Description

The Yato YT-2900 is a compactly packed 7-piece pipe threading set designed for making and repairing external threads on steel and metal pipes on sites, in maintenance work and in installations. At the heart of the set is a manual ratchet die stock that allows threading even in tight spaces without turning the pipe. The ratchet mechanism speeds up work and reduces strain on the hands.

Six interchangeable threading heads are included in the common nominal sizes 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″ and 1-1/4″. These cover the most common pipe size classes in HVAC, heating and industrial pipework. The heads are made of highly wear-resistant 9Cr2 tool steel, which keeps the geometry of the cutting edge and produces a clean thread profile when used correctly.

The die stock handle has a grippy, padded surface (sponge rubber), which improves ergonomics and control. The direction selector (forward/reverse) makes ratchet use easier, and the steel construction of the body ensures stiffness during threading. The whole set is supplied in a plastic case with its own place for each head for quick selection and safe storage.

The Yato YT-2900 is particularly suitable where reliable manual threading is needed without power tools: renovation jobs, sites without electricity, maintenance work and one-off threading jobs. The modular set and clear size markings make choosing the right head quick, which makes workflows more efficient.

Intended use:

  • HVAC and heating installations:
The pipe threading set is suitable for making external threads on water supply, heating and cooling pipes when you need a thread to BSP or an equivalent standard for joints. The ratchet mechanism lets you work close to walls and corners, where a full turn is not possible. The range of head sizes (¼”–1¼”) covers common fitting sizes, so the same set serves on many jobs without accessories.

  • Industrial servicing and maintenance tasks:
For the needs of engineering workshops, production plants and property maintenance, threads can be made on site without removing the pipes. This shortens downtime and reduces the need to replace parts. The 9Cr2 heads withstand repeated use and produce a consistent thread profile, which improves the tightness of joints together with a suitable sealant.

  • Renovation and refurbishment:
When repairing old pipelines, you often have to make new threads or clean up damaged ones. A manual ratchet die stock is particularly useful then, as space is limited and the work is often done overhead or in cramped enclosures. The carrying case of the set makes it easier to move the tool from one job to another.

  • Installation and prototype work in the workshop:
Small batches and one-off joints can be done without separate machines. The clear size markings on the heads reduce the risk of choosing the wrong one and speed up getting started. The ratchet function helps keep a constant speed and force, which gives consistent thread quality in repeated use.

Package contents:

  • Manual ratchet die stock body with direction selector

  • Threading heads: 1/4″ (6.3 mm), 3/8″ (9.5–10 mm), 1/2″ (12.7 mm), 3/4″ (19.0 mm), 1″ (25.0 mm), 1-1/4″ (32.0 mm)

  • Plastic carrying and storage case

Features:

  • Ratchet mechanism: Allows threading in tight spots without a full turn and speeds up work.

  • Changing the working direction: The forward/reverse selector makes it easier to return the die and change direction during work.

  • Six interchangeable heads (¼”–1¼”): Cover the most common pipe sizes in HVAC and industrial applications, reducing the need for separate tools.

  • Cutting head material 9Cr2: High wear resistance and good edge retention for producing a clean thread profile.

  • Body material steel: Gives stiffness and power transmission for consistent threading.

  • Padded handle (sponge): Improves grip and comfort during long use.

  • Set size: 7 pieces, clear layout and markings for quick size selection.

  • Carrying case: The weather- and impact-resistant plastic case protects the parts and makes transport and storage easier.

Yato pipe threading set 7-piece instructions for use:

  1. Preparation: Clean the end of the pipe, chamfer the mouth lightly and make sure the size is right for the fitting. Clamp the pipe firmly in a vice.

  2. Lubrication: Apply thread cutting oil or paste to the end of the pipe and the cutting surfaces of the threading head. Sufficient lubrication improves surface quality and extends the life of the dies.

  3. Fitting the head: Choose the correct threading head (¼”–1¼”) and lock it in the body according to the instructions. Make sure the head is fully seated and the lock clicks into place.

  4. Threading: Place the head square to the pipe. Use the ratchet in the forward direction. Press lightly and turn evenly; add lubrication as needed. Every few turns, make a reverse turn of half a turn to break the chip.

  5. Finishing: When the nominal length has been reached, switch the direction selector to reverse and remove the tool. Clean the chips off the thread and, if necessary, add sealant or tape before assembling the joint.

  6. Maintenance: Clean dirt and chips off the heads after use. Dry and oil lightly to prevent corrosion. Store the parts in their own places in the case. Check the locks and ratchet mechanism regularly; replace worn heads.

Warnings:

  • Always use appropriate personal protective equipment: safety glasses, gloves and ear defenders if necessary.

  • Make sure the pipe is firmly clamped before threading to avoid slipping and the risk of injury.

  • Do not use damaged or worn threading heads; they can cause poor-quality threading or break under load.

  • Do not exceed the tool’s mechanical capacity; use the right size and sufficient lubrication.

  • Keep the tool out of the reach of children.

  • Use only suitable lubricants and follow the safety instructions for the work environment.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ):

Which thread standard do the heads suit?
The heads are sized in inch sizes (¼”–1¼”), which are commonly used in pipe connections. Check the thread standard required for the installation (e.g. BSPT/BSPP) before starting work.

Can the set be used on stainless steel?
It can be used with the right lubrication and moderate feeds, but the cutting stress is higher. Watch the condition of the dies and add lubrication often.

Do I need thread cutting oil?
Yes. Lubrication reduces friction and improves chip formation, which extends the life of the dies and produces a clean thread profile.

Can threads be made on an installed pipe?
Yes, the ratchet mechanism allows threading on site without removing the pipe, as long as the pipe is supported and clamped safely.

How do I identify the right head size?
The size markings are engraved on the body of the head. Choose the size to match the fitting; test the fit before final threading.

Recycling instructions:

  • Packaging: Cardboard and paper materials to cardboard collection. Plastic protective films and bags to plastic collection according to local rules.

  • Product and heads: Metal parts (steel, 9Cr2) to metal collection at the end of their life.

  • Carrying case: Plastic case to plastic collection or energy waste according to local waste management rules.

  • Remove oils and greases for separate collection (hazardous waste) before recycling the metal parts.
