Description
Blue Dolphin packing tape PP is a durable, cost-effective solution made of polypropylene film (PP) for professional packing and box sealing. The core of the tape is hot melt adhesive, a synthetic rubber-based adhesive known for its excellent fast initial adhesion and strong hold. The tape is excellent for reliably sealing light and medium-sized cardboard and paperboard packages.
This brown packing tape is 48 mm wide and 66 metres long, giving a good roll length for efficient continuous use. Although the exact total thickness of the tape can vary, PP hot melt tapes typically offer good tensile strength and sufficient elongation. The polypropylene backing gives the tape good tear strength both lengthwise and crosswise, which is essential for safety during transport.
Thanks to its hot melt adhesive, this tape is particularly well suited to fast packing lines, including semi-automatic and automatic taping machines, where fast, secure fixing is key to production efficiency. It adheres effectively to clean cardboard boxes and even recycled corrugated board (testliner), ensuring the integrity of the package in storage and transport.
Intended use:
- E-commerce and logistics shipments: The product is excellent for sealing all kinds of e-commerce shipping packages where fast, reliable taping is needed. The fast adhesion of this tape (hot melt adhesive) guarantees that packing lines stay efficient and products to be shipped can be sealed effortlessly. It is best suited for light and medium-sized packages, ensuring their safe transport in the logistics chain. It adheres well to most cardboard and paperboard surfaces.
- Warehousing and internal logistics: The tape is used in daily warehouse operations for sealing and marking boxes for internal logistics needs. In warehouses, the strong hold of the tape is important even in long-term storage, as long as conditions are normal. The tape is quick to use, which makes warehouse workflows more efficient when sealing and moving packages. It is suitable both for manual use with a tape dispenser and for automatic taping machines.
- Offices and archiving: It is used in offices for mailing documents and sealing archive boxes. Brown PP tape is a general-purpose aid in offices when you need a quick, neat way to close mailing boxes or seal archive boxes for long-term storage. Its ease of use and reliability make it a practical choice for more occasional packing needs too.

Blue Dolphin packing tape PP instructions for use:
Using Blue Dolphin PP hot melt packing tape is straightforward and efficient, suitable both for manual use and taping machines. To ensure optimal adhesion, it is important that the surface to be taped is clean, dry and dust-free. Hot melt adhesive guarantees very fast adhesion on contact, but for the best result make sure you press the tape down tightly over its whole surface.
For manual use, an ergonomic hand-held tape dispenser is recommended for applying the tape. This speeds up work, ensures even application and makes cutting the tape easier. When sealing a cardboard box, make sure the tape runs over the centre seam of the box so that there is enough overlap on the sides of the box (e.g. 5–7 cm). Press the tape flat with your hand or the roller of the tape dispenser.
In automatic or semi-automatic taping machines, the tape must be set up correctly according to the machine’s instructions. Hot melt adhesive is ideal for these machines because it adheres quickly. Use and store the tape in normal warehouse conditions (usually approx. +18°C – +25°C). Avoid long exposure to direct sunlight or very cold/damp conditions before use.
Warnings:
- Cleanliness of the surface: Make sure the surface to be taped is free of grease, dust and moisture. A dirty surface considerably weakens the adhesion of the hot melt adhesive and the hold of the tape.
- Temperature conditions: The properties of hot melt adhesive are at their best at normal room temperatures. Although the tape withstands temperature changes during transport, the final hold of the adhesive can weaken significantly at very cold storage or use temperatures (e.g. below +5°C). For more demanding conditions, tapes with solvent adhesive may be advisable.
- Safe use: When using a tape dispenser, be careful with the sharp cutting blade. Keep the tape out of the reach of children.
- Avoid UV radiation: Although PP film generally withstands ageing well, long exposure to direct sunlight and UV radiation can weaken the performance of the tape over time. Store the tapes away from direct sunshine.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
What is Blue Dolphin packing tape PP with hot melt adhesive best suited for?
It is best suited for sealing light and medium-sized cardboard boxes, especially where very fast initial adhesion and an efficient packing process are needed. Hot melt adhesive is an ideal solution both for manual use with a tape dispenser and for automatic taping machines in warehouses and logistics centres.
What is the difference between packing tape with hot melt and acrylic adhesive?
Hot melt is a synthetic rubber-based adhesive that gives very fast, strong immediate adhesion (initial tack). It is very well suited to fast packing lines and normal warehouse conditions. Acrylic adhesive is often water-based and solvent-free, and its final hold develops a little more slowly, but it is usually more resistant to UV radiation and ageing, which makes it a good choice for long-term storage or when environmental friendliness is a priority.
Can packing tape be left on a cardboard box for recycling?
Yes, generally packing tape does not need to be removed from a cardboard box when it is sorted for cardboard recycling. Cardboard recycling plants can separate the tape film and adhesive from the cardboard fibres. Packing tape can therefore be left on the box when it is sorted for cardboard collection.
Recycling instructions:
The product itself (used tape): Packing tape consists mainly of polypropylene (PP) and hot melt adhesive. As the tape is often hard to separate from the packages it was used on, it can be left attached to cardboard packaging. If a lot of tape has been used and it is separate from the package itself (e.g. large amounts of tape offcuts), it is usually sorted as mixed waste or energy waste, unlike packaging plastic.
Packaging: The tape core is often cardboard and is sorted for cardboard collection. If the product is in retail packaging, for example in plastic film, this is sorted for plastic packaging collection (PP plastic 05, if marked) or as mixed waste. Always check local sorting instructions.
