Description
The Yato shock absorber 1.8 m is safety equipment designed for use as part of a fall protection system. It connects the safety harness to a secure anchor point, giving protection when working at height. The product is made of durable polyester, and it works by absorbing energy: the specially designed seams of the shock absorber come apart in a controlled way in a fall. This mechanism slows the fall and reduces the sudden load on the body, protecting the user in hazardous situations.
This 1.8 metre lanyard has a 12 mm thick polyester rope that is weather-resistant and keeps its shape and strength even in demanding conditions. The static strength of over 22 kN guarantees safety while working. The polyester webbing of the shock absorber is protected against wear, and its design ensures a long service life. The fixed combination of lanyard and absorber keeps the worker safely attached and allows the freedom of movement needed at the workplace.
The system has two karabiners with an automatic closing mechanism and manual locking. This prevents them from coming loose or opening during work. The 16 mm gate opening of the karabiners fits standard anchor points. Meeting the criteria of EN 355:2002, the product gives protection up to a maximum load of 100 kg and works seamlessly at temperatures of -40 °C – +58 °C.
Intended use:
The product is designed to ensure safe work in tasks more than 1 metre above the ground where collective protective measures cannot be used.
- Construction and scaffold erection: Essential equipment on construction sites where people move on high structures, scaffolding or near open shafts. Ensures that the worker is safely attached.
- Roof work and maintenance: Suitable for roof maintenance, snow clearing and other roof work. The 1.8 metre length gives the necessary freedom of movement without lowering the level of protection.
- Industrial maintenance: Designed for maintenance tasks in industrial plants that involve climbing silos or masts or otherwise working safely on high levels.
Package contents:
The pack contains a complete set for connecting a fall protection system.
- 1 pc Yato shock absorber 1.8 m with lanyard
- 2 pcs self-closing, manually lockable karabiners
Features:
- Controlled shock absorption: The specially stitched webbing comes apart in stages in a fall. This mechanism slows the fall considerably and minimises the impact force on the user when the fall is arrested.
- Self-locking karabiners: The two karabiners have an automatic spring gate and manual locking, which eliminates the risk of accidental opening.
- Durable polyester construction: Both the absorber section and the 12 mm thick lanyard are made of weather-resistant polyester that withstands mechanical wear.
- EN standard approval: The product has been tested by an independent test laboratory and meets the requirements of EN 355:2002 for fall protection equipment.
- Wide operating temperature: The materials and mechanisms stay reliable at temperatures from -40 °C of frost up to +58 °C of heat.

Yato shock absorber 1.8 m instructions for use:
Carry out a visual inspection of the equipment before each use. Check the polyester rope for fraying, wear or chemical damage. Make sure the protective cover of the shock absorber is intact and the seams show no signs of coming apart or stress. Test the karabiners: the springs must close by themselves and the manual locking must work smoothly without obstruction.
Attach one karabiner to the dorsal or chest attachment point of the safety harness (to EN 361). Attach the other karabiner to a secure, approved anchor point (EN 795) that must withstand a load of at least 12 kN. Make sure the anchor point is preferably above the user to minimise the possible fall distance.
Calculate the clear space needed below you before starting work. The shock absorber extends in a fall as the absorber section opens. The required fall clearance is the lanyard length (1.8 m) plus the maximum deployment length of the absorber, the height of the worker and a safety margin of at least 1 metre. Store the product in a dry, well-ventilated place protected from direct sunlight and heat sources. Clean the product with water and a mild detergent when needed and let it dry on its own at room temperature.
Warnings:
Note the following safety warnings before using the product.
- Single use in a fall: If the product has arrested a fall and the seams of the shock absorber have opened or been damaged, take the product out of use immediately and dispose of it. It must not be repaired or reused.
- Maximum load: Do not exceed the stated maximum load of 100 kg, which includes the weight of the user with equipment and tools.
- No modifications: Do not make any modifications or additions of your own to the product. For example, tying knots in the rope significantly reduces its strength.
- Sharp edges: Keep the rope away from sharp edges, rough surfaces and corrosive chemicals, as they damage the polyester material.
- Free fall clearance: Always make sure there is enough clear space below the work site so that, in a fall, the worker does not hit the ground or structures before the absorber has fully deployed.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
How does a shock absorber differ from an ordinary lanyard?
An ordinary lanyard does not absorb the force of the fall, so the body takes a dangerously large jolt when the fall is arrested. A shock absorber, by contrast, opens gradually by means of tearing seams, which extends the braking time and limits the force on the body to a safe level (below 6 kN).
Can I extend the service life of the shock absorber if it has never been used?
All fall protection equipment made of textiles and polyester has a maximum service life set by the manufacturer, counted from the date of manufacture depending on the storage conditions. Even if the product has not been used, the materials age slowly. Take the product out of use when its service life ends, however many times it has been used.
Which loop of the safety harness should this be attached to?
The product is always attached to the designated fall arrest attachment point of an EN 361 approved full body harness. This is usually marked with a large letter “A” and is located on the back of the harness between the shoulders or on the chest.
Recycling instructions:
The polyester rope and webbing of the product are sorted as combustible waste (mixed waste) according to local waste regulations. As safety equipment, the product is not suitable for textile collection. The karabiners and other metal parts of the product must be removed (for example by cutting them off the webbing) and sorted into metal collection. Plastic packaging materials of the product should be sorted as plastic.
