Description
The Yato rangefinder is a digital distance and speed meter with an optical telescope, designed for accurately measuring long distances, linear angles and the speed of moving targets. It uses an eye-safe 905 nm laser and advanced digital signal processing, which gives reliable measurements even in demanding background lighting. The linear measuring range of the system reaches up to 1000 metres, giving high resolution over a wide working range.
The device has an integrated optical monocular with 6x magnification and a 24 mm objective lens, which lets you aim accurately at distant targets. The optical system has multi-coated lenses to minimise image distortion and maximise light transmission. Measurement data, such as the selected mode, distance in metres or yards, angle in degrees and speed units, is shown directly on the LCD display inside the viewfinder, so the user can follow the target and the readings at the same time.
The speed measurement function can determine the speed of an approaching or receding target between 0–300 km/h, which extends the use of the device beyond conventional distance measurement. Besides direct distance measurement, the multi-function software includes a flagpole lock mode (pinseeker), a trajectory correction function and height and angle measurements using the built-in tilt sensor. The device is powered by one 3 V (CR2) lithium battery (sold separately), and its body is protected against dust and splashing water, ensuring reliable operation outdoors.
The Yato YT-73142 offers high industrial and operational value by replacing several separate measuring devices with one integrated optoelectronic system. The measuring accuracy is ±1 metre for distance and ±5 km/h for speed, which meets the technical requirements of infrastructure planning, line construction, forestry mapping and land surveying. The supplied karabiner and wrist strap ensure safe mechanical attachment to a harness or belt loops when working at height or in difficult terrain.
Intended use and suitability:
The product is developed for large-scale determination of distance, angle and speed in outdoor installations, on construction sites and in mapping projects.
- Line construction and cabling: The device is used to estimate the spans of power lines, mast structures and telecommunication cables and the distances of terrain features. The angle measurement function lets you calculate vertical distances without physical access to the point being measured.
- Forestry and plot mapping: Suitable for estimating tree heights, quickly checking boundary distances and coordinating between topographic points in the terrain when conventional tape measures are impractical because of obstacles.
- Traffic monitoring and logistics: The speed measurement function is used to monitor the speed of vehicles and work machines in factory areas, port terminals and closed sites to optimise safety at work and logistics processes.

Yato YT-73142 instructions for use:
Open the battery compartment cover and insert the 3 V CR2 lithium battery according to the polarity markings. Attach the wrist strap and karabiner to the attachment point on the body so that the device stays with you in difficult field conditions. Switch on the device with a short press of the power button (Power/Start); the LCD display inside the viewfinder comes on. Look through the viewfinder and turn the dioptre ring of the eyepiece until the image and reticle are completely sharp for your eye.
Select the measuring mode you want (e.g. distance, speed or angle) by pressing the mode button (Mode). Aim the reticle in the centre of the viewfinder at the target and press the power button once. The device takes a laser pulse measurement immediately and shows the result on the display. When measuring speed, hold the button down and follow the moving target with the reticle until the device locks the speed value. Clean the optical surfaces regularly with the supplied microfibre cloth.
Warnings:
- Never look at the sun or strong artificial light sources with the device or through its viewfinder, as this can cause permanent eye injury.
- Although the measuring laser of the device is invisible and classified as eye-safe (class 1), avoid pointing the device directly into the eyes of other people or animals at close range.
- Do not dismantle the optical or electronic body of the device yourself; incorrect handling can damage the laser components or void the warranty.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Why does the rangefinder give no reading in foggy weather or heavy rain?
Laser distance measurement is based on a light pulse reflecting from the target back to the device’s receiver. Dense fog, rain or a snowstorm in the air scatters and attenuates the laser radiation, which shortens the maximum measuring distance or prevents the signal from being registered.
Can the device measure distance through an ordinary window pane?
Measuring through glass may fail or give an incorrect result, because part of the laser beam is reflected back from the surface of the window. The best results are achieved by measuring directly at the target along an unobstructed line.
Recycling instructions:
The device contains electronic components and optical parts, so it must not be disposed of with household waste. At the end of its life, take the product to a collection point for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). Remove the CR2 lithium battery from the device before recycling and take it to separate battery recycling. The carrying case is sorted as textile or mixed waste and the packaging cardboard into cardboard collection.
