Description
General description of the product and its uses:
Blue Dolphin joining tape is a clear special tape designed for professional use, developed especially for reliably joining and sealing construction films made of polyethylene (PE). Its main task is to ensure the air and vapour tightness of structures by creating durable seams between different construction plastics. The transparent construction of the tape makes the seams inconspicuous, which is often a desired feature in the finished result.
This joining tape stands out thanks to its excellent durability properties. It is resistant to UV radiation, which means it tolerates the effect of sunlight during the construction phase without significantly losing its adhesion or becoming brittle. The tape is also moisture resistant, which is a critical feature in the changing conditions of construction sites and ensures the tightness of the seam even in damp environments. These properties make it a reliable choice for long-lasting installations.
The adhesive of the tape is optimised to adhere aggressively to PE films in particular, which are commonly used in construction as vapour barriers, moisture protection and various protective layers. Strong adhesion ensures that seams stay closed even under stress, preventing uncontrolled air leaks and the transfer of moisture into structures. The 48 mm width gives a sufficient bonding area for a secure joint in most film applications.
Intended use:
Blue Dolphin clear joining tape is a versatile solution for various sealing needs in construction, focusing especially on PE materials.
- Sealing vapour barrier films: The main use of the product is sealing the overlap joints of polyethylene vapour barriers. An airtight vapour barrier is an essential part of energy-efficient and moisture-safe construction. This tape ensures that the seams between films are tight, preventing warm, humid indoor air from getting into structures, where it could cause moisture damage.
- Joining and repairing construction plastics: Suitable for joining various PE-based protective plastics and construction fabrics. On site, the tape can be used to build various protective walls, join floor protection or patch torn construction plastics quickly and durably. Its UV and moisture resistance also makes it suitable for temporary outdoor protection.
- Sealing penetrations: Used for sealing films around pipes and other penetrations. The tape helps ensure a tight joint at points where building services pass through the vapour barrier or another protective film. The flexible tape conforms to shapes and creates a tight collar around the penetration.
Package contents:
1 roll of Blue Dolphin joining tape clear 48 mm x 20 m for PE films UV
Features:
- Specialised adhesion: Designed to adhere very strongly to polyethylene (PE) surfaces, which are traditionally hard to bond.
- UV resistance: Withstands exposure to sunlight during the construction project without becoming brittle.
- Moisture resistance: Keeps its adhesion and tightness even in damp conditions.
- Transparency: The clear tape allows inconspicuous seams and visual inspection of the quality of the joint.
- Airtightness: When correctly applied, forms a layer impermeable to air and vapour, which is critical for energy efficiency.
Technical specifications:
- Width: 48 mm
- Length: 20 m
- Colour: Clear (transparent)
- Suitable material: Especially PE films (polyethylene)
- Properties: UV resistant, moisture resistant
Instructions for use:
Follow these instructions when applying the tape to achieve the best result and tightness:
First make sure the surfaces to be joined (PE films) are completely clean, dry and dust-free. Dirt, grease or moisture significantly weaken the adhesion of the adhesive. If the surfaces are dirty, clean them with a suitable cleaner and let them dry completely.
Overlap the films sufficiently (usually at least 10–15 cm is recommended; check the material manufacturer’s instructions). Apply the tape to the centre of the seam so that it covers the edges of both films evenly. Press the tape firmly along its whole length and width. The adhesive needs pressure to activate, so use a rubber roller or spatula, for example, to ensure full contact with the surface and to remove any air bubbles under the tape.
Try to do the taping in normal temperature conditions (usually above +5°C). In very cold conditions the initial tack of the adhesive may be weaker.
Warnings:
This tape is intended for sealing and joining films and is not suitable as a load-bearing structure or for fixing heavy loads. Always check compatibility with plastics other than PE by doing a test bond. Although the tape is UV resistant, it is intended mainly for protection during construction or for installations that stay inside structures, and it is not recommended to leave it permanently exposed to direct sunlight for years without covering.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Q: Can this tape be used outdoors?
A: Yes, the tape is UV and moisture resistant, so it is suitable for outdoor use, for example for protection during construction. In permanent installations, however, it is advisable to cover the tape with the final structure.
Q: Does the tape adhere to materials other than PE plastic?
A: The tape is optimised specifically for polyethylene (PE). It can also adhere to other smooth, clean surfaces, such as metals or other plastics, but adhesion should always be checked with a test bond before actual use.
Q: Why does vapour barrier tape need to be UV resistant if it stays inside the structure?
A: During the construction phase, vapour barriers can be exposed to sunlight for weeks or months before they are covered with the interior lining (e.g. plasterboard). UV resistance ensures that the tape does not become brittle or come loose during this time.
Recycling instructions:
Used tape is usually mixed waste, as it contains adhesives and is often stuck to other materials. The cardboard core of the tape can be recycled in cardboard collection. Always check local waste management regulations.
