Description
The Yato grinding disc for metal is a bonded grinding disc for heavy-duty use, for rough grinding of steel and structural steels. The disc is optimised for angle grinders and removes material in a controlled way, so levelling weld seams, removing burrs and shaping edges are quick to do.
Thanks to the bond system and selected aluminium oxide grain combinations, the cutting rate stays consistent even in long continuous grinding. The wear-distributing construction reduces “burning” and extends its life when the work is done at the right angle and pressure. The disc is balanced to minimise vibration, which makes the tool easier to control and reduces strain on the user.
The product comes in variants with different thicknesses and load profiles depending on the grinding task. By choosing the right variant, you get the optimal combination of removal rate, stiffness and surface quality control without having to change your working method.
Intended use:
-
Levelling and shaping weld seams: The disc is designed to remove welding slag and level the seam to the surrounding material. With the right working angle and an even feed, you get a uniform surface that reduces the need for later grinding or finishing steps before painting or coating. This speeds up the work process, especially in series production and maintenance.
-
Chamfering edges and removing burrs: Cutting processes leave burrs and sharp edges. The durable construction of the grinding disc allows quick chamfering and cleaning up of edges without excessive heat build-up. This improves the handling and safety of the parts and the quality of the following work steps.
-
Keying the surface before coating: An even roughness is important for the adhesion of coatings and adhesives. The disc produces a controlled microstructure that promotes the adhesion of primer and other surface treatments. This is useful, for example, for structural steel parts and in mechanical engineering, where repeatable preparation is required.
-
Maintenance and repair work: Removing corrosion and wear often needs effective but controlled material removal. The grinding disc works both in the field and in the repair shop, where support surfaces are cleaned, damaged areas opened up for welding and repair pieces shaped to fit.

Yato grinding disc for metal: instructions for use:
-
Fitting: Disconnect the machine from the power supply. Check the position of the guard. Fit the disc according to the manufacturer’s instructions and check that it turns freely.
-
Test run: Start without load; stop if there is vibration or abnormal noise.
-
Sanding: Hold the disc at a shallow angle and use even, light to moderate pressure. Do not stay in one spot for long.
-
Breaks: Stop regularly, remove loose material and check the condition of the disc. Replace it if wear is uneven or the edge is damaged.
-
Maintenance: Store discs in a dry place on a flat surface; avoid impacts and crushing.
Warnings:
-
Always wear safety glasses/a visor, a respirator, protective gloves and, if necessary, ear defenders.
-
Do not exceed the maximum speed marked on the disc.
-
Do not use a damaged or dropped disc.
-
Keep flammable materials away from the work area; sparks come from the workpiece.
-
Make sure the guard is correctly fitted and intact.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Is the disc suitable for stainless steel?
This model is optimised for general steel. For stainless steel, a disc specifically marked for stainless steel is recommended to prevent contamination.
Why does the disc burn the surface?
Too much pressure or the wrong angle raises the heat. Reduce the pressure, keep the disc moving more and let the disc do the work.
When should the disc be replaced?
When the diameter has worn close to the safety limit, the edge has chipped or vibration increases. Replacing it improves safety and the finish.
Can I use the same disc for cutting?
No. Use a cutting disc designed for cutting; the grinding disc is made for side grinding.
