Description
The Narex card scraper burnisher 150 mm is an essential special tool for every woodworking professional who uses card scrapers for surface finishing. The primary job of this tool is to “turn” the edge of the scraper, that is, to form a microscopically thin but very sharp burr on it. Without a good burnisher, a card scraper only scratches the surface instead of removing thin, even wood shavings.
The blade part of the burnisher is made of high-quality tool steel, hardened to as much as 61 HRc hardness. This exceptional hardness is critical, as the burnisher must be made of significantly harder material than the scraper being sharpened. The round shape of the blade and its 10 mm diameter allow even pressure to be applied to the edge of the scraper, which ensures that a symmetrical, durable burr forms along the whole length of the blade.
The overall length of the tool is 150 mm, which offers optimal leverage and control during the sharpening process. The ergonomic design and high-quality materials make this Narex tool a long-lasting companion in the workshop. It is excellent for regular maintenance and sharpening of various card scrapers, such as straight and shaped models.
Intended use:
- Turning the burr on card scrapers: In woodworking, a card scraper needs a small hook-like burr on the edge of its blade in order to work. This burnisher is designed specifically for forming this burr by pressing and turning the metal in a controlled way. The user runs the burnisher along the edge of the scraper with firm pressure, changing the angle gradually until the required cutting edge has formed. This process requires high surface hardness from the tool so that it does not wear in use, and Narex’s 61 HRc hardness meets this need perfectly, allowing a very sharp result to be achieved quickly and efficiently on all types of steel card scrapers.
Package contents:
- 1 pcs Narex card scraper burnisher (diameter 10 mm, length 150 mm)
Features:
- High hardness: The 61 HRc hardness guarantees that the tool efficiently turns the edge of even the hardest spring steel card scraper without wearing itself.
- Optimal diameter: The 10 mm diameter spreads the pressure evenly and makes it easier to find and maintain the right sharpening angle.
- Tool steel construction: Made of durable special steel designed to withstand constant mechanical friction and pressure.
- Precision-ground surface: The even, smooth surface ensures that the burnisher does not leave unevenness or nicks on the cutting edge of the scraper.
Technical specifications:
- Length: 150 mm.
- Diameter: 10 mm.
- Material: Tool steel.
- Hardness: 61 HRc.
Narex card scraper burnisher 150 mm instructions for use:
Before sharpening, make sure the edge of the card scraper has been ground completely straight and smooth, for example with a fine file or whetstone. Clamp the scraper firmly in a vice. Hold the Narex burnisher with both hands and place it against the edge of the scraper, at first at a 90-degree angle. Draw the burnisher along the edge several times with even, strong pressure. Then tilt the burnisher slightly (about 5–10 degrees) and repeat the stroke a few times to turn the burr to the required angle. Clean the burnisher after use and store it in a dry place to prevent corrosion. A drop of machine oil can be added to the surface of the blade to reduce friction during sharpening.
Warnings:
- Always wear protective gloves when sharpening, as the edge of the scraper can become very sharp during the process.
- Make sure the workpiece (scraper) is firmly clamped so that the tool does not slip.
- Do not use the tool for other purposes, such as a lever, as hardened steel can break under the wrong kind of load.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Why do I need a separate burnisher for a card scraper?
The cutting edge (burr) of a card scraper is so small and delicate that forming it requires material that is harder than the scraper itself. Narex’s 61 HRc burnisher is designed for exactly this purpose.
How often should a card scraper be sharpened?
A card scraper should be sharpened as soon as it starts to produce fine dust instead of shavings or when the cutting resistance increases noticeably.
Can the burnisher be used for card scrapers of all shapes?
Yes, the round burnishing rod is excellent for sharpening both straight and curved gooseneck-type blades.
Recycling instructions:
Sort the steel part of the product into metal collection. Sort the packaging materials (cardboard and plastic) into the appropriate collection points according to local instructions.
