Description
Yato power cable reel 25 m (YT-8120) is a three-phase extension cable reel with 25 metres of H07RN-F 5G2.5 mm² rubber cable on a plastic drum supported by a metal frame. The reel connects to a 400 V CEE 16 A socket with a 5-pin plug (3P+N+PE). The drum has one 5-pin CEE 16 A 400 V socket and two 230 V sockets.
The conductors have a cross-section of 2.5 mm², so the voltage drop stays low over the full 25 metres. Fully unwound, the reel’s maximum load is 9000 W at 400 V and 3600 W at 230 V. With the cable wound on the reel, the limits are 3000 W and 1200 W. The limits apply to the combined power of all devices connected to the sockets.
The conductors of the H07RN-F cable are insulated with natural rubber and the sheath is neoprene rubber. The sheath withstands mechanical stress, sunlight, cold, cutting oils and petrol. The reel is rated IP44. The sockets have hinged protective covers.
The reel has thermal protection that cuts the power when the cable temperature rises to 56 ± 5 °C. Once the reel has cooled down, the protection is reset with the button next to the sockets. The metal frame, carrying handle and winding handle on the edge of the drum make the reel easier to move and rewind.
The two 230 V sockets are type E: earthing is through an earth pin fixed in the socket (2P+T). The sockets accept CEE 7/7 hybrid plugs (Schuko/E), which have a hole for the earth pin, but a plain CEE 7/4 Schuko plug without the hole does not fit. The 230 V sockets have child protection that prevents access to the contact openings.
Intended use and suitability:
The reel distributes a three-phase 400 V supply from a site distribution board or a fixed CEE socket to one 400 V device and two 230 V devices. The rubber cable and IP44 rating allow use indoors and outdoors.
- Construction sites: Supplying concrete mixers, compressors and other 400 V equipment from the site distribution board when 230 V connections are also needed for lights or hand-held power tools.
- Welding and machine shops: The 2.5 mm² conductors keep the voltage drop low with equipment that draws a high current, such as welding machines and machines driven by induction motors.
- Yards and gardens: Temporary power supply for outdoor work, for example for a three-phase log splitter or a heater.
- Production and storage areas: A portable 400 V connection for factory and warehouse yards where the fixed socket is far from the work site.

Yato power cable reel 25 m user manual:
1. Check before use: Make sure that the mains voltage and frequency match the values on the reel’s rating plate (230/400 V~, 50 Hz). Visually check the cable, plug and sockets. A damaged reel must not be used.
2. Unwind the cable: Unwind the cable fully before applying a heavy load. With the cable wound on the reel, the load may be no more than 1200 W (230 V) or 3000 W (400 V). Fully unwound, the limit is 3600 W (230 V) or 9000 W (400 V).
3. Connect the supply and the devices: Connect the 5-pin plug to a 400 V CEE 16 A socket protected by an RCD. Connect the devices to the reel’s sockets and keep their combined power below the load limit. The 230 V sockets are type E, so the device’s cable must have a CEE 7/7 hybrid plug or a CEE 7/16 Europlug.
4. Keep the covers closed: IP44 protection requires the covers of unused sockets to be closed. The reel is splash-proof, but it must not be immersed in water or left in standing water.
5. If the thermal protection trips: Disconnect the loads from the reel’s sockets and let the reel cool down. Then press the thermal protection button next to the sockets. The reel cools best when the cable is fully unwound.
6. Moving and storage: Always carry the reel by its carrying handle and do not pull it by the cable. Wind the cable onto the drum with the winding handle and secure the cable end to the edge of the drum with the holder.
Warnings:
- RCD: Only connect the reel to a socket protected by an RCD rated at no more than 30 mA.
- Damaged cable: Unplug immediately if the cable, plug or sockets are damaged. A damaged cable must not be repaired. It may only be replaced with an equivalent cable by a qualified electrician.
- Overheating: A cable wound on the reel heats up under load. Unwind the cable fully before applying a load above 1200 W (230 V) or above 3000 W (400 V).
- Load limit: The combined power of the devices connected to the sockets must not exceed the reel’s maximum load.
- Moisture: IP44 protects against splashing water but not against immersion. Do not connect or disconnect plugs with wet hands.
- Plug compatibility: Do not force a plug into a socket. Do not use adapters that bypass the earth connection.
- Children: The reel is not a toy. Keep it out of the reach of children.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Does a Finnish Schuko plug fit the 230 V socket of the Yato power cable reel 25 m?
The two 230 V sockets of the Yato YT-8120 power cable reel are type E, where earthing is through an earth pin fixed in the socket. The socket accepts CEE 7/7 hybrid plugs (Schuko/E), which have a hole for the earth pin, and unearthed CEE 7/16 Europlugs. A plain CEE 7/4 Schuko plug without the hole for the earth pin does not go into a type E socket.
How much power can be connected to the Yato YT-8120 power cable reel at 400 V and 230 V?
When fully unwound, the Yato YT-8120 power cable reel (25 m, H07RN-F 5G2.5 mm²) has a maximum load of 9000 W at 400 V and 3600 W at 230 V. With the cable wound on the reel, the limits are 3000 W and 1200 W. The values apply to the combined power of all devices connected to the sockets.
Why must the Yato power cable reel 25 m be unwound before a heavy load?
A cable wound on the reel cannot cool down, so the 25-metre H07RN-F 5G2.5 mm² cable of the Yato YT-8120 reel heats up quickly under load. The reel’s thermal protection cuts the power at 56 ± 5 °C. Fully unwound, the reel can take a 9000 W load at 400 V; wound on the reel, it can take a 3000 W load.
Can the Yato YT-8120 power cable reel be used outdoors in the rain?
The Yato YT-8120 power cable reel is rated IP44: the sockets are protected against dust and splashing water when the covers are closed. The H07RN-F rubber cable is suitable for outdoor use. The reel must not be immersed in water or left in standing water.
What should I do when the thermal protection of the Yato YT-8120 reel trips?
The thermal protection of the Yato YT-8120 power cable reel trips at a cable temperature of 56 ± 5 °C. Disconnect the loads from the sockets and let the reel cool down. Then press the thermal protection button next to the sockets and unwind the cable fully before you continue with a heavy load.
What kind of cable does the Yato YT-8120 power cable reel have?
The Yato YT-8120 reel has 25 metres of H07RN-F 5G2.5 mm² rubber cable: five 2.5 mm² copper conductors (three phases, neutral and protective earth), natural rubber insulation and a neoprene sheath. H07RN-F is a harmonised cable type with a rated voltage of 450/750 V.
Recycling instructions:
The Yato power cable reel 25 m is electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) marked with the crossed-out wheelie bin symbol. A reel taken out of use is delivered whole to a WEEE collection point and must not be put in mixed waste. The reel’s copper conductors, metal frame and plastic drum are separated during recycling.
The cardboard packaging goes to cardboard recycling. More information on collection points is available from your local authority’s waste management service or the retailer.
