Description
The Schwan plastering hook, also known as a mason’s nail, is a special tool for quick, firm fixing of building boards, guide boards and screed boards to stone and brick walls. The product is designed to replace traditional nails and screws in situations that need a strong hold but easy removal without tools. The overall length of the hook is 160 mm, which lets it reach deep into the base material and fix even thicker pieces.
The product works with a hardened steel hook and a locking mechanism that moves along it. The hook is driven into the base with a hammer to the required depth. The piece to be fixed, such as a wooden screed board, is then placed between the shank of the hook and the wall. The L-shaped clamp on the shank is pressed against the board, locking it in place. The construction is considerably heavier than ordinary nails, which stops the hook bending during installation and allows the same hook to be reused many times.
Intended use:
The plastering hook is an essential aid in the preparation for plastering, filling and masonry work:
- Fixing screed boards: Fitting guides to the wall to ensure straight plastering.
- Board installation: Temporary support of insulation or formwork boards before final fixing or casting.
- Masonry aid: Anchoring mason’s lines or other aids to a brick wall.

The product is sold individually:

Features:
The features of the Schwan plastering hook make work more efficient:
- Sliding clamp: The clamp, which moves freely on the shank, allows boards and sheets of different thicknesses to be locked quickly without separate tools.
- Strong shank: The thick steel construction withstands hammering without bending, unlike thin nails.
- Sharp point: The forged square point sinks efficiently into mortar, brick and block.
- Reusability: The product is designed to withstand repeated fixing and removal.

Plastering hook instructions for use:
Installation: Choose the fixing point, preferably a brick joint or a softer spot in the block. Drive the plastering hook into the wall with a hammer deep enough for it to hold firmly, but leave enough of the shank visible for the piece to be fixed. Place the screed board or sheet next to the shank of the hook. Slide the clamp plate on the shank of the hook tightly against the board and tap the clamp lightly with a hammer to secure the lock.
Removal: When the plastering is finished or the support can be removed, tap the clamp plate in the opposite direction to loosen it. Remove the board. Tap the hook lightly sideways to break its grip and pull the hook out of the wall.
Warnings:
To ensure safe use:
- Safety glasses: Always wear safety glasses when driving hardened steel into masonry, as fragments can come off.
- Fixing base: Make sure the hook does not hit electrical cables or water pipes inside the wall.
- Falling objects: Make sure the hook is driven in deep enough to carry the weight of the screed board.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Does the hook leave a large hole?
The hook is thicker than an ordinary nail, so when removed it leaves a hole that is filled during plastering or filling.
Can this be used in concrete?
The hook is intended primarily for brick, block and mortar joints. Driving it into hard concrete may require a drilled pilot hole or may damage the hook.
Recycling instructions:
The product is metal and is recycled as follows:
- Hook: Metal collection.
