Description
Yato battery charger 18V 4.5A (YT-828501) is a smart dual fast charger for the Yato 18 V battery system with two battery slots and its own 4.5 A charging current. Two batteries charge simultaneously at full current, so a pair of batteries is ready to use after one charge.
The charger connects to 200–240 V mains power (50/60 Hz) and its rated current is 4 A. The output voltage is 21.5 V DC. Built-in monitoring checks the battery condition and temperature: charging does not start if the cells are too hot, and charging a battery stored in freezing conditions starts only once the battery has warmed above +5 °C.
The charging times are 35 min (2.0 Ah YT-828461), 40 min (3.0 Ah YT-828462), 55 min (4.0 Ah YT-828463), 78 min (6.0 Ah YT-828464) and 120 min (9.0 Ah YT-828465). There are indicator lights next to each battery slot showing charging, a full battery, overheating of the battery or charger, and fault conditions.
The charger itself weighs 0.79 kg. The protection class is II (double insulated, no earth) and the IP rating IPX0, which means the charger is intended for dry indoor spaces. There are hanging holes on the back of the housing for wall mounting.
Uses and suitability:
The Yato battery charger 18V 4.5A is intended for fast charging of Yato 18V system Li-Ion batteries when several batteries are in use and charging breaks need to be short. A slower alternative for one battery is the Yato battery charger 18V 2.2A and a single-battery fast charger is the Yato battery charger 18V 2.4-4.5A smart fast charger.
- Continuous use of cordless tools: two batteries charge during work, so when a third battery runs out, two full ones are immediately available.
- Garden and forestry work: the 4.0 Ah batteries of the trimmer, hedge trimmer and pole saw charge in 55 minutes, which is usually enough during a work break.
- Workshops and sites: a wall-mounted charging station for the batteries of several tools; the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery is compatible in all capacities.
- Charging large batteries: 6.0 Ah and 9.0 Ah batteries charge in 78 and 120 minutes, whereas a basic mains charger takes 3–4.5 hours.

Instructions for using the Yato battery charger 18V 4.5A:
Charging: push the battery (or two batteries) into the charger’s battery slot until the latch locks. Connect the mains cable to the charger and to a socket. The battery slot’s indicator light flashes green while charging and stays green when the battery is full. A flashing red light means the battery has overheated: charging continues once the battery has cooled.
After charging: first unplug the mains cable from the socket and only then remove the battery from the charger by pressing the battery latch. Do not leave the charger permanently connected to the mains.
Temperature: charge the battery in a well-ventilated space, preferably at about +20 °C. A battery brought in from the cold charges only once its temperature is above +5 °C.
Maintenance: check the condition of the charger, mains cable and plug before every use. Clean the housing and battery slots with a dry cloth with the charger unplugged. Have a damaged cable replaced at an authorised service centre.
Warnings:
- Charge only the Yato 18V system Li-Ion batteries listed in the instruction manual; charging other batteries can cause an electric shock or a fire. The charger connection or the battery must not be modified.
- For indoor use in dry spaces only (IPX0): do not expose to moisture or rain.
- Before connecting, check that the mains voltage matches the rating plate value of 200–240 V.
- Do not smoke or bring open flames near the charger or battery.
- Always unplug the mains cable after charging and before maintenance.
- Children over 8 and people with reduced capabilities may use the unit only under supervision; children must not clean or maintain the unit without supervision.
- Do not use the charger if the housing, cable or plug is damaged.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Do both batteries charge at the full 4.5 A at the same time? Yes. The Yato battery charger 18V 4.5A gives each battery slot its own 4.5 A charging current, and the rated mains current is 4 A.
How fast does a 4.0 Ah battery charge? According to the manufacturer’s table, in 55 minutes (YT-828463). A 2.0 Ah battery charges in 35 minutes and a 9.0 Ah battery in 120 minutes.
Why does charging not start straight away with a cold battery? The charger’s temperature monitoring starts charging only once the battery temperature is above +5 °C. This protects the Li-Ion cells.
What do the indicator lights mean? Flashing green = charging, steady green = battery full, flashing red = battery overheated, steady red = battery faulty.
Is the charger suitable for older Yato 18V batteries? Yes. The instruction manual lists batteries YT-82842…YT-82845 and YT-828461…YT-828465 as compatible.
Recycling instructions:
Sort the cardboard packaging into cardboard collection. The Yato battery charger 18V 4.5A is an electrical device (WEEE): take a discarded charger and mains cable to a waste electrical and electronic equipment collection point or the retailer, not to mixed waste. The charger contains no battery; recycle Li-Ion batteries separately at a battery collection point with the terminals taped.
