Description
The Narex “Wood Line Standard” carving chisel is designed to give a reliable, controlled experience in woodcarving and detailed woodworking. The chisels in the range represent traditional European tool design, with the focus on durable materials and a shape that fits the hand. The blade of the chisel is made of special tool steel heat-treated to optimal hardness. This guarantees that the edge holds even during long periods of work, while still allowing easy sharpening when needed.
The handle of the tool is made of lacquered beech, shaped to sit naturally in the palm. The ergonomic shape of the handle allows precise power transfer and a good feel for the workpiece, which is critical in delicate carving work. The joint between the blade and the handle is reinforced with a metal ferrule, which adds to the structural integrity of the tool and stops the handle from splitting under stress.
Intended use:
- Decorative carving: The tool is ideal for detailed decoration and patterning of furniture, decorative objects and wooden structures. It lets you create precise cuts and shapes.
- Restoration: Restoring old wooden objects and furniture often calls for precise material removal or the recreation of original shapes. This chisel is excellent for precise work where machine methods would be too coarse.
- Model making and fine joinery: A tool for shaping and fitting small wooden parts that allows controlled material removal even in tight spots or complex joints.

Narex carving chisel instructions for use:
The carving chisel is intended to be used by hand. Hold the handle firmly with one hand and guide the blade with the other hand close to the cutting surface for maximum precision. Whenever possible, work the wood along the grain or at an angle against the grain to avoid splitting the wood. Do not use a metal hammer to strike the chisel, as it can damage the wooden handle; if necessary, use a wooden or rubber mallet for light blows. Keep the blade sharp by honing it regularly on a water stone or diamond file and finish on leather. Store the tool in a dry place to prevent rust.
Warnings:
The blade is very sharp on delivery. Handle with care to avoid cuts. Never carve towards yourself or hold your hand in front of the workpiece in the direction the blade is travelling. If the tool falls, do not try to catch it in mid-air. Wear safety glasses if there is a risk of wood splinters flying.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Is the chisel ready to use out of the box?
Yes, Narex chisels are supplied pre-sharpened, but for professional precision a light finishing sharpen is recommended before the first demanding job.
How do I protect the blade from rust?
The blade is made of carbon steel, which can rust in damp conditions. Wipe the blade after use with a lightly oiled cloth (e.g. machine oil or camellia oil).
Can the handle be struck with a hammer?
This model is designed for hand use. Light tapping with a wooden mallet is allowed, but using a metal hammer is not recommended because of the risk of damaging the handle.
Recycling instructions:
The metal part of the product can be recycled through metal collection. The wooden handle is energy waste. Separate the parts from each other where possible before recycling.
