Description
Yato cordless reciprocating saw set 18V is a cordless reciprocating saw supplied with a 2 Ah Li-Ion battery and a fast charger (charging time approx. 1 h). The saw is part of the Yato 18 V battery system, in which the same battery fits all tools in the range. The cutting depth is 80 mm in wood and 10 mm in metal.
The blade stroke length is 25.4 mm and the stroke rate is infinitely variable between 0–3000 strokes/min depending on how far the trigger is pressed. The blade holder is a 1/2″ (12.7 mm) universal fitting, which takes the most common reciprocating saw blades; the blade can be fitted with the teeth facing up or down. The blade is changed without tools by turning the clamp.
With the battery, the saw weighs 1.6 kg. The shoe is removable, its height is adjustable in steps and its angle steplessly, so you can change the cutting depth and working position without lifting the shoe off the workpiece. The non-slip handle and the trigger lock prevent accidental starting.
The battery has a 4-stage charge level indicator and cell overheating protection. The operating voltage is 18 V DC, protection class III, IP rating IPX0 (not protected against water). The sound pressure level is 81 dB(A) and the sound power level 92 dB(A), so ear defenders are necessary.
Uses and suitability:
The reciprocating saw is intended for cross-cutting and shape cutting in wood, wood-based boards, plastic and metal, with a blade chosen to suit the material.
- Construction and demolition work: Cutting boards, battens, roof joists and building boards, plunge cutting in soft wood and plasterboard, and demolition work where the blade can be pushed into narrow gaps.
- Garden: Cutting thick branches and small trunks with a wood blade; the saw replaces a handsaw for pruning branches.
- Metal and pipe work: Cutting steel profiles (wall thickness up to 3 mm), sheet metal, and copper and plastic pipes with a metal blade. Sheet metal is cut between two pieces of wood to keep the cut straight.
- Plumbing and electrical installations: Cutting pipes flush with a wall or floor using a flexible blade, and cutting openings in boards from a pre-drilled hole.
The same Yato 18 V battery system includes, among others, the Yato cordless reciprocating saw set 18V 4.0 Ah Li-Ion battery, Yato cordless jigsaw 18V + 2 Ah battery and charger set and Yato battery charger 18V 2.2A. The Yato cordless reciprocating saw set 18V suits users who do not yet have a Yato 18 V battery; the body alone is available under code YT-82815.

Instructions for using the Yato cordless reciprocating saw set 18V:
Charging: Clean the battery contacts with a dry cloth, push the battery into the charger and plug the charger into a socket. The red LED is lit while charging, and the green LED shows that the battery is full. Unplug the charger and release the battery from the charger with the latch button.
Fitting the blade: Remove the battery. Check that the blade is undamaged. Turn the clamp, push the blade shank into the slot in the spindle and release the clamp; pull the blade to make sure it is locked. Use a coarse-toothed blade for wood and a fine-toothed blade for metal and plastic.
Adjusting the shoe: Turn the lever on the front panel, set the shoe to the required height and lock the lever. The whole surface of the shoe must rest against the workpiece while cutting.
Cutting: Clamp the workpiece and support it on both sides of the cutting line. Press the trigger lock and the trigger, let the saw reach speed and start cutting with light pressure. Plunge cut only in soft wood or plasterboard with a short blade. When cutting metal, use a thin film of oil or coolant.
Maintenance: Clean the housing and ventilation openings with compressed air (max. 0.3 MPa) or a brush without chemicals. Store the battery at 0–30 °C at about 70% charge, and charge it at least once a year.
Warnings:
- Read the instruction manual before use. Wear safety glasses, ear defenders and protective gloves.
- Always remove the battery before changing the blade, making adjustments or servicing. Fit the blade wearing protective gloves.
- Hold the saw by the insulated gripping surfaces: the blade may hit hidden electrical cables.
- Do not hold the workpiece in your hand or against your body; secure it with clamps.
- Do not cut around a wall: risk of kickback. Plunge cutting into metal and hard materials is prohibited.
- The blade keeps moving for a moment after switching off. The surface of the body must not exceed 60 °C.
- Charge the battery only with the supplied charger, in a dry place and under adult supervision. Do not short-circuit the battery terminals and do not use a damaged battery.
- Not for use by children. Not water-protected (IPX0): do not use in rain.
