Description

Blue Dolphin aluminium tape is a technical tape designed especially for demanding installation and sealing work in the HVAC sector (heating, ventilation and air conditioning). The construction of the tape is based on pure aluminium foil, which makes it very resistant to temperature variations, moisture and UV radiation. The product is designed for applications that require absolute vapour tightness and long-lasting fixing.

A key feature of the product is its wide heat resistance, ranging from -30 °C frost up to +120 °C heat. This makes the tape an excellent choice for applications where temperatures rise high, such as sealing ventilation ducts or seaming the insulation of hot water pipework. Thanks to its high heat resistance, the tape is also excellent for seaming the aluminium vapour barrier papers of saunas.

The aluminium foil body of the tape is stiff by nature and dimensionally stable, and it does not flex. This is an important feature in permanent installations, as the tape does not stretch or shrink over time, which ensures that the seam stays tight for years. Because it does not flex, the tape is at its best on flat surfaces, straight seams and overlapping pipe joints. It forms an effective boundary against moisture and air, preventing condensation from forming in insulation.

To make application easier, the tape has a protective layer (liner) made of silicone paper. The liner lets you cut the tape accurately to length and apply it in a controlled way without the strong adhesive surface sticking prematurely to the wrong surfaces. The adhesive is designed to adhere aggressively to metal surfaces, insulation wool and aluminium-faced building materials.

Intended use:

  • Sealing sauna vapour barriers The product’s heat resistance of +120 °C makes it an ideal solution for sauna construction. It is used for airtight sealing of the seams and overlaps of the aluminium paper (vapour barrier) installed in sauna wall and ceiling structures. The dimensionally stable foil construction ensures that the seam does not open even in hot conditions, preventing moisture from getting into the structures of the sauna.

  • Sealing ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) This tape is the first choice of HVAC professionals for sealing joints in ventilation ducts. It is used to ensure the airtightness of ductwork, which is critical for the energy efficiency and operation of the system. As the tape does not flex, it is best suited for straight duct joints and flat surfaces.

  • Seaming insulation materials Blue Dolphin aluminium tape is used for seaming aluminium-faced insulation, such as pipe sections and ventilation mats. The tape forms a continuous metal surface between the insulation pieces, acting as an effective vapour barrier and protecting the insulation from external stress.

Package contents:

  • 1 roll of Blue Dolphin aluminium tape HVAC (width and length according to the selected product)

Features:

  • Temperature resistance: -30°C – +120°C – Allows use in hot applications, such as saunas and ventilation ducts, as well as in cold conditions.

  • Construction: Pure aluminium foil – Acts as a perfect vapour barrier and reflects heat radiation. The material is stiff and does not flex.

  • Dimensional stability: Excellent – The tape does not stretch or shrink with temperature changes, which guarantees a long-lasting, tight seam on flat surfaces.

  • Adhesive: Strong adhesion – Designed for permanent fixing, especially on metal and foil surfaces.

  • Liner (Liner): Silicone paper – Makes handling and application easier, preventing the tape from accidentally sticking to itself.

  • Moisture resistance: Complete water and vapour tightness thanks to the aluminium surface.

Blue Dolphin aluminium tape instructions for use:

1. Surface preparation: Make sure the surface to be taped is completely clean, dry and grease-free. Dust, moisture or oil significantly weaken the adhesion of the adhesive. Wipe the surfaces with a suitable cleaner if necessary and let them dry.

2. Measuring and cutting: Measure the length you need and cut the tape with scissors or a knife. The liner makes cutting and handling easier.

3. Application: As aluminium tape does not flex, it must be aligned accurately right at the start. Peel the liner off the start of the tape and attach it to the seam. Pull the liner away while pressing the tape calmly and evenly against the surface. Avoid creases, as the tape cannot be stretched to straighten them.

4. Securing the fixing: Once the tape is in place, press it firmly onto the substrate along its whole length. Use a plastic spatula or a rag, for example, to achieve maximum contact between the adhesive and the surface. Careful pressing is essential to guarantee a vapour-tight result.

Warnings:

  • Risk of cuts: The edges of aluminium foil are thin and sharp. Wear protective gloves during application to avoid cuts.

  • Does not flex: The tape is made of metal foil and does not stretch. Do not try to stretch the tape over corners or uneven surfaces, as it will tear. The product is best suited for flat surfaces and straight seams.

  • Electrical conductivity: Aluminium conducts electricity. Make sure the tape does not come into contact with live parts.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ):

Is this tape suitable for sauna construction?
Yes. The heat resistance of the tape is up to +120 °C, which is enough for normal sauna conditions. It is commonly used to seal the seams of the aluminium vapour barrier paper of saunas.

Is aluminium tape flexible?
No. The tape is made of pure aluminium foil, which is a stiff, dimensionally stable material. It does not stretch like, for example, cloth duct tapes. This makes it excellent for straight seams that require long-term tightness without stretching.

Does the tape withstand moisture?
Yes, the aluminium surface is fully watertight and acts as an effective vapour barrier. However, it should always be applied to a dry surface to ensure the adhesive adheres.

Recycling instructions:

  • Product: Used aluminium tape contains adhesives, so it is usually sorted as mixed waste (energy fraction). Check local waste management regulations.

  • Liner (Liner): The silicone-coated liner is sorted as mixed waste.

  • Packaging: The cardboard parts of the packaging are sorted for cardboard collection and any plastic wrappers for plastic collection.
