Description
The Procat 5-metre levelling staff is an essential aid for height measurements in groundworks and foundation work when using rotating levelling lasers. This telescopic staff is made of high-quality anodised aluminium, which makes it extremely light to handle yet resistant to corrosion and site conditions. The staff is designed especially for use with a laser receiver (detector), so one person can easily check levels even at long distances where the laser beam can no longer be seen with the naked eye.
The telescopic mechanism of the staff consists of five sections that slide inside each other and lock in place with firm push buttons. This lets you adjust the length of the staff steplessly all the way up to five metres, while for transport it collapses to a compact length of about 1.2 metres.
Intended use:
The levelling staff is used primarily for determining height differences:
- Groundworks: Checking the depth of excavations and the height of fills.
- Foundation work: Measuring and adjusting the level of plinths and footings.
- Landscaping: Checking falls and levels in drainage and paving.
- Laser measurement: Serves as a base for the laser receiver, which is attached to the staff with a clamp.

Procat levelling staff instructions for use:
Extending: Pull the sections of the staff out one at a time from the bottom up or from the top down as needed, until the locking button clicks audibly into its hole. Always make sure the lock holds.
Measuring with a laser: Attach the laser receiver to the staff with its own bracket. Place the bottom end of the staff on the point to be measured and hold the staff vertical (some models may have a vial/bubble to help). Move the receiver up or down the staff until it indicates that it is level with the laser beam. Read the value at the receiver.
Retracting: Press the locking button in and slide the section in carefully. Take care not to leave your fingers between the sections.
Warnings:
Important safety notes:
- Risk of electric shock: The staff is made of aluminium, which conducts electricity. Never use the staff near power lines (overhead lines). Contact with a live line can be fatal.
- Thunderstorms: Do not use in the open during a thunderstorm.
- Risk of pinching: Mind your fingers when retracting the telescopic sections.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Is the staff waterproof?
Yes, the aluminium and plastic parts withstand water and dirt. However, it is advisable to wipe the staff dry and clean before collapsing it, so that sand does not jam the sliding mechanism.
Recycling instructions:
The product can be recycled:
- Body: Metal collection (aluminium).
- Plastic parts: Energy waste or mixed waste depending on local instructions (often removable from the metal).
