Description
Yato cordless rotary hammer 2.5 J 2×4 Ah is an 18 V SDS PLUS rotary hammer with a brushless motor, an impact energy of 2.5 J, a speed of 0–1400 min⁻¹ and the impact rate 0–5000 min⁻¹. The maximum drilling diameter in concrete is 22 mm. The set includes two 18 V 4 Ah Li-Ion batteries (72 Wh), a charger and a carrying bag, so one battery can be charged while the other is in use.
The rotary hammer has four operating modes: drilling without impact, hammer drilling, chiselling without rotation and chisel position adjustment. Hammer drilling makes holes in concrete, brick, stone and marble, the non-impact mode is for wood, metal and plastics, and in chiselling mode the SDS PLUS chisel strikes without rotating. The operating mode is selected with the rotary switch on the body, which has a separate lock.
The brushless motor is mounted vertically inside the short body, which brings the centre of gravity close to the handle. The unit weighs 2.0 kg without the battery, which makes series of holes drilled into the ceiling and overhead easier, for example for cable clips and suspended ceiling hangers. Stepless speed control increases the speed and impact rate according to how far the trigger is pressed.
The equipment includes an LED work light, which illuminates the drilling point, a direction switch, a detachable auxiliary handle and a drilling depth stop. The insulation class is III and its IP rating is IPX0. The same rotary hammer is also available as body-only model YT-827723 without a battery and charger, and as set YT-827721 with one 4 Ah battery and a charger.
Uses and suitability:
The Yato cordless rotary hammer 2.5 J 2×4 Ah is designed for drilling holes for fixings, plugs and penetrations in masonry materials and for light chiselling. Hammer drilling uses SDS PLUS masonry drills, such as the Yato masonry drill bit SDS+ premium, 4-cutter, and chiselling uses SDS PLUS chisels, for example the Yato SDS+ point chisel 14 x 250 mm and Yato SDS+ flat chisel 20 x 250 mm.
- Fixing holes in concrete and brick: Holes for plugs and wedge anchors by hammer drilling up to 22 mm in diameter with carbide-tipped SDS PLUS masonry drills.
- Electrical and plumbing installations: Holes for cable clips, pipe brackets and penetrations; the LED light makes work easier in installation shafts and dim spaces.
- Ceiling installations: The 2.0 kg body and short design make series drilling overhead easier, for example for suspended ceiling hangers.
- Light chiselling: Removing tiles, mortar and render and opening grooves and recesses in chiselling mode; the chisel angle is adjusted to suit the working position before chiselling.
- Drilling wood and metal: In non-impact mode, wood, metal and plastics are drilled with SDS PLUS bits; in anticlockwise rotation, screws are removed at the lowest speed.
- Batteries and charger: The two 4 Ah batteries in the set charge in about 2 hours with the supplied charger; the spare battery keeps work going during charging. The batteries also fit other Yato 18V tools.

Yato cordless rotary hammer 2.5 J 2×4 Ah user instructions:
All preparation, bit changes and maintenance are done with the battery removed. Read the entire user manual before first use.
- Auxiliary handle and depth stop: Place the auxiliary handle on its mounting point on the body, turn it to a suitable position and tighten. Fit the depth stop in the handle holder and set it to the required hole depth.
- Fitting the bit: Clean the SDS PLUS chuck and lubricate it lightly with general-purpose grease. Pull the rear of the chuck towards the handle, push the bit into place and release. The bit should move slightly lengthways but must not come out when pulled.
- Operating mode: Press the selector switch lock and turn the switch: drill bit symbol = drilling, drill bit and hammer = hammer drilling, hammer = chiselling, chisel and arrow = chisel position adjustment.
- Charging the battery: The batteries are supplied uncharged. Clean the battery terminals with a dry cloth, place the battery in the charger and plug the charger into a socket; the charger indicator light shows the charging status. Unplug the charger when charging is complete.
- Battery and direction: Slide the charged battery into the battery slot until the latch locks. Select the direction of rotation only when the machine has stopped.
- Drilling masonry: Hold the machine with both hands by the handle and the auxiliary handle. First drill a small pilot hole without impact, then drill the actual hole with impact using a carbide-tipped masonry drill with even pressure, and pull the drill out from time to time to remove drilling dust.
- Chiselling: Fit the chisel, turn the switch to the chisel and arrow position and rotate the chisel to the required angle with the trigger. Turn the switch to the hammer position and start chiselling.
- Finishing and maintenance: Release the trigger and wait for the bit to stop. Remove the battery and clean the body, ventilation openings and handles with compressed air (max. 0.3 MPa), a brush or a dry cloth without solvents.
Warnings:
- Protective equipment: Wear safety glasses, hearing protection and protective gloves; for dusty work, also a respirator.
- Noise and vibration: The sound power level is 102.3 dB(A) and vibration 11.364 m/s²; wear hearing protection and take regular breaks.
- Auxiliary handle: Always use the machine with the auxiliary handle fitted; a jamming bit can twist the machine in your hand.
- Hidden cables and pipes: Check the drilling point before drilling and hold the machine by the insulated gripping surfaces if the bit may hit a live cable.
- Long drill bits: Start at low speed with the bit tip against the workpiece and press only in line with the bit.
- Overload: Do not press too hard; the temperature of the outer surfaces must not exceed 60 °C. The bit can keep rotating for a moment after switching off.
- Charging: Charge the batteries only with the supplied charger in a closed, dry room under supervision; do not use a damaged charger or cable. If the charger gives off smoke or an odour, unplug it immediately.
- Batteries: Use only Yato 18V batteries and their chargers. Do not short-circuit the battery terminals and do not use a damaged or modified battery.
