Description
The Procat leather apron is a full-length bib apron made of genuine leather that covers the wearer’s front from chest to knees. The apron measures 80 x 47 cm (length x width). The leather protects the clothing underneath from sparks, chips, splashes, dirt and abrasion in metal grinding and cutting, woodwork and forge work.
The apron is made of genuine leather with a brown, suede-like, rough surface. The leather is sewn from several pieces: a vertical centre seam runs down the bib and the skirt, and a horizontal seam runs across the waist. The seams are stitched with light-coloured thread, and the centre and horizontal seams have double stitching.
The apron hangs from the neck on a black woven fabric strap that is riveted to both upper corners of the bib. Riveted waist ties at the sides of the waist are tied behind the back. The bib narrows at the top into curved armholes, so the shoulders and arms move freely.
On the chest there is a leather chest pocket with rivet-reinforced upper corners and a PROCAT print on the front. The pocket holds a pen, marking chalk or a small tape measure. There are also rivets at the ends of the horizontal seam, so the most stressed points of the apron are reinforced.
Unlike synthetic fabrics, leather does not melt from sparks, and it withstands abrasion, dirt and chips. This makes the apron suitable for metal grinding and cutting, forge and maintenance work, woodwork, leatherwork and barbecuing.
Intended use and suitability:
The leather apron is suitable for work where the front of the clothing is exposed to sparks, chips, splashes, dirt or abrasion.
- Metal grinding and cutting: When grinding and cutting with an angle grinder, the apron protects the front of the clothing from sparks, chips and grinding dust. Also protect the eyes, face and hands with protective equipment intended for the work.
- Forge and blacksmith work: When forging and heating metal, the leather catches scale, sparks and forge soot before they reach the clothing.
- Woodwork and workshop: When sawing, planing and sanding, the apron keeps chips and sawdust off the clothing, and the chest pocket keeps a pen and marking chalk within reach.
- Maintenance and repair work: In machine repair shops, property maintenance and the garage, the apron protects clothing from oil splashes, grease and dirt.
- Barbecuing and smoking: The leather protects clothing from grease splashes, sparks and sooty barbecue equipment.
- Leatherwork and crafts: When cutting, riveting and dyeing leather, the apron protects clothing from dyes, glue and abrasion.
Items that complete the work outfit include the Yato T-shirt black 180g/m2 100% cotton under the apron, the Laatu fitter’s glove 4131X 15 ga hard-wearing for maintenance and installation work and the Vorel reflective vest yellow EN ISO 20471 for yard and traffic areas.

Procat leather apron instructions for use:
- Putting on: Slip the neck strap over your head so that the chest pocket sits at chest height and the PROCAT print faces outwards.
- Fastening: Take the waist ties behind your back and tie them with a tight knot. Tuck the ends of the ties under the knot so they do not hang loose.
- Check before work: Check that the leather has no holes or burnt spots and that the rivets and seams are intact.
- During work: Brush off hot particles and spark residue that land on the leather straight away. Keep the apron well away from open fire and flames.
- Cleaning: Brush off dust, chips and dried dirt with a soft brush and wipe stains lightly with a damp cloth. Do not wash the apron in a washing machine.
- Drying: Hang a damp apron to dry at room temperature. Do not dry it next to a radiator, sauna stove or forge, because fast drying hardens and cracks the leather.
- Leather care: Treat dried-out, stiff leather with leather conditioner from time to time. Let the conditioner soak in completely and wipe off any excess before using the apron for work that produces sparks.
- Storage: Store the apron hanging in a dry place.
Warnings:
- Not personal protective equipment: The apron is not personal protective equipment: it has not been tested or certified to protect against heat, flames or molten metal splashes. It protects the front of the clothing from sparks, chips, splashes and dirt.
- Does not replace other protective equipment: Protect the eyes, face, hands and neck with the protective equipment the work requires.
- Molten metal: Do not use the apron for work that involves splashes of molten metal, such as casting work.
- Leather can burn: Leather is not fireproof indefinitely. A hot object, a continuous shower of sparks or a flame chars the leather and can burn through it. Keep the apron away from open fire.
- Oil and solvents: Leather soaked in oil, grease or solvents ignites more easily. Clean or replace a soiled apron before hot work.
- Rotating machinery: The ties and the hem can get caught in rotating machines such as lathes, pillar drills or angle grinders. Knot the ties tightly and keep the ends short.
- Fabric straps: The neck strap and waist ties are made of fabric. Keep them out of the path of sparks and hot particles.
- Wear: Inspect the apron regularly. Holes, burns, thinning or tears in the apron, or loose rivets or seams, are a reason to take the apron out of use.
Frequently asked questions, FAQ:
What are the dimensions of the Procat leather apron?
The apron is 80 cm long and 47 cm wide. Hung from the neck, it covers the front of the body from chest to knees.
Can the leather apron be used outdoors in the rain?
The apron can be used for outdoor work, but leather absorbs moisture. Hang a wet apron to dry at room temperature, not next to a heat source, and treat the dried leather with leather conditioner to keep it supple.
Can the leather apron be washed in a washing machine?
No. Water and detergents dry out and harden the leather. Clean the apron by brushing, wipe stains with a damp cloth and dry a damp apron at room temperature.
How is the apron adjusted for users of different sizes?
The waist ties are knotted behind the back, and the tightness of the knot fits the apron to the body. The neck strap supports the bib.
What can I put in the chest pocket?
The pocket holds a pen, marking chalk, a small tape measure and similar small items. Do not keep lighters or matches in the pocket during hot work.
Is the leather apron suitable for barbecuing?
Yes. The leather protects clothing from grease splashes, sparks and sooty barbecue equipment. Keep the apron away from flames and do not use it to handle hot grates or cookware.
