Description

Mikov children’s scissors are 15 cm craft scissors with a rounded blade tip. The rounded tip removes the risk of a puncture injury that a sharp tip creates when the scissors are dropped or carried in the hand. Cutting is based on the scissor action of two stainless steel jaws around a riveted joint.

The blade length is 5 cm and the overall length 15 cm. The short blade shortens the travel of each cutting stroke and keeps the cutting point close to the hand, making it easier for a child to follow a drawn line. The overall length is sized for a small hand: the thumb and finger loops are closer together than on adult general-purpose scissors.

A centimetre scale of 1–4 cm is printed on the blade. The scale serves as a rough measure in craft work when a strip is estimated without a separate ruler. It is intended for estimating, not for precise work.

The handles are blue unbreakable plastic. The plastic insulates the fingers from the metal and gives the loops a rounded shape that does not press on the fingers while cutting. The scissors are suitable for cutting paper, card and light fabrics. The adult models in the Mikov family are Mikov all-purpose scissors 14 cm Comfort stainless steel and Mikov all-purpose scissors 22 cm comfort stainless steel.

Intended use and suitability:

The scissors are intended for children over 3 years for cutting thin and flexible materials under adult supervision.

  • Paper and card: craft paper, coloured paper, thin card and magazine pictures; the short blade follows a drawn outline accurately.
  • Light fabrics: felt, thin cotton fabric and decorative ribbon in craft projects.
  • School and nursery work: cutting out pictures, cutting templates and collage work in a supervised setting.
  • Measuring crafts: the 1–4 cm scale on the blade helps estimate the width of a strip without a ruler.
  • Fine motor skills practice: the rounded tip and short blade make practising the cutting movement safer than with sharp-tipped scissors.

Package contents:

  • 1 pair of children’s scissors with safety tip, 15 cm

Features:

  • Rounded safety tip: removes the risk of a puncture injury when dropped or carried.

  • Centimetre scale 1–4 cm: printed on the blade, a rough measure in craft work.
  • Unbreakable plastic handle: the blue handle insulates the fingers from the metal and withstands being dropped.
  • Stainless steel jaws: the scissor action around the riveted joint cuts paper and thin fabric.

Technical specifications:

  • Overall length: 15 cm.
  • Blade length: 5 cm.
  • Tip: rounded safety tip.
  • Blade material: stainless steel.
  • Handle material: unbreakable plastic, blue.
  • Scale: 1–4 cm, printed on the blade.

Mikov children’s scissors with safety tip instructions for use:

Before use: Check that the blades are undamaged, the riveted joint is tight and the handle has no cracks. An adult must supervise the use of the scissors.

Grip: Thumb in the upper loop, index and middle fingers in the lower one. Keep the wrist straight and the scissors perpendicular to the surface being cut.

Cutting: Open the jaws and push the material all the way to their base. Cut with a smooth movement along the full length of the blade and keep the free hand out of the path of the blades. On a curved line, turn the paper, not the scissors.

Handing over: Always hand the scissors to another person with the jaws closed and the handle first. Carry the scissors tip down, and never run with them.

Cleaning and storage: Wipe the blades with a dry cloth after use, especially after glue and tape. Store the scissors in a dry place, out of the reach of children when they are not being used under supervision.

Warnings:

  • Age recommendation: over 3 years. A child may use the scissors only under adult supervision.
  • The rounded tip does not remove the risk of cuts: the cutting edge of the blades causes a wound if a finger gets caught between the jaws.
  • The scissors are not a toy. Do not run or play with the scissors.
  • Hand over the scissors handle first and with the jaws closed.
  • Do not cut hard materials such as metal, wire or thick plastic; the blade chips and a fragment may fly off.
  • Stop using scissors with a chipped blade or a broken handle.
  • A loosened rivet is a small part and a choking hazard. Check the riveted joint regularly.
  • Keep the scissors out of the reach of children and pets when they are not being used under supervision.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ):

Are Mikov children’s scissors safe without supervision? No. The rounded tip removes the risk of a puncture injury, but the cutting edge of the blades still cuts. Use always requires adult supervision.

What does safety tip mean? The tip of the blades is rounded instead of a sharp point, so the scissors do not pierce the skin when dropped or carried in the hand.

What is the centimetre scale on the blade for? It is an estimating measure for craft work: the width of a strip or the length of a piece to be cut can be estimated without a ruler. It is not a measuring instrument for precise measurements.

What materials can the scissors cut? Paper, card, thin felt and light fabrics. Metal, wire, thick plastic and the corrugated board of cardboard boxes damage the blade.

Can the scissors be sharpened? The blades are short and carry a printed scale that would wear off in sharpening. Instead of sharpening, replace blunt scissors with new ones.

Are the scissors suitable for left-handed users? The loops are symmetrical, but the cutting direction of the blades is right-handed: when cutting with the left hand, the cutting line is harder to see. Choose left-handed scissors for a left-handed user.

What should I do if the rivet loosens? An adult tightens the rivet a quarter turn at a time. If the rivet no longer holds, stop using the scissors.

