Description
Kapro spirit level Smarty 946 is a 10 cm pocket spirit level with a cast aluminium body and a machined measuring surface. The measuring accuracy is ±0.5 mm/m, and the vial is calibrated by hand. This size class is intended for short measuring distances where a full-size spirit level does not fit.
The level has one horizontal vial with Kapro’s Optivision design: the vial liquid is red and the edges of the bubble stand out even in dim light and against the light. The vial scale has gradient markings of 1% and 2% in both directions, so the size of a slope is read directly from the scale without separate calculation. The bridge of the horizontal vial is reinforced, which keeps the vial in position under impact.
The body has rare-earth magnets that hold the level on steel and iron surfaces without supporting it by hand. The ends and sides of the body are protected with a rubber coating that cushions the impact of a drop and stops the level from sliding on a smooth surface. A magnetic belt holder is supplied, also with rare-earth magnets, into which the level clicks when it is not in use.
Kapro spirit level Smarty 946 suits plumbing, electrical and furniture installations as well as maintenance work where the object to be measured is short or hard to reach: a device box, the fall of a pipe, a shelf bracket or a machine shop part. Longer straightness measurements require a separate long spirit level, such as the Kapro spirit level Drywall 90cm.
Intended use and suitability:
Kapro spirit level Smarty 946 is intended for checking level and slope over a short measuring distance, especially where the level attaches with its magnets and stays in place during the work.
- Plumbing installations: the 1% and 2% gradient scale shows the fall of a drain or condensate pipe directly on the vial, so no separate inclinometer is needed.
- Electrical installations: the 10 cm length suits aligning device boxes, switches and sockets where a longer level does not sit on the box surface.
- Furniture and shelf installation: the short body sits on a bracket or hinge and the magnets hold it in place while you screw.
- Machine shop and sheet metal work: magnetic attachment to a steel structure frees both hands for positioning the piece.
- Service and installation call-outs: the belt holder keeps the level on your belt, so it is available without opening the tool bag.
Package contents:
- Kapro spirit level Smarty 946, 10 cm
- Magnetic belt holder
Features:
- Optivision vial: red vial liquid with bubble edges that stand out in bright light and in dim conditions.
- Gradient markings 1% and 2%: in both directions, so the size of the slope is read directly from the vial scale.
- Cast aluminium body: the one-piece metal casting keeps the measuring surface straight under impact.
- Machined measuring surface: the flat underside sits directly against the surface being measured.
- Rare-earth magnets: in both the level and the belt holder; the level stays on a steel surface without hand support.
- Rubber-protected ends: cushion the impact of a drop and prevent sliding.
- Reinforced vial bridge: keeps the horizontal vial in position.
- Magnetic belt holder: the level travels on your belt and also sticks to metal surfaces.
- Hand-calibrated vial: accuracy ±0.5 mm/m.

Kapro spirit level Smarty 946 instructions for use:
Level: Clean dust and burrs off the surface to be measured. Place the level with the measuring surface down and read the vial. The object is level when the bubble is centred between the marker lines.
Measuring slope: Place the level on the pipe or surface and read the bubble position relative to the gradient markings. The bubble at the first marker line corresponds to a 1% slope and at the second to a 2% slope; the direction is read from the side the bubble moves to.
Magnetic attachment: Wipe the steel surface clean. Place the level against the surface and slide it into position. Remove the level by sliding it along the surface, not by twisting it.
Checking accuracy: Place the level on a flat surface and mark the bubble position. Turn the level 180 degrees in the same spot and read again. If the bubble position is the same, the level is in order; if the reading changes, the difference is split half and half between the slope of the surface and the deviation of the level.
Belt holder: Attach the holder to your belt and press the level into the holder so that the rubber surfaces sit in the groove of the holder. The holder’s magnets also hold it on a steel surface, for example on a ladder or a machine shop bench.
Maintenance: Wipe the body and the vial window with a dry cloth after use. Remove metal chips from the magnets, as they lift the level off the surface and distort the reading. Store in a dry place away from sharp tools and check the accuracy with the reversal test after a drop.
Warnings:
- The magnets affect pacemakers and other active medical implants, so keep a safe distance.
- The magnets can erase magnetic stripe cards and interfere with electronics; do not store the level near cards or storage media.
- Metal chips and dirt between the magnet and the surface cause incorrect readings.
- Do not use the level as a hammer, lever or wedge; the body and vial will be damaged.
- Do not expose the level to temperatures above 50 °C or to prolonged direct sunlight, as the volume of the vial liquid changes and the reading is distorted.
- Do not use the level on the surface of moving or live equipment.
- Keep out of the reach of children; a detached magnet is dangerous if swallowed.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
How accurate is the Kapro spirit level Smarty 946? The accuracy is ±0.5 mm/m and the vial is calibrated by hand.
What does Optivision mean? Optivision is Kapro’s vial design in which the vial liquid is red and the edges of the bubble are highlighted. The bubble stands out both in bright light and at a dim installation site.
Can the level measure the fall of a pipe? Yes. The vial scale has gradient markings of 1% and 2%, so the size of the slope is read directly from the bubble position.
Does the level stay on a vertical steel surface? Yes, the rare-earth magnets in the body hold the level in place on a clean steel or iron surface, leaving both hands free.
Is the belt holder included? Yes, the magnetic belt holder is included in the pack.
How long is the level? 10 cm (4 inches), so it fits in a trouser pocket and a belt pouch.
How is the accuracy of the level checked? Place the level on a flat surface, mark the bubble position, turn the level 180 degrees in the same spot and read again. The same reading means the level is in order.
Recycling instructions:
Take a discarded Kapro spirit level Smarty 946 to metal collection or a recycling centre: the body is aluminium and the magnets are metal. The vial and rubber parts are attached to the body and do not need to be removed separately. The belt holder is plastic and goes to plastic collection or, because of the magnets, to a recycling centre. Sort cardboard and paper packaging into cardboard collection and plastic film into plastic collection. Do not dispose of the level with mixed waste.
