Description
The Procat hole saw guide 4-90 mm is a starting guide attached with a suction cup that holds a hole saw or diamond core bit in place while you start drilling. The guide is placed on the surface being worked, fixed with a lever-operated suction cup, and the bit is inserted into the opening in the middle of the body. The bit is supported by bearing-mounted guide rollers, which prevent the bit from wandering and vibrating until the teeth have bitten into the material.
The guide covers bit diameters of 4–90 mm. Smaller bits are guided between four bearing-mounted rollers in the central opening of the body, and larger bits are guided by turning the backing plate the other way round and removing the guide rollers. So the same guide covers the whole diameter range without separate adapters or replacement parts.
The body is red plastic and has two crossed guide slots and two adjustment knobs, which move the roller pairs to suit the bit diameter. The body also has fixing holes through which the guide can be screwed to the base if needed, when the surface is porous and the suction cup will not grip.
Fixing is based on a lever-operated suction cup: the cup is pressed onto a clean, smooth surface and locked with the lever, so that the vacuum holds the guide in place while drilling. The method is suitable for tile, glass, stone and other smooth surfaces, where the starting point of the bit cannot be marked with a centre drill. The guide is removed by releasing the lever and leaves no fixing marks on the surface.
Intended use and suitability:
The guide is intended to support the start of hole sawing on smooth surfaces where the bit tends to slide away from the marked point.
- Tiling: penetrations in ceramic tiles and wall tiles for taps, pipes and electrical boxes; the suction cup grips the glazed surface and the bit starts exactly at the marked point.
- Glass and mirror: holes made with a diamond core bit, where a wandering bit would scratch the surface.
- Stone and composite: holes in natural stone and composite worktops where the starting point cannot be centre-drilled.
- Board structures: hole sawing in thin boards, where a centre drill does not give the bit enough support.
- Varying bit diameters: one guide covers bits of 4–90 mm, so several guides are not needed on the same site.
Package contents:
- Procat hole saw guide 4-90 mm, with suction cup fixing and bearing-mounted guide rollers
Features:
- Suction cup fixing: the lever-operated suction cup locks the guide onto a smooth surface without screws or clamps.
- Bearing-mounted guide rollers: the rollers keep the bit centred and turn with the bit, so the teeth do not rub against the guide.
- Diameter range 4–90 mm: one guide covers both small and large hole saws.
- Reversible backing plate: turning the plate and removing the rollers opens up the central opening for large bits.
- Adjustable roller pairs: two adjustment knobs move the rollers to suit the bit diameter.
- Fixing holes in the body: allow screw fixing to the base when the suction cup will not grip.
- Plastic body: a light body that does not scratch glazed surfaces.
Technical specifications:
- Bit diameter range: 4–90 mm.
- Guide rollers: 4 pcs, bearing-mounted.
- Roller adjustment: two adjustment knobs, crossed guide slots.
- Use with large bits: the backing plate is turned the other way round and the guide rollers are removed.
- Fixing: lever-locked suction cup; fixing holes in the body for screw fixing.
- Body material: plastic.
Procat hole saw guide 4-90 mm instructions for use:
1. Preparing the surface: Clean and dry the fixing point. The suction cup only grips a smooth, non-porous and dust-free surface.
2. Adjusting the rollers: Set the roller pairs to the bit diameter with the adjustment knobs so that the bit fits between the rollers without play. For bits that do not fit between the rollers, turn the backing plate the other way round and remove the guide rollers.
3. Fixing: Place the central opening of the guide over the marked hole and lock the suction cup with the lever. Check by hand that the guide does not move. If the surface is porous, screw the guide in place through the fixing holes in the body.
4. Drilling: Insert the bit into the opening, start the machine and begin drilling with a light feed. Once the teeth have bitten about 2–3 mm into the material, you can remove the guide and finish the hole without it.
5. Maintenance: Wipe the suction cup seal and the rollers after use. A dusty or scratched seal weakens the vacuum. Check regularly that the rollers turn, and store the guide in a dry place.
Warnings:
- Check the grip of the suction cup before each drilling: a guide that comes loose can be thrown off and the bit can wander uncontrollably.
- Do not fix the suction cup to a rough, porous or wet surface.
- Wear safety glasses and ear defenders; hole sawing throws off fragments and dust.
- Keep your fingers away from between the rotating bit and the guide rollers.
- Do not use the guide as a lever or wedge, and do not load the body sideways.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Which bit diameters does the Procat hole saw guide 4-90 mm fit? Bits of 4–90 mm. Small bits are guided between the rollers, large bits by turning the backing plate the other way round and removing the guide rollers.
How is the guide fixed to the surface? With a lever-locked suction cup on a clean, smooth surface. The body also has fixing holes for screw fixing.
Can the guide be used with a diamond core bit? Yes. The guide supports the rim of the bit with rollers and needs no centre drill, so it suits diamond bits for glass, tile and stone.
Does the guide have to stay in place for the whole drilling? No. The guide is needed at the start until the teeth have bitten into the material; after that, drilling continues without the guide.
Why does the suction cup not hold? The most common reason is dust, moisture or a porous surface. Clean and dry the surface and the suction cup seal, or screw the guide in place through the fixing holes in the body.
Does the guide scratch the tile surface? The plastic body and suction cup do not scratch a glazed surface as long as the fixing point is clean of sand and drilling waste.
Recycling instructions:
Packaging cardboard and paper to carton collection, plastic film to plastic collection. Sort a guide that is no longer used into its parts: plastic body and suction cup to plastic collection or the energy fraction, bearing-mounted guide rollers and metal fixings to metal collection. Alternatively, the whole product can be taken to a collection point for mixed small metal and plastic according to the waste station’s instructions.
