Description
The Schwan tiling sponge has been developed especially for the cleaning stage after grouting ceramic tiles and paving. The sponge is made of high-quality foam that offers an optimal combination of high absorbency and durability. Its structure is designed to withstand the mechanical strain caused by coarse grout materials, sand and sharp tile edges better than ordinary household sponges.
A key feature of the product is its high tear strength and wear resistance. This means that the sponge does not crumble or fall apart easily in use, even if it is rubbed hard against cement-based grouts. This extends the service life of the sponge significantly and reduces the amount of material coming off during work, which improves the washing result and makes work more efficient. Although the sponge is durable, its foam structure is soft enough to be gentle on more delicate glazed tile surfaces too.
The dimensions of the sponge (165 x 110 x 65 mm) are optimised so that it sits well in the hand and allows even large surfaces to be worked quickly. The size is large enough for efficient water absorption, yet compact enough for precise work in corners, at edges and in confined spaces. Environmental aspects have been taken into account in the manufacture of the product, and it is made without CFC compounds (chlorofluorocarbons).
Intended use:
This product is intended primarily for the finishing stages of tiling work and general cleaning.
- Cleaning after grouting: The main use of the sponge is washing the tile surface immediately after grouting. Its absorbent, soft foam structure efficiently lifts and holds excess grout and grout haze from the tile surface, leaving the joints neat and even without damaging them.
- General cleaning on tiling jobs: Thanks to its durability and tear strength, the sponge is also suitable for other cleaning tasks on site. It can be used, for example, to wipe tools, remove tile adhesive splashes while still fresh or dampen the substrate before applying tile adhesive.
Package contents:
- 1 pcs Schwan tiling sponge, foam
Features:
- Material: Made of durable foam designed to withstand construction chemicals and mechanical strain.
- Tear-resistant and hard-wearing: The structure of the sponge prevents crumbling and tearing when working on rough surfaces, which guarantees a long service life.
- Optimal absorbency: The porous, soft material absorbs water and dirt efficiently, which is essential for a successful, streak-free washing result.
- Ergonomic size: The dimensions of 165 x 110 x 65 mm offer a good grip and an efficient working area even for large surfaces.
- CFC-free: No ozone-depleting CFC compounds have been used in the manufacturing process, which makes it a more environmentally friendly choice.

Schwan tiling sponge instructions for use:
Dip the sponge in clean water and squeeze it until just damp before use. The sponge must not be wet, so that the water does not soak fresh grout out of the joints or weaken its strength. Wipe the tile surface with the sponge using light pressure. For the best result and to avoid damaging the joints, always move the sponge diagonally across the joints. Never wipe straight along the joint, as this can dig grout out of the joint.
Rinse the sponge regularly in clean water and squeeze it out after each rinse. Change the washing water often enough so that no film from dirty water is left on the tile surface. Repeat the washing if needed until the tile surface is clean of grout haze. After use, rinse all grout residue out of the sponge carefully and let it dry in an airy place. This extends the service life of the sponge significantly.
Warnings:
Do not use a sponge that is too wet for washing joints, as too much water can weaken the grout, cause colour differences (patchiness) or wash the joint too deep. Avoid hard rubbing, especially on fresh joints. This sponge is intended primarily for cleaning cement-based grouts.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Can this sponge be used with epoxy grout?
This sponge is designed primarily for cement-based grouts. Although it is durable, epoxy grouts are considerably stickier and harder to clean and may quickly clog this type of foam sponge. Special coarser sponges or scrub pads are often recommended for epoxy.
Is the sponge disposable?
No, the sponge is designed to be reusable for professional use. Its tear-resistant, hard-wearing structure allows it to be used on several jobs, as long as it is cleaned carefully after use.
What does softness of the sponge mean in this context?
“Soft” in this context refers to the sponge’s ability to absorb water and its gentleness on the tile surface compared with coarse abrasive sponges. However, it is firm and durable in structure so that it can withstand the strains of grouting.
Recycling instructions:
A foam sponge that is no longer used and is completely dry can be disposed of as mixed waste or energy waste in line with local waste management regulations. Make sure there is no wet grout or chemicals in the sponge before disposal.
