Description
Kapro 379 surface moisture meter is a digital measuring device based on pin sensor technology, designed for determining the moisture content of wood and various building materials and the surface temperature. The measuring accuracy of the device is ±0.50%, and it uses 10 mm long sensor pins to read the moisture level of the surface layer of the material.
The device has 8 separate calibration scales that let the measurement results be optimised precisely for different wood species and porous building materials such as plasterboard and hardboard. The integrated temperature sensor allows the temperature of the surroundings and the measured object to be monitored in Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F), which supports reliable analysis of moisture values in different conditions.
The construction is protected by an impact-resistant body and rubberised grip surfaces that ensure a firm grip in industrial and site conditions. The green backlit LCD screen allows readings to be viewed clearly in dim spaces. The sensor pins are protected for transport and storage by a removable protective cap and rubber plugs.
The measuring functions are supported by a Data Hold function that locks the measured value on the screen to make reading easier in cramped installation spots. An automatic power-off function optimises battery life, and the device runs on two standard AAA batteries. The total weight is 145 g and the external dimensions are 200 × 75 × 40 mm.
Intended use and suitability:
The device is used for checking the relative moisture and temperature of materials before further processing, coating or installation.
- Moisture measurement of timber and sawn timber: Suitable for verifying the moisture level of wood materials with the 8 calibration scales before joinery work stages, sawing, drying or epoxy castings, where excessive moisture prevents adhesion or causes structural damage.
- Moisture mapping of building boards: Suitable for quick checks of the surface moisture of plasterboard, hardboard and other porous building materials during structural and filling work.
- Monitoring surface temperature and conditions: With the built-in temperature sensor, the device is suitable for measuring the temperature of materials and work spaces when applying temperature-dependent coatings and adhesives.

Kapro 379 surface moisture meter instructions for use:
1. Preparation and switching on: Remove the removable protective cap and rubber protective plugs from the pins. Switch the device on with the power button. Choose the calibration scale (1–8) that suits the wood species or material being measured with the selection button of the device.
2. Taking a measurement: Push the 10 mm sensor pins evenly into the surface of the material being measured. Read the moisture percentage and temperature from the screen. If the screen cannot be read directly at the measuring point, press the Data Hold button to lock the reading before removing the pins.
3. Maintenance and storage: Clean the measuring pins with a dry cloth after use. Put the rubber plugs and protective cap back over the pins to prevent damage. Store the device in a dry place and remove the AAA batteries if the device will not be used for a long time.
Warnings:
- Sharp sensor pins: The sensor pins are sharp and can cause puncture wounds; always keep the protective cap in place when the device is not in use.
- Risk of electric shock: Do not push the pins into live electrical structures, cables or concealed electrical wires.
- Mechanical stress: Do not twist the device or strike it with a hammer to help it penetrate the material, as this can damage the pins and the internal electronics.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
What is the measuring accuracy of the Kapro 379 surface moisture meter in wood materials?
The measuring accuracy of the device is ±0.50% when the calibration scale correctly chosen for the object is used in the measurement.
How deep into the material does the Kapro 379 measure moisture?
The measurement is based on the 10 mm long sensor pins of the device, which react to the relative moisture of the surface layer of the material to the penetration depth of the pins.
What power source does the Kapro 379 surface moisture meter use?
The device runs on two standard AAA batteries and has an automatic power-off to save the batteries.
Recycling instructions:
Recycle the retail packaging of the product (cardboard) in cardboard collection. A discarded measuring device is waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and must be taken to a suitable WEEE collection point. Take empty AAA batteries to battery collection.
