Description
The Artu KM tile file 150 mm is a special tool designed for working hard materials such as ceramic tiles, wall tiles, glass and marble. The abbreviation “KM” on the file refers to carbide; the surface of the file is not traditional toothed steel but is coated with extremely hard, wear-resistant carbide grit. This makes the file considerably longer-lasting and more efficient for working hard surfaces than ordinary rasps.
The file’s half-round shape makes it a versatile tool. The flat side is very well suited to levelling straight cut edges and tidying the glaze after a tile cutter. The round side, on the other hand, is indispensable when working curved shapes such as pipe penetrations or when you want to enlarge a drilled hole. The sturdy plastic handle gives a good grip and protects your hand from sharp tile edges while you work.
Intended use:
- Finishing cut edges: Sanding the sharp, jagged edge of a tile cut with a tile cutter or angle grinder neat and safe.
- Filing shapes: Fine-tuning curved cuts (e.g. around a toilet or drainpipe) that a straight file cannot reach.
- Enlarging holes: Enlarging or shaping a hole that was drilled too small, using the round side.

Instructions for use:
Hold the tile firmly or clamp it to the workbench. Always file the edge of the tile away from the glazed side (from top to bottom or pushing forward), so that the glaze does not chip. Use calm, even strokes. When using the round side, rotate the file slightly as you push so that the sanding pattern is even. Clean the file after use by tapping off loose dust or with a soft brush; do not use a wire brush, so that the grit coating is not damaged.
Warnings:
Always wear safety glasses when filing, as sharp chips or slivers of glaze can come off the tiles. The carbide surface is very coarse and can abrade skin quickly, so take care not to hit your hands.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Can this file metal?
The product is designed primarily for ceramic and stone materials. Filing soft metals can clog the grit surface.
Does the surface wear quickly?
No, carbide grit is extremely durable. Used correctly, the file lasts for years in occasional renovation use.
Why is half-round better than flat?
Half-round is more versatile, because it can work both straight edges and inside curves and holes where a flat file does not fit.
Recycling instructions:
The product is mixed material (metal and plastic). At the end of its life, it is usually disposed of as mixed waste or in metal collection (if the handle can be removed or the facility accepts composite parts).
