Description
The Schwan card scraper 70 x 130 mm is a traditional, versatile surface treatment tool made of hardened steel. This rectangular tool is designed especially for finishing wooden surfaces, where it gives a smoother result than sandpaper by cutting the wood fibre instead of tearing it. The flexibility of the steel plate allows precise control of force when levelling unevenness.
The tool has a wide range of uses and is excellent for removing paint and varnish from wooden surfaces without chemicals or dusty sanding. The sharp edges bite efficiently into the old coating without damaging the material underneath when the tool is used at the right angle. Thanks to its construction, it is long-lasting, and the edge can be resharpened with a file and a burnisher.
As well as woodwork, the product has established its place in ski and snowboard maintenance. It is used to remove excess wax from the base (scraping) and to remove and level the hairs on the base. The 70 x 130 mm size offers a large working surface, which speeds up working even large areas.
Intended use:
- Woodworking and finishing: For the final smoothing of planed or sanded wooden surfaces before surface treatment. Removes tool marks efficiently.
- Removing coatings: For mechanical removal of old paint, varnish or glue residue from flat surfaces.
- Ski and equipment maintenance: For levelling and removing glide wax from ski bases and levelling P-Tex repairs to the base material.

Card scraper instructions for use:
Woodworking: Hold the scraper with both hands and bend it slightly into a curve by pressing in the middle with your thumbs. Push or pull the scraper along the grain of the wood at an angle of about 45–60 degrees. A correctly sharpened scraper produces thin shavings, not dust.
Paint removal: Use the scraper stiffer and scrape the surface clean.
Ski maintenance: Remove cooled glide wax by drawing the scraper from the tip of the ski towards the tail with even pressure until the excess wax has been removed.
Warnings:
The edges of the product are sharp and can cause cuts if handled carelessly. Metal chips can come off the steel during sharpening, so wearing safety glasses is recommended during maintenance. The friction produced during use can heat the steel plate.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Question: Does the scraper come ready sharpened?
Answer: The factory sharpening is usually enough for rough work and paint removal. For fine joinery, making a new burr with a burnisher is recommended to get the best cutting properties.
Question: Does this tool rust?
Answer: Yes, the tool is made of carbon steel or a similar alloy that can rust in damp conditions. We recommend wiping the tool lightly with oil for storage.
Recycling instructions:
The product is made of metal and must be taken to metal collection at the end of its life.
