-based paints.
- Heat: Do not leave the brush on hot surfaces, as the synthetic bristles can melt or warp.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Can this brush be used for oil paints?
Technically the brush can be used, but natural or blended bristles are often recommended for oil paints because they pick up more paint. This model is optimised for water-based products.
Why are synthetic bristles better for water-based paints?
Natural bristles absorb water and go “limp”, so you lose the feel for painting. Synthetic bristles repel water and keep their springiness, which makes applying the paint more controlled.
Recycling instructions:
A dried brush is mixed waste. A clean brush can be taken apart: the metal ferrule to metal collection, the wooden handle to energy waste and the bristles to mixed waste. A brush containing wet paint must be treated as hazardous waste according to the instructions on the paint tin.
