Description
Yato cordless chainsaw 18V 4 Ah set (YT-828137) includes a cordless chainsaw, a 4.0 Ah Li-Ion battery and a charging station. The saw has a 12″ (305 mm) guide bar, a 3/8″ (9.525 mm) pitch chain and a chain speed of 6.5 m/s, and it is designed for cross-cutting wood, limbing and making firewood.
The battery capacity is 4000 mAh and the energy 72 Wh, and the charging station charges it in about 2 hours. There is a charge level indicator on the battery and under the rear handle of the saw, so you can see the remaining charge before starting work. The battery also fits other tools in the Yato 18 V system.
The chain is lubricated automatically by a pump from a 210 ml oil tank, whose level is visible through the inspection window. The chain is tensioned without tools using the tensioning knob on the side panel. Safety is improved by a dual brake, a kickback brake in front of the front handle and a switch lock.
The rated voltage of the saw is 18 V DC, protection class III and IP rating IPX1, and the speed is 3500 min⁻¹. The saw weighs 3.3 kg without battery, guide bar and chain. The sound power level is 102.0 dB(A) (guaranteed 105 dB(A)), so hearing protection is essential.
Uses and suitability:
The cordless chainsaw is designed only for cutting wood. The set is ready to use as soon as the battery is charged, and no separate batteries or charger are needed.
- Firewood: Cutting logs and poles on a sawhorse so that the cut piece falls freely and the chain does not jam in the kerf.
- Limbing and branch removal: Cutting thick branches about 15 cm from the trunk in three cuts, so that the bark does not tear.
- Yard and cottage clearing: Cutting up fallen trees and storm damage without a combustion engine, fuel or starter cord.
- Work near buildings: The cordless saw produces no exhaust fumes, so it can be used under a shelter and next to buildings.
A suitable extra battery is the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery, and for charging two batteries, the Yato battery charger 18V 2.4-4.5A smart fast charger. For sharpening the chain, use the Yato cordless chain sharpener 18V, body only, which runs on the same battery. For heavier work, choose the Yato cordless chainsaw 16″ 2X18V, body only. Without the battery and charger, the same saw is available as body-only model YT-828138.

Yato cordless chainsaw 18V 4 Ah user instructions:
Charging the battery: The battery is supplied uncharged. Slide the battery into the charging station and plug the station into a socket: the red indicator light is on while charging and the green light when the battery is full. Charge only in a dry place under supervision.
Fitting the bar and chain: Remove the battery and wear protective gloves. Remove the side panel locking screw, turn the tensioning knob and remove the panel. Place the chain in the bar groove and on the drive sprocket so that the direction of the links matches the marking on the housing. Refit the panel, adjust the tension with the tensioning knob and tighten the lock. A correctly tensioned chain lifts 3–4 mm from the bar when lifted at the middle; check the tension every 10 minutes of use.
Adding oil: Place the saw horizontally, open the oil tank cap and fill with chain oil up to the maximum mark. Used engine oil must not be used. Start the saw at least 3 metres away from the filling point.
Starting and cutting: Slide the battery into the battery slot at the rear of the housing until the latch locks. Make sure the kickback brake is in the rear position and remove the bar cover. Hold the front handle with your left hand and the rear handle with your right, press the lock button with your thumb and press the trigger. Check the lubrication by pointing the running bar towards the ground. Bring the saw to the wood only at full speed, cut with the lower edge of the bar and do not cut with the upper quarter of the bar tip.
Maintenance and storage: Remove the battery, clean the housing and ventilation openings, check the chain tension and condition and add oil. Empty the oil tank before long-term storage. Store the battery at 0–30 °C at about 70% charge and charge it at least once a year.
Warnings:
- Kickback: If the bar tip hits an object or the chain jams in the kerf, the saw can be thrown towards the user. Always hold the saw with both hands.
- Wood only: Do not cut plastic, concrete or other building materials; watch out for nails and stones in the wood.
- Not in a tree, on a ladder or on a roof: Work standing on a firm, level surface.
- Personal protective equipment: Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, a safety helmet, protective gloves, safety footwear and close-fitting protective clothing.
- Bystanders: Keep children and bystanders away from the work area; when felling trees, the danger zone and escape routes must be defined in advance.
- Moisture: Do not expose the saw, battery or charging station to rain and do not work in rain or fog.
- Battery and charging: Do not short-circuit the battery terminals and do not use a damaged battery or charging station; unplug the charger if it produces smoke or an odour.
- Hedges: The chainsaw must not be used for shaping hedges or trimming shrubs.
