Description
The Edma safety knife for cardboard and plastic is a hand tool for opening packaging, with a fixed double blade inside a plastic body. The blade is recessed in a protected slot, so the cutting edge does not come into contact with the hand or the work surface at any stage of the work.
The tool has no replaceable blade. This eliminates cut injuries from changing blades and prevents loose blades from ending up among packages or products. When the blade is worn, the whole tool is replaced. The design has no screws, springs or slide, so it needs no maintenance or adjustment.
The double blade cuts in both pulling directions, so the tool works the same way for right- and left-handed users and you do not need to change your grip when moving to another side of the box. A material guide in the body feeds tape, film or cardboard to the blade and keeps the cutting angle constant throughout the stroke.
The tool weighs 90 g, so the strain on the wrist stays low during repetitive opening work. A protective design that limits the cutting depth keeps the blade tip so close to the surface that the box’s top board and tape are cut but the contents remain untouched. The tool is intended for cardboard, tape, shrink wrap and pallet hoods.
Intended use and suitability:
The safety knife is intended for opening packaging materials in warehouse, terminal, production and packing work.
- Opening cardboard boxes: the box’s sealing tape and top board are cut in one stroke without the blade reaching the contents of the box.
- Shrink wrap and pallet hoods: the tip is slipped under the tensioned film and the film is split by pulling; the double blade prevents snagging as the film tightens.
- Strapping and packing tapes: plastic strapping and tape are cut with a short stroke in the protected slot.
- Repetitive opening work: the 90 gram weight and maintenance-free design suit a workstation where large numbers of shipments are opened during a shift.
Package contents:
- 1 pc safety knife, fixed double blade
Features:
- Fixed double blade: the blade cannot be removed or replaced, so no loose blades end up among packages.
- Protected blade slot: the cutting edge is recessed in the body, so skin contact with the blade is prevented in normal use.
- Two-way cutting: the same grip works when pulling in both directions and with both the right and left hand.
- Material guide: guides tape or film to the blade and keeps the cutting angle constant.
- Weight 90 g: the light body reduces strain on the wrist in repetitive work.
- Maintenance-free: no screws, springs or sliding mechanism; cleaning is all the upkeep it needs.

Edma safety knife for cardboard and plastic instructions for use:
Opening a box: Place the guide end of the tool on the sealing tape so that the tape sits in the blade slot. Pull the tool evenly along the seam. Keep your other hand outside the line of the stroke.
Cutting film: Push the tip under the tensioned film and pull along the film. The tensioned film splits by itself as the blade advances, so no force is needed.
Cleaning: Wipe tape adhesive and dust off the body with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the tool in solvent.
Replacement: When the cutting performance has dropped so that the stroke needs clearly more force, the tool is taken out of use and replaced with a new one. The blade is not removed or sharpened.
Warnings:
- Do not put your fingers in the blade slot or try to clean the slot with a finger; use a brush or a stick.
- Do not take the body apart or try to remove the blade: the design is fixed, and taking it apart exposes the cutting edge.
- Use the tool only on cardboard, paperboard, tape and plastic films; other materials blunt the blade and increase the risk of slipping.
- Do not use the tool as a lever or screwdriver; the plastic body will break.
- Always pull away from yourself or sideways and keep your other hand outside the line of the stroke.
- Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Can the blade of the Edma safety knife for cardboard and plastic be replaced? No. The double blade is fixed. When the blade is worn, the whole tool is replaced with a new one.
Does the tool damage the contents of the box? The protective design that limits the cutting depth keeps the blade tip at the level of the top board, so the contents normally remain untouched. With a thin box it is still best to cut along the seam.
Is the tool suitable for left-handed users? Yes. The double blade cuts in both pulling directions, so there is no need to turn your grip or the tool.
What materials can the tool cut? Cardboard, paperboard, packing tape, shrink wrap and pallet hoods. It is not suitable for leather, rubber, metal or plasterboard.
Does the tool need maintenance? No. The design has no moving parts; wiping tape adhesive off the body is enough.
Recycling instructions:
A tool taken out of use contains a fixed metal blade in a plastic body, and the blade cannot be removed for sorting. Take the tool to municipal mixed waste or to the mixed metal and plastic fraction at a waste station according to local instructions. Cardboard and plastic packaging are sorted into their own collections.