Recycling instructions:

Scissors at the end of their life go to metal collection, as the blades and the rivet are metal. The plastic handles do not need to be removed if the collection point accepts mixed metal; otherwise, put the scissors in mixed waste. Cover the cutting edges before disposal. Sort the packaging into cardboard and plastic collection.

Tuote on tarkoitettu yli 3-vuotiaan lapsen käyttöön aikuisen valvonnassa.

Aikuisen valvonta on tuotteen keskeinen suojatoimi.

GPSR document:

This document covers the information required for the product Mikov Lasten sakset turvakärjellä under the EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR, (EU) 2023/988):

Identification

Product: Mikov Lasten sakset turvakärjellä (children’s craft scissors with rounded safety tip)
Brand: Mikov
Manufacturer item number: 21603001
Model designation: 1405
EAN: 8595004325256
Overall length: 15 cm
Blade length: 5 cm
Blade: stainless steel, printed 1–4 cm scale
Handle: shatterproof plastic, blue

Intended use

Cutting thin and flexible materials by hand in craft, school and kindergarten work: paper, card, thin felt and light fabrics. The product is intended for use by children over 3 years of age under adult supervision. The scissors are not a toy. They are not intended for cutting metal, wire, thick plastic, corrugated cardboard, hair or nails.

Warnings for children and pets

Age recommendation: over 3 years. The scissors are not a toy. A child may use the scissors only under adult supervision. The rounded tip eliminates the risk of puncture wounds, but the cutting edges of the blades can still cause a cut if a finger gets between the jaws. Always hand the scissors over handle first with the jaws closed; do not run or play with them. If the rivet joint loosens or the handle breaks, a loose rivet or plastic fragment is a small part that presents a choking hazard. Store the scissors in a dry place out of the reach of children and pets when they are not being used under supervision.

Instructions and safety information

Before each use check that the blades are intact, the rivet joint is tight and the handle has no cracks. Place the thumb in the upper loop and the index and middle fingers in the lower loop; keep the wrist straight and the scissors perpendicular to the surface being cut. Push the material to the root of the jaws and cut with an even movement along the full length of the blade, keeping the free hand outside the path of the blades. When cutting a curved line, turn the paper, not the scissors. Do not cut hard materials. Wipe the blades with a dry cloth after use, especially after glue and tape. An adult tightens a loose rivet a quarter turn at a time. Do not use scissors with a chipped blade or a broken handle.

Operation and protective measures

Cutting is based on the scissor action of two stainless steel jaws around a rivet joint: the jaws pass each other closely and cut the material between them. As protective measures, the tips of the blades are rounded so that the scissors do not pierce the skin if dropped or carried, and the blade length is limited to 5 centimetres, which shortens each cutting stroke and keeps the cutting point under control. The plastic handle insulates the fingers from the metal and gives the loops a round shape that does not press on the finger. Adult supervision is the key protective measure for the product. The product has no electrical parts.

Environmental conditions

Use and store in a dry indoor space at room temperature. The blades are made of stainless steel; dry the scissors after use if they get wet. Avoid heat, open flames and strong solvents: the plastic handle can be damaged and the scale printed on the blade can fade.

Risk assessment

Cut injury: finger between the blades or in the cutting line – controlled with the correct grip, keeping the free hand outside the path of the blades and adult supervision. Puncture injury: falling with the scissors in hand – the risk is reduced by design with the rounded safety tip and by instructions for carrying and handing over. Blade chipping and flying fragments: cutting hard materials – controlled by the material restrictions. Choking and puncture hazard: loose rivet or a fragment of a broken handle – controlled by checking the rivet joint and taking damaged scissors out of use. Unsupervised use: a child gets hold of the scissors without an adult – controlled by storing them out of the reach of children.

GPSR-i dokument:

Käesolev dokument sisaldab teavet, mida ELi üldine tooteohutusmäärus (GPSR, (EL) 2023/988) toote Mikov Lasten sakset turvakärjellä kohta nõuab:

Identifitseerimisandmed

Toode: Mikov Lasten sakset turvakärjellä (laste meisterduskäärid ümardatud ohutu otsaga)
Kaubamärk: Mikov
Tootja tootekood: 21603001
Mudeli tähis: 1405
EAN: 8595004325256
Kogupikkus: 15 cm
Tera pikkus: 5 cm
Tera: roostevaba teras, trükitud 1–4 cm skaala
Käepide: purunematu plast, sinine

Kasutusotstarve

Õhukeste ja painduvate materjalide käsitsi lõikamine meisterdamisel, koolis ja lasteaias: paber, kartong, õhuke vilt ja kerged kangad. Toode on mõeldud üle 3-aastastele lastele kasutamiseks täiskasvanu järelevalve all.

Laps tohib kääre kasutada ainult täiskasvanu järelevalve all.

Täiskasvanu järelevalve on toote peamine kaitsemeede. Tootel ei ole elektrilisi osi.

Keskkonnatingimused
