Description
Procat eyelets are brass two-part eyelets (eyelets) for making a reinforced fixing hole in tarpaulins, covers and protective sheets. The ring and washer are pressed through the material, so the edges of the hole are held inside the metal and do not tear from the pull of a rope, bungee cord or hook. Available in several hole sizes.
The main use of eyelets is fixing points in tarpaulins and covers: replacing a torn or missing eyelet, adding extra eyelets to the edge of a tarpaulin and fitting fixing holes to a tarpaulin or protective sheet cut to size. The same eyelet suits load covers, timber and firewood covers, the edges of tents and canopies, and advertising and construction banners.
Brass does not rust, so the eyelet withstands rain, snow and salty air outdoors without the hole staining or weakening. A metal eyelet spreads the pull over a wider area than a plain hole in the tarpaulin, which is decisive under wind load and when tensioning the tarpaulin with bungee cords or rope.
The eyelets are spare eyelets (Spare eyelets) suitable for fitting with eyelet tools: the hole for the eyelet is punched or cut in the material, the ring is placed in the anvil, the washer on top, and the joint is pressed with a setting tool or eyelet pliers. Suitable fixing rope is, for example, Procat polyester rope 5 mm x 50 m and for tensioning Procat rope ratchet set 68 kg.
Procat eyelets: intended use and suitability:
The eyelets are intended for reinforcing fixing holes in tarpaulins, covers and other durable fabrics and films.
- Repairing tarpaulins: In place of a detached or torn eyelet, a new eyelet is fitted at an intact spot next to the hem; a larger eyelet size covers the edges of the old tear.
- Extra fixing points: More eyelets are added at closer spacing along the edge of the tarpaulin, so the wind load is spread over more fixings and a single point does not tear.
- Covers cut to size: Fixing holes are made where you want in load, firewood and machine covers and in the side walls of canopies.
- Banners and advertising fabrics: Eyelets fitted at the corners and edges allow fixing to a fence or frame with cable ties, bungee cords or rope.
- Smaller sizes: The smallest eyelet size suits thin protective fabrics, bags, curtains and lace holes in workwear.

Procat eyelets instructions for use:
1. Mark the position of the eyelet at least 2–3 cm from the edge of the tarpaulin, preferably next to the reinforced hem.
2. Make a hole with a hole punch or the cutter of an eyelet tool; the hole must be the size of the collar of the eyelet, not larger.
3. Place the ring in the anvil with the collar facing up, thread the material over the collar and place the washer on top.
4. Press the joint with the setting tool by striking it with a hammer, or with eyelet pliers, until the collar has turned evenly over the washer and the eyelet does not turn.
5. Check that the material is pressed between the rings all the way round; a loose joint tears under load.
Warnings:
- Wear safety glasses when fitting by striking; metal chips and loose parts can fly off.
- Place the eyelet far enough from the edge; an eyelet fitted too close tears under wind load.
- A pressed eyelet is permanent; removing it damages the material.
- Small parts: keep away from children, choking hazard.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
What eyelet size suits a tarpaulin? Larger hole sizes are used for rope and hook fixings in tarpaulins and covers; the smallest size is for thin fabrics and cords. Choose the size to suit the thickness of the fixing (rope, bungee cord, hook).
Can Procat eyelets be fitted without a separate tool? The joint needs pressing; fitting requires a setting tool and anvil or eyelet pliers. The eyelets fit the tools of eyelet sets.
Do the eyelets rust outdoors? No; a brass-plated eyelet does not rust, so the eyelets are suitable for year-round outdoor use and salty air.
How do I repair a torn eyelet in a tarpaulin? Cut the old eyelet out, move to an intact spot next to the hem or reinforce the spot with a tarpaulin patch, and fit a new eyelet according to the instructions.
Recycling instructions:
Procat eyelets are supplied in a resealable plastic bag; the packaging is sorted for plastic and cardboard collection. Brass eyelets taken out of use are sorted for metal collection, and when a tarpaulin is recycled the eyelets are removed before sorting the plastic.
