Description
Procat joint cord 30 m is a traditional tiling aid designed to ensure that rows of tiles are straight and joints are even. The cord is made of durable nylon, which withstands the moisture of the adhesive and mechanical pulling without snapping. Although modern laser measuring devices and plastic tile spacers have become common, joint cord is still a useful tool, especially where long lines need to be controlled visually or when installing irregular tiles that fixed spacers do not suit.
The product works on a simple principle: the cord is placed between the rows of tiles during installation, where it acts as a physical spacer and line guide. This stops the tiles from sliding against each other before the tile adhesive dries. The nylon material was chosen for its smoothness and durability; it does not readily stick to the adhesive and is easy to remove from the joint after installation without fraying or leaving fibres in the joint.
The 30-metre length is enough to cover even larger wall or floor areas with a continuous line. The cord comes off a roll and is easy to cut to the length needed for the job. The product is suitable for wall tiling as well as floor clinker installations where you want to keep a traditional craft method and ensure the visual continuity of the joints.
Intended use:
- Aligning tile joints: The cord is used primarily to keep horizontal and vertical joints in line during installation. It helps you spot deviations in the straightness of a row immediately, so corrections can be made before the adhesive sets.
- Setting the joint width: Placing the cord between the tiles gives a joint of even width along the whole row. This is useful especially when you want a joint of a certain width without several loose tile spacers.
- Traditional tiling method: Joint cord is an alternative to modern levelling systems on jobs where classic methods are wanted or where an uneven substrate needs a more flexible fit than fixed plastic spacers allow.
Package contents:
- 1 x Procat joint cord (length 30 m)
Features:
- Durable material: Made of high-tensile nylon that does not stretch too much in use.
- Optimal length: 30 metres is enough for several small projects or one larger job.
- Easy to remove: The smooth surface lets you pull the cord out of the joint after the adhesive has dried.
- Versatile: Suitable for different types of tiles.
Technical specifications:
- Length: 30 m.
- Material: Nylon.
- Colour: White.
- Type: Tiling cord.
Instructions for use:
Spread tile adhesive on the wall or floor. Set the first row of tiles in place using a spirit level or laser. Lay the joint cord along the full length of the first row of tiles before installing the next row. Press the next row of tiles into place so that the cord stays between the tiles, setting the position and width of the joint. Repeat for each row. Once the adhesive has dried sufficiently (but before grouting), carefully pull the joint cord out of the joint. Make sure no pieces of cord are left in the joint.
Warnings:
The product is a long cord that can be a strangulation hazard for children; keep out of the reach of children. Do not leave the cord in the joint permanently, as it stops the grout from bonding and weakens the waterproofing or the durability of the joint. Take care not to get the cord too covered in wet adhesive, so that it is easier to remove.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Why would I use cord instead of spacers?
Cord is useful for visualising long lines and in situations where the tiles vary slightly in size (handmade tiles), so a fixed spacer does not give enough room for adjustment.
Can the cord be reused?
Yes, nylon cord can usually be cleaned by wiping it with a damp cloth straight after use and reused if it is intact.
Is the cord left under the tiles?
No, the cord is an installation aid and must be removed before the actual grouting.
Recycling instructions:
Nylon cord can be disposed of as mixed waste (energy waste). Dispose of the packaging materials as cardboard.
