Description
This manual Procat tile cutter is designed for straight cutting of small and medium-sized ceramic tiles. The frame and mechanism of the cutter allow it to work tiles with a maximum width of 300 mm. This capacity covers the most common standard-size wall and floor tiles used, for example, for kitchen splashbacks, in bathrooms and in utility rooms. The cutter is sized to handle tiles with a material thickness of up to 10 mm.
The key functional part of the cutter is its cutting wheel. The cutter is fitted with a 15 mm diameter hardened tungsten carbide wheel. As a material, tungsten carbide is extremely hard and wear-resistant, which is essential for scoring the hard glaze of a ceramic tile effectively. A sharp, durable wheel ensures a clean score line, which is a prerequisite for a neat break. The wheel is replaceable, which extends the life of the cutter in professional use, as the wheel can be renewed when it wears.
The cutter works on the traditional score-and-snap principle. The user places the tile on the cutter’s base, scores the surface of the tile along its full length with the wheel by moving the handle along the guide rail, and finally snaps the tile by pressing on the score line with the breaking mechanism on the handle. This manual operation needs no electricity, which makes the cutter easy to move and ready to use in different working conditions without a power source.
Intended use:
This product is intended for working ceramic materials within the specified size limits. It is suitable for tiling work in both new construction and renovation.
- Cutting ceramic wall and floor tiles: The cutter is optimised for cutting standard ceramic tiles such as wall tiles and clinker tiles. The cutter’s maximum width of 300 mm and maximum thickness of 10 mm define its range of use. It is intended for making straight cuts from edge to edge of the tile. The cutter can cut glazed and unglazed ceramic surfaces. The precise guide rail and bearing-mounted cutting head help the user make straight scores repeatably.
Package contents:
The package contains the following parts:
- 1 pcs Procat tile cutter (frame and guide mechanism).
- 1 pcs hardened tungsten carbide wheel 15 mm (fitted to the cutter).
Features:
The features of the cutter are designed to support efficient work with smaller tile sizes.
- 300 mm cutting capacity: The physical size of the cutter and the length of the guide rail allow tiles up to 30 cm wide to be handled.
- 10 mm cutting thickness: The mechanism and wheel are sized to snap tiles up to 1 cm thick reliably.
- Hardened tungsten carbide wheel: The 15 mm diameter wheel is made of an extremely hard material that withstands the abrasive effect of the ceramic surface and guarantees a precise score.
- Replaceable wheel: A worn wheel can be replaced with a new one, which maintains cutting accuracy and reduces material waste in the long term.
Technical specifications:
Technical specifications of the product:
- Max. cutting length: 300 mm.
- Max. cutting thickness: 10 mm.
- Wheel material: Hardened tungsten carbide.
- Wheel diameter: 15 mm.
- Operating principle: Manual (score and snap).
Instructions for use:
Cutting a tile:
- Measure and mark the required cutting point on the tile with a pen.
- Place the tile cutter on a level, firm base.
- Place the tile on the cutter’s base so that the marked cutting line is exactly aligned with the centre line of the cutter and the path of the wheel. Make sure the tile is firmly supported against the stop.
- Push the cutting handle to the front edge of the tile. Press the handle lightly down so that the wheel touches the surface of the tile, and pull or push the handle (depending on the model) along the full length of the tile in one even, continuous movement. The aim is to make a single, clear score in the tile glaze. Avoid a sawing motion or excessive force.
- Once the score is made, move the cutting head to the end of the tile so that the breaking mechanism (pressure foot) is over the tile.
- Press the handle down calmly but firmly. This applies pressure on both sides of the score and snaps the tile along it.
Maintenance: Clean tile dust and fragments off the cutter regularly. Check the condition of the wheel regularly. If the score becomes uneven or the tile does not snap cleanly, the wheel is probably worn and should be replaced. Lubricate the guide rails with light machine oil when needed to ensure smooth movement.
Warnings:
Take care when working with the tile cutter.
- Sharp edges: The cut edge of a tile is extremely sharp. Handle cut tiles carefully and wear protective gloves to avoid cuts.
- Eye protection: Always wear safety glasses when cutting tiles. Small, sharp fragments can come off the tile when it is snapped and can injure your eyes.
- Risk of crushing: Keep fingers and hands away from the cutting mechanism and the breaking foot during use to avoid crush injuries.
- Handling the wheel: The tungsten carbide wheel is sharp. Handle it carefully when changing it.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Answers to common questions about this tile cutter.
- Can this cutter cut porcelain (porcellanato) tiles?
The cutter is designed mainly for standard ceramic tiles up to 10 mm thick. Cutting very hard or thick porcelain tiles can be difficult and wears the wheel faster. Always check the tile manufacturer’s recommendations on the cutting method. - How do I know when the wheel needs replacing?
The wheel needs replacing when it no longer makes a clean, continuous score in the tile surface with light pressure, or if the tile starts to break unevenly when snapped. - Can it cut mosaic tiles?
The cutter is intended for cutting larger single tiles. Cutting small mosaic pieces can be difficult with this cutter because of how the tile is supported and aligned.
Recycling instructions:
At the end of its life, the product must be disposed of properly. Take the frame and metal parts of the tile cutter to metal recycling. Recycle any plastic parts, such as handle covers, as plastic waste in line with local waste management regulations.
