Description
This four-piece Procat screw extractor set is designed to solve problem situations where the screw head is damaged or rounded, or the screw is stuck in the material so that it cannot be undone with ordinary tools. The set contains special tools that allow such screws to be removed efficiently. The tools are compatible with ordinary drills and cordless screwdrivers.
The key technical solution of the set is the bits’ double-ended design, which combines two work steps in one tool. One end of each bit has a cutting drill head used to prepare the head of the damaged screw. The opposite end of the bit has a tapered reverse thread. When the bit is turned round in the chuck after the drilling stage, the reverse-thread end bites into the drilled hole when turned anticlockwise. This mechanism grips the screw and forces it to turn out regardless of the original condition of the head.
The pack contains four extractor tools of different sizes, which cover the most common screw sizes from small to medium. This makes the set a versatile solution for maintenance, repair and installation work where you meet old, rusty or overtightened fasteners whose heads have failed.
Intended use:
The Procat screw extractor set is intended for demanding jobs where removing fasteners is blocked.
- Removing damaged heads: Designed especially for situations where a screwdriver or screwdriver bit no longer grips the screw head (e.g. a “stripped” cross-head, Torx or hex socket head). The tool creates a new gripping surface for the reverse thread.
- Stuck and painted screws: Suitable for undoing rusty, painted-over or overtightened screws where using a normal tool could break the head for good. The reverse-thread technique allows torque to be transferred deeper into the screw head.
Package contents:
The product pack contains the following parts:
- 4 pcs double-ended screw extractor bits in different sizes.
- Storage case for the bits.
Features:
The bits in the set are designed for fast, straightforward removal of problem screws.
- Dual-function design: Both the drill head and the extraction head (reverse thread) are integrated in the same bit body. This speeds up work, as there is no need to look for separate drill bits.
- Reverse-thread mechanism: The tapered left-hand thread is designed to bite into the metal and tighten in the hole when the machine is turned in the loosening direction.
- Four different sizes: The set includes sizes suitable for most ordinary screw diameters.
Technical specifications:
A list of the product’s technical data.
- Number of pieces: 4 pcs.
- Bit type: Double-ended (drill/reverse thread).
- Compatibility: Suitable for use in drills and screwdrivers with reverse rotation and speed control.
Instructions for use:
Step 1: drilling: Choose an extractor bit suitable for the size of the screw. Fit the bit in the drill with the drill head facing out. Place the tip of the bit in the centre of the head of the damaged screw. Carefully drill a shallow, tapered hole in the screw head. Use a low speed and even pressure for working the metal.
Step 2: extraction: Remove the bit from the chuck and turn it round so that the reverse-thread end faces out. Tighten the bit back in the chuck. Place the reverse-thread end in the hole you have just drilled. Start the drill very slowly anticlockwise. Press the bit down while it turns. The reverse thread starts to bite into the hole, and when the grip is sufficient, it starts to turn the damaged screw out.
Warnings:
Follow these safety and usage warnings when working with the product.
- Always wear safety glasses when drilling and extracting metal to protect yourself from chips.
- Make sure the drilled hole is as close to the centre of the screw head as possible. Drilling off-centre can weaken the screw head further.
- Always use low speeds. Too high a speed can overheat the bit, blunt it or damage the reverse thread.
- If the screw is very firmly rusted in place, it is advisable to use penetrating oil and let it work before the operation.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Common questions about using the screw extractor set.
- Does this work on all screw heads?
The set is designed to work with most common metal screws whose heads are damaged. The original head type (e.g. Phillips, Pozidriv, Torx, hex socket) does not matter, as the tool drills a new gripping surface into the head. - What kind of drill should be used?
Using the bits requires a drill or cordless screwdriver with adjustable speed and reverse rotation (the ability to turn anticlockwise). The hammer function of a hammer drill must not be used.
Recycling instructions:
At the end of the product’s life, worn or damaged metal bits must be disposed of through metal recycling. The plastic storage case can be recycled as plastic packaging in line with local waste management instructions.
