Description
Yato cordless impact driver 18V (YT-82798) is an impact driver with a brushless motor and a maximum torque of 230 Nm. The set includes a 4 Ah Li-Ion battery, a fast charger and a carry case. The driver belongs to the Yato 18 V battery system, in which the same battery fits the other tools in the range.
The body is only 90 mmlong, so the driver fits into tight spots and the screw can be driven straight into the material. The bit holder is a 1/4″ (6.35 mm) hex fitting with a quick lock that takes grooved impact bits and adapters about 50 mm long. The tangential impact mechanism stops the bit slipping out of the screw head.
The control panel lets you choose four speed settings (0–1200 / 0–1900 / 0–2500 / 0–3200 min⁻¹) and three screwdriving modes: wood, thin sheet metal and thick sheet metal. When turning anticlockwise, an intermittent release modeis available, which loosens a tight screw or nut with short turns. The impact rate is 3000 min⁻¹.
The driver has a spindle brake, a direction-of-rotation switch, an LED work light and a battery charge level indicator. Thermal protection prevents the motor from overloading. The tool weighs 1.0 kg, protection class III and IP rating IPX0. The sound pressure level is 99 dB(A) and vibration 12.9 m/s², so ear defenders are necessary.
Uses and suitability:
The impact driver is intended for driving and removing screws, bolts and nuts with 1/4″ hex-shank impact bits and socket adapters. Thanks to the impact mechanism, the torque is many times that of an ordinary cordless drill without the driver twisting your wrist.
- Timber construction: Driving long wood screws, decking screws and structural screws without pre-drilling in wood mode; 230 Nm is enough for 8 mm structural screws.
- Sheet metal and metal work: Driving self-drilling sheet metal screws in the thin and thick sheet metal modes, in which the driver limits the speed and prevents the thread from stripping.
- Furniture installation and plasterboard work: The short 90 mm body fits between cabinets and studs; the lowest speed setting suits small screws.
- Bolted joints: Tightening and loosening nuts and bolts with a socket adapter on the 1/4″ hex drive; the intermittent release mode opens rusted joints in a controlled way.
The same Yato 18 V battery system includes, among others, the Yato cordless impact drill 18V 75Nm + 3 AH battery and charger set, Yato cordless impact wrench 18V 850Nm, body only and Yato battery charger 18V 2.4-4.5A smart fast charger. The Yato cordless impact driver 18V suits users who do not yet have a Yato 18 V battery; the body alone is available under code YT-82799.

Instructions for using the Yato cordless impact driver 18V:
Charging: Push the battery into the charger and plug the charger into a socket. The green LED flashes while charging and stays lit when the battery is full (about 2 h). Unplug the charger and release the battery from the charger with the latch button.
Fitting the bit: Remove the battery. Pull the chuck ring forward, push a grooved 1/4″ impact bit about 50 mm long into the chuck and release the ring. Pull the bit to make sure it is locked. Drill bits must not be used because of the impact mechanism.
Screwdriving: Select the direction of rotation with the switch and the speed setting or screwdriving mode on the control panel. Place the bit in the screw head before starting and hold the driver with both hands. Start at low speed and increase the speed by pressing the trigger further. When the impact mechanism starts to hammer, the joint is tight: release the trigger.
Loosening: Switch the direction of rotation to anticlockwise and, if needed, select the intermittent mode (LED 4), in which each press of the trigger turns the spindle briefly. On threaded joints, turn the first few turns by hand.
Maintenance: Remove the battery and clean the housing, ventilation openings and switches with compressed air (max. 0.3 MPa), a brush or a dry cloth. Store the battery at 0–30 °C at about 70% charge and charge it at least once a year.
Warnings:
- Read the instruction manual before use. Wear safety glasses, ear defenders and protective gloves.
- Remove the battery before changing the bit, making adjustments or servicing.
- Hold the driver by the insulated handles: the screw may hit hidden electrical cables.
- Use only bits intended for impact use; ordinary bits and drill bits can break.
- Do not keep tightening once the impacts have started: fasteners and threads can break.
- The surface of the body must not exceed 60 °C. Take breaks because of vibration exposure.
- Charge the battery only with a Yato 18 V charger, in a dry place and under adult supervision. Do not short-circuit the battery terminals and do not use a damaged battery.
- Not for use by children. Not water-protected (IPX0): do not use in rain.
