Description
Blue Dolphin PE joining tape is a special product developed to meet the requirements of the construction industry for reliably joining different film materials. It is designed especially for airtight sealing of construction plastics, vapour barriers and insulation films. The main task of the tape is to ensure the tightness and energy efficiency of structures by preventing uncontrolled air flows and moisture from entering structures through the seams. The distinctive blue colour of the tape makes it easier to inspect taped seams visually and control quality on site.
The technical construction of the tape is based on a durable, very flexible polyethylene film (PE), which acts as the backing of the tape. This film is combined with a thick layer of strong synthetic rubber-based adhesive. This type of adhesive is optimised to give aggressive initial adhesion (high tack) and form a strong, permanent bond to typical building materials, especially various plastic surfaces that many other tapes adhere to poorly.
One of the most significant features of the product is its exceptional flexibility and conformability. The elongation at break of the tape is over 200%, which means it stretches considerably before breaking. This feature is critical when taping uneven surfaces, corners or penetrations. The tape follows the shapes of the substrate effortlessly, ensuring tight contact and an intact seam even in challenging spots where a stiffer tape could come loose under tension.
Blue Dolphin PE joining tape is designed to withstand site conditions and the internal stresses of structures. It is moisture resistant, which is an essential feature in vapour barrier applications. The tape keeps working over a wide temperature range (-10°C … +60°C), as long as it has been applied in the recommended conditions. The robust total thickness of 150 microns gives the tape good mechanical durability during application.
Intended use:
- Sealing construction plastics and vapour barriers: The tape is used mainly for taping the joints of overlapped vapour barrier plastics, wind barrier films and other film materials intended for construction. It creates an airtight, durable seam, which is an essential part of the moisture performance and energy efficiency of the building.
- Sealing penetrations and junctions: Thanks to its high flexibility, the tape is excellent for sealing various penetrations through the vapour barrier layer, such as ventilation ducts, electrical cables and HVAC pipes. It can also be used to join the film to other building components, such as a timber or metal frame, ensuring a tight joint.
- Repairing damaged films: The tape works as an effective repair material on site. It can be used to patch holes, cuts or tears in construction plastics quickly and reliably, restoring the integrity and tightness of the film before the structures are closed.

Blue Dolphin joining tape instructions for use:
Surface preparation:
Make sure the surfaces to be taped are completely clean, dry and free of dust, grease, oil or other loose material. Moisture or dirt on the surface prevents the adhesive from adhering properly and puts the tightness of the seam at risk.
Application:
Unroll the tape and align it with the centre of the seam so that it covers both sides of the joint sufficiently. Press the tape firmly onto the substrate along its whole length and width. For the best result, use a spatula or seam roller to ensure maximum pressure and contact between the adhesive and the surface. Take particular care when taping penetrations, corners and uneven spots, using the stretch of the tape to get a tight result. However, avoid stretching the tape too much on straight sections.
Application conditions:
The optimal application temperature is between +10°C and +35°C. Although the tape withstands colder conditions after application, the adhesive adheres less well to cold surfaces at the time of application. If you have to apply it in cool conditions, make sure the surfaces are dry and use enough pressure.
Warnings:
-
Do not use the tape on surfaces that are wet, icy or very dirty, as the adhesive will not adhere to them reliably.
-
This product is not UV-protected for long-term outdoor exposure. Protect taped surfaces from sunlight within a reasonable time after application so that the properties of the tape do not deteriorate.
-
The tape is optimised for joining plastic films. Adhesion to porous materials such as concrete, brick or rough wood may be weaker and may require priming the surface.
-
Always make sure the tape is suitable for the application and materials in question before large-scale use.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Does this tape adhere to wet vapour barrier plastic?
No. The surface must be completely dry and clean for the adhesive to adhere reliably and form an airtight seam. Moisture prevents the adhesive bond from forming.
Can this tape be used outdoors?
The tape is moisture resistant and withstands temperature variations, so it can be used in structures exposed to outdoor conditions. However, it is not UV-protected for long-term direct sunshine, so it should be covered by the structure within a reasonable time.
How flexible is this tape?
The tape is very flexible and conformable. Its elongation at break is over 200%, which means it stretches considerably before breaking. This makes sealing penetrations and corners in particular easier.
Recycling instructions:
-
The core of the tape roll (cardboard) can be recycled in cardboard collection.
-
Used tape with adhesive residue and possibly construction dirt is disposed of as mixed waste (energy fraction).
-
Any packaging plastics are sorted for plastic collection.
