Description
The Yato drain snake is a hand-operated drain cleaning tool that is pushed into the pipe and turned with the crank through the blockage. The spiral is galvanised spring steel, so it springs back straight after bends and does not stay twisted in the pipe.
The end of the spiral is a U-shaped hook: it bites into the blockage and breaks it up, and catches hair, fibres and other solid matter, which can be pulled out of the pipe. This helps especially with inorganic blockages that chemical drain openers do not work on.
The handle and crank are PVC plastic. The crank keeps the spiral under control and transmits the rotation to its tip as the spiral advances through bends. The grip stays firm even with wet hands.
The Yato drain snake is available in three models: 3 m x 5 mm, 5 m x 6 mm and 10 m x 9 mm. The thinner, shorter spiral suits the traps of washbasins and sinks, the thicker, longer one floor drains and longer drain lines. Choose the model in the model selection on the product page.
Intended use and suitability:
The drain snake opens a blocked drain pipe mechanically. The spiral follows the bends of the pipe and the tip breaks up the blockage at a point that water or chemicals cannot reach.
- Washbasin, sink and bidet: 3 m x 5 mm reaches past the trap in thin pipes.
- Kitchen and bathroom drain pipes: 5 m x 6 mm for ordinary drain bends.
- Floor drains and longer lines: 10 m x 9 mm as a stiffer, longer spiral.
- Inorganic blockages: hair, fibres and dense matter that chemical drain openers do not cut through.
Package contents:
- 1 drain snake: spring steel spiral, U-tip, PVC handle and crank
Features:
- Galvanised spring steel spiral: springs back straight and resists corrosion in waste water.

Yato drain snake instructions for use:
Preparation: Remove the trap cover or grate. Put a container or cloth on the floor, as water and dirt will come out of the pipe. Wear protective gloves.
Pushing in: Push the tip of the spiral into the pipe and feed it by hand until you feel it reach the blockage. Turn the crank clockwise while pushing gently forwards. Do not force it through a bend; turn it at the same time.
Clearing the blockage: When the tip bites into the blockage, turn it several times and pull the spiral back slightly. Repeat pushing and pulling until the blockage breaks up or catches on the tip. Pull the spiral out slowly and clean the tip.
Finishing: Flush the pipe with plenty of water. Wash the spiral, dry it and coil it up for storage; a damp spiral will rust.
Warnings:
- Wear protective gloves and safety glasses: waste water and blockage debris contain bacteria.
- Do not use the spiral straight after a chemical drain opener, as the corrosive substance splashes with the spiral.
- Hold the handle at all times; a spiral that is let go twists and can strike.
- Do not force the spiral: it can kink or damage a thin plastic pipe.
- Keep out of the reach of children and pets; the tip is sharp and the spiral is springy.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Which Yato drain snake model is chosen for which pipe? 3 m x 5 mm for the traps of washbasins and sinks, 5 m x 6 mm for ordinary drain pipes, 10 m x 9 mm for floor drains and longer lines.
Can the drain snake be used in a plastic pipe? Yes, when the spiral is fed in while turning and not forced. Too much force scratches or punctures a thin plastic pipe.
Does the drain snake work on hair blockages? Yes. The U-tip catches hair and fibres, which are pulled out of the pipe.
Is a machine needed? No. The spiral is hand-operated and turned with the crank.
How is the spiral stored? After washing, wiped dry and coiled up in a dry place, so that the spring steel does not rust.
Recycling instructions:
A drain snake taken out of use is sorted: the spring steel spiral for metal collection and the PVC handle and crank as mixed waste, as PVC does not belong in plastic collection. Clean the spiral before recycling. Put the packaging in cardboard recycling.
