Description
The Yato Abico crimp terminal set is a comprehensive Abico crimp terminal set containing 240 different electrical terminals. This general-purpose automotive electrical set is designed for the needs of electricians and mechanics for connecting and repairing electrical systems. The terminals in the set are suitable for use in cars, lorries and construction machinery, for example. The terminals are made of brass to ensure good electrical conductivity, and they have PVC insulation.
The set contains terminals of different types and sizes, colour-coded to standards according to conductor cross-section. The red terminals are for 0.5–1.5 mm² conductors and the blue terminals for 1.5–2.5 mm² conductors. The range includes both male and female spade terminals in different widths (6.4 mm and 4.8 mm), as well as fully insulated versions for applications that need better touch protection. More specialised male-male extension connectors are also included.
All 240 parts are packed in a handy, sturdy plastic assortment box (carry case). The box has separate compartments for each type of terminal, which keeps the terminals in order, makes it easier to find the right part and makes the set effortless to carry. The terminals are fitted by crimping them onto the electrical conductor with suitable crimping pliers (crimping tool), which creates a mechanically strong and electrically reliable connection.
Intended use:
The Yato Abico crimp terminal set is used for reliable connection and extension of electrical wires in low-voltage systems. Its typical applications are:

Yato Abico crimp terminal set instructions for use:
Follow these instructions when fitting the terminals:
Preparation:
Make sure the circuit is de-energised before starting work. Choose a terminal suitable for the cross-section (mm²) of the electrical conductor: a red terminal for a 0.5-1.5 mm² conductor and a blue terminal for a 1.5-2.5 mm² conductor. Also choose the right type (male/female) and width (4.8/6.4mm) of terminal to match the mating part.
Fitting:
Strip about 5-7 mm of insulation from the end of the conductor using wire strippers. Take care not to damage the strands of the conductor. Twist the strands lightly together. Push the stripped end of the conductor through the insulated part of the terminal into the metal sleeve until the conductor insulation meets the edge of the metal sleeve.
Use quality crimping pliers intended for insulated terminals (Abico pliers). Place the terminal in the correct jaw of the pliers (colour-coded red/blue dot on the jaws). Squeeze the handles of the pliers firmly together until the crimp is complete (many pliers only release when enough crimping force has been reached). Check the strength of the connection by pulling lightly on the conductor. The connection should be tight and the terminal should stay firmly on the conductor. Connect the terminal to the mating part.
Warnings:
Essential warnings for using the product:
- Risk of electric shock: Work only on de-energised circuits. Make sure the power is switched off before fitting.
- The right tools: Always use crimping pliers intended for insulated terminals. The wrong tools (e.g. general-purpose pliers) can damage the terminal and lead to a poor connection that can heat up.
- The right size: Always use a terminal size suitable for the cross-section of the conductor (red/blue). A terminal of the wrong size does not guarantee a reliable electrical connection.
- Checking the connection: Always check after crimping that the connection is mechanically strong.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
What is the difference between the red and blue terminals?
The difference lies in the intended conductor cross-section. Red terminals are designed for thinner conductors (0.5–1.5 mm²) and blue terminals for medium-thick conductors (1.5–2.5 mm²). Using the wrong colour can lead to a loose or poorly conducting connection.
What kind of pliers do I need to crimp these terminals?
You need crimping pliers intended for insulated crimp terminals (crimping terminals), with red and blue colour coding at the jaws to show the right crimping point. Do not use ordinary pliers.
Can these terminals be used at 230V mains voltage?
This set is primarily designed for low-voltage systems in vehicles and machinery (e.g. 12V/24V DC). Mains voltage installations (230V AC) must follow the regulations for fixed installations and use terminals and installation methods approved for them.
What does a “fully insulated” female terminal mean?
In a fully insulated terminal (such as the 6.4 mm red and blue fully insulated female terminals in the set), the PVC insulation covers the whole metal part of the terminal, including the contact surface. This prevents short circuits if the terminal accidentally touches metal surfaces while connected.
Recycling instructions:
Recycling of the packaging and product:
Assortment box: The empty plastic assortment box should be recycled as plastic packaging (hard plastics).
Terminals: Unused or faulty terminals consist of metal (brass) and plastic (PVC). They should be taken to metal recycling (if clean) or to a collection point for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) if it is difficult to separate the metal from the plastic or if they are part of larger electrical scrap.
