Description
Blue Dolphin Contractor Tape is a protective tape designed for demanding professional use, with a backing of durable LDPE film (low-density polyethylene). Unlike traditional paper-based masking tapes, this plastic tape is fully waterproof, which makes it a superior choice for damp conditions and outdoor use, where rain or moisture can ruin paper tape. The LDPE material also makes the tape very flexible and conformable (elongation at break 400%), so it shapes effortlessly to uneven surfaces, corners and curved shapes, ensuring tight protection.
The tape has a quality solvent-based natural rubber adhesive. This type of adhesive gives reliable adhesion to many kinds of building materials, such as glass, metal, plastic (e.g. vinyl cladding), painted wood and concrete. A significant advantage of the tape is its excellent weather resistance; it withstands UV radiation for up to 60 days outdoors without “baking on” to the substrate. Within the specified time, the tape can be removed cleanly without leaving adhesive residue on the surface.
Thanks to its wide operating temperature range (-10°C … +60°C), the product suits a wide range of site conditions all year round. It withstands temperatures of up to +80°C for short periods. Blue Dolphin LDPE contractor tape is a versatile general-purpose tape for protecting, fixing and patching on construction and renovation jobs.
Intended use:
-
Long-term protection outdoors and in damp rooms The waterproof LDPE film and 60-day UV resistance make this tape ideal for outdoor projects, such as facade renovations, window replacements or treating decks. It protects surfaces from rain, moisture and sun, and comes off cleanly at the end of the project.
-
Protecting uneven and curved surfaces The high flexibility of the tape (400%) lets you stretch and shape it around challenging items, such as pipe penetrations, curved window frames or profiled sheet metal surfaces. It forms a tight “film” over the surface.
-
Protecting glass, metal and plastic The natural rubber adhesive adheres excellently to non-porous materials. The tape is widely used to protect window glass during rendering and painting work, to protect aluminium and steel profiles from scratches and to protect vinyl and PVC surfaces.

Instructions for use:
1. Surface preparation: Make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of dust, grease and oil. Although the tape is waterproof, the best adhesion is always achieved when it is applied to a dry surface.
2. Applying the tape: Unroll the tape. As the LDPE material is very flexible, avoid stretching the tape too much when applying it, unless the shape makes it necessary. Excessive stretching can make the tape pull back later. Press the tape firmly onto the surface to ensure good contact.
3. Cutting: Although the tape can be torn by hand with a brisk tear, a knife or scissors are recommended for the neatest result and a straight edge.
4. Removal: Remove the tape no later than 60 days after application. Pull the tape off the surface calmly at a shallow angle.
Warnings:
-
Excessive stretching: Avoid stretching the tape unnecessarily during application, especially on straight surfaces, as the tape tends to return to its shape, which can make it come loose at the edges.
-
Test first: As with all tapes, test the suitability and removability of the product on a small, inconspicuous area before large-scale use, especially on delicate or old paint surfaces.
-
Application time: Keep to the maximum time of 60 days in outdoor use to avoid adhesive residue.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Does this tape withstand rain?
Yes, the backing of the tape is LDPE plastic, which is fully waterproof. It does not go soggy or break down from moisture like paper tapes. However, it should be applied to a dry surface.
Is the tape flexible?
Yes, very flexible. Its elongation at break is 400%, which means it stretches considerably and conforms excellently to curved and uneven shapes.
How does this differ from ordinary blue masking tape?
The most significant difference is the material. Ordinary blue tape is often UV-protected paper, while this is UV-protected plastic (LDPE). Plastic tape is waterproof and considerably more flexible than paper tape, which makes it more durable in demanding outdoor conditions.
Is this suitable for protecting glass?
Yes, the tape is excellent for protecting glass surfaces, for example during window renovations or facade washing, and it comes off glass cleanly within 60 days.
Recycling instructions:
-
Product: Used plastic tape is classed as mixed waste (energy fraction). It should not be put in plastic collection because of adhesive and dirt residues.
-
Core: The cardboard core of the tape roll can be recycled in cardboard collection.
-
Packaging: Any plastic packaging wrap is recycled in plastic collection and the paper label in paper or cardboard collection.
