Description
Blue Dolphin protective tape Rough is a high-performance professional tape designed especially for protecting challenging, uneven outdoor surfaces. The construction of the tape is based on a durable PE-coated cloth, which makes it fully waterproof and very weather resistant. This tape was developed to solve problems where ordinary masking tapes do not adhere or stay put on rough materials.
The key strength of the product is its aggressive synthetic rubber adhesive, which has very high initial tack (≥ 10 N/25mm). This thick, conformable adhesive layer penetrates the pores and unevenness of rough surfaces, such as brick, concrete, mortar and aggregate-finish render, ensuring a reliable hold even in demanding conditions. The tape withstands wind, moisture and mechanical stress in the site environment.
Blue Dolphin Rough offers excellent 7-day UV resistance. This feature is critical in exterior painting and renovation projects where protection has to be exposed to direct sunlight for several days. Within the specified 7 days, the tape can be removed cleanly without leaving laborious adhesive residues on the surface or tearing when removed. Despite its robust construction, the tape is easy to tear by hand, which speeds up work.
Intended use:
-
Protecting rough facade materials in exterior painting This tape is the first choice when protecting surfaces that border rough materials outdoors. It is excellent for masking window and door frames, trims or other building components against brick, concrete, block or rendered surfaces. The strong adhesion of the tape stops paint creeping under the tape even on an uneven substrate, ensuring neat lines on challenging jobs.
-
Temporary covering of concrete and brick surfaces Blue Dolphin Rough is excellent for situations where the rough surface itself has to be protected, for example from splashes, mortar or other construction dirt during renovation. Its thick adhesive layer and durable backing withstand the stresses of the site and effectively protect the porous material underneath from moisture and dirt.
-
Fixing heavier protective materials outdoors As the tape has exceptionally high bond strength and weather resistance, it can also be used to fix heavier protective materials, such as protective boards, construction plastics or tarpaulins, to rough exterior walls or floors. It holds protection in place even in windy conditions better than ordinary construction tapes.

Blue Dolphin protective tape Rough instructions for use:
1. Surface preparation: Although the tape is designed for rough surfaces, the best adhesion is always achieved on a clean, dry substrate. Remove loose dirt, dust, sand and loose material from the surface, for example by brushing. Make absolutely sure the surface is dry; the tape does not adhere optimally to wet or damp concrete or brick.
2. Applying the tape: Unroll the tape and cut a suitable length by hand or with a knife. Place the tape on the area to be protected. As the surface is rough, the tape must be pressed firmly onto the substrate. Use a rubber roller or spatula, for example, or press with your fingers or palm across the whole width of the tape. This ensures that the thick rubber adhesive penetrates the unevenness of the surface and forms a tight bond.
3. Removal: Remove the tape as soon as the painting work is finished and the paint is touch dry, but no later than 7 days after application outdoors. Pull the tape off calmly and evenly at an angle of about 45 degrees to the surface. If the tape has been on for a long time in cool weather, warming it carefully can make removal easier.
4. Storage: Store tape rolls in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, so that the properties of the adhesive stay unchanged.
Warnings:
-
Exceeding UV resistance: Do not leave the tape outdoors in direct sunlight for more than 7 days. Exceeding this time can cause the adhesive to harden, making the tape harder to remove or leaving adhesive residue on the surface.
-
Delicate surfaces: This tape has a very strong adhesive and is intended for rough surfaces. Avoid using it on delicate surfaces, such as poorly adhering paint, wallpaper or varnished wood, as removal can damage the surface. Always do a test in an inconspicuous spot if you are unsure.
-
Application temperature: Although the tape withstands cold, it is advisable to apply it at temperatures above 0°C to ensure the best initial adhesion. The surface must be free of ice.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Does this tape adhere to wet concrete or brick?
No. Like most tapes, Blue Dolphin Rough needs a dry surface to adhere properly. Moisture on the surface prevents the adhesive from bonding to the substrate.
Can this tape be used indoors?
Yes, it can, especially if there are rough surfaces indoors, such as brick walls or concrete floors, that need strong protection. On smooth indoor surfaces the tape’s adhesive may be unnecessarily strong.
How does this differ from ordinary duct tape (“gaffer tape”)?
This tape is optimised specifically for protecting rough surfaces and clean removal. Ordinary duct tape often leaves awkward adhesive residues in outdoor use, and its UV resistance is not necessarily as good. Blue Dolphin Rough is designed to come off cleanly within 7 days.
Is the tape hard to cut because it is cloth?
No. The construction of the tape is designed so that it is easy to tear across by hand straight from the roll, which makes work quick.
Recycling instructions:
-
Product: Used tape with paint or dirt residues is disposed of as mixed waste (energy fraction).
-
Packaging and core: The cardboard core of the tape roll and any cardboard packaging are recycled in cardboard collection. Plastic wrappers are recycled in plastic collection.
