Description

Vorel handsaw 400 mm wooden handle is designed for sawing various wood materials. At the heart of the tool is its 400 mm long, 1 mm thick blade, which gives reach for most crosscutting and ripping tasks. The blade has 8 TPI teeth (eight teeth per inch), which makes it compatible with many wood materials.

A millimetre scale is marked along the top edge of the blade. The scale lets you take quick length measurements and make marks directly on the workpiece without getting out a separate tape measure. The traditionally shaped, closed wooden handle is designed to support and protect the hand while sawing.

Besides natural wood, this saw is also suitable for working many other materials. These include plywood, MDF boards, chipboard and even certain PVC plastic pipes and sheets. The saw needs no power source, so it suits cutting to size and dimensioning structures in places without electricity.

Intended use:

  • Wood construction and joinery: Cutting boards, planks, panels and mouldings and fitting them into larger structures.
  • Cutting boards: Cutting chipboard, plywood and MDF boards to exact dimensions on installation sites.
  • Shortening plastic materials: Cutting PVC pipes, cable trunking and plastic sheets by hand.

Handsaw 400 mm wooden handle instructions for use:

Choose the material to be worked and make sure it is supported on a workbench or in clamps so that it cannot move while you saw. Measure the length to cut using the millimetre scale on the back of the saw and make a starting mark. Start sawing by pulling the saw slowly towards you, so that the blade forms a starting groove. Push and pull the saw over the full length of the blade, keeping the strokes even and guiding the saw in a straight line. Do not press the blade down hard; let the teeth do the cutting under their own weight to stop the 1 mm thick blade from bending. As the cut nears its end, slow down and support the part that is coming loose with your other hand so that the wood does not tear. Clean the blade with a brush after each use. To prevent surface rust on the blade in long-term storage, wipe the metal parts lightly with a cloth moistened with machine oil.

Warnings:

  • The saw teeth are very sharp. Store and handle the tool carefully to avoid cuts.
  • Avoid twisting the saw sideways while sawing, as the metal blade can bend or, at worst, break.
  • Keep the work area clear and always wear suitable eye protection and cut-resistant gloves when working with materials that produce dust or chips.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ):

  • Is the handsaw suitable for cutting metal?: No. The teeth and hardening of the saw are sized only for working wood-based boards, sawn timber and certain plastics. Sawing metal makes the blade unusable immediately.
  • Can I sharpen the blade myself once it is dull?: The teeth of saws of this type are usually induction-hardened after setting, so they cannot be sharpened by hand with a file without changing the tooth shape. When the blade wears out, the tool is replaced with a new one.
  • How do I stop the blade jamming in the wood?: Make sure no extra downward force is used when sawing and that the workpiece is supported so that the kerf cannot close around the blade as the cut progresses.

Recycling instructions:

When taken out of use, the saw is sorted according to its main materials. Unscrew the wooden handle, after which the metal blade and fixing screws can go to metal collection. The wooden handle is sorted as wood waste or energy waste according to regional instructions. The retail or protective packaging of the saw goes to plastic collection.
