Description
Procat snap-off knife 25 mm is a snap-off knife with a screw lock. Its 25 mm wide snap-off blade is locked with a turning knob on top of the body. The knife is designed for straight cuts and for cutting through cardboard, plasterboard face paper, vinyl flooring, films and packaging materials.
The snap-off blade has evenly spaced transverse score lines pressed into it. When the tip goes blunt, the outermost segment is snapped off along the score line to expose a new sharp tip. This way one blade gives several sharp tips before the whole blade is replaced.
The blade is locked with a screw lock. A black knob with a ribbed edge moves the blade along the channel in the body. When the knob is turned tight, the blade is clamped steplessly at the required length. Once tightened, the screw lock holds the blade in place even when stiff material is cut with force.
The 25 mm blade is wider and stiffer than 9 mm and 18 mm snap-off blades, so it bends less on long strokes and in thick materials. The red body shell has dark cross-ribbed grip surfaces where the palm and thumb rest. The blade exit is guided by a metal nose piece.
The Procat snap-off knife 18 mm with slide lock from the same range is a narrower and lighter model with a blade adjusted by a slider. The 25 mm screw-lock model is better suited to jobs where the cutting force is high and the blade must stay exactly in place.
Uses and suitability:
The wide snap-off blade and the tightening lock make this a general-purpose knife for construction, renovation and warehouse work. A worn blade can be replaced with a 25 mm snap-off blade, for example the Procat snap-off spare blade pack 5 pcs / pack.
- Cutting plasterboard: Score the face paper against a ruler or a straight board, snap the board along the cut and cut through the back paper. The stiff 25 mm blade stays straight over a long stroke.
- Cardboard and packaging materials: Cutting corrugated cardboard, cardboard boxes, bubble wrap and strapping. Set the blade length to the thickness of the material so that the cut does not reach the contents of the box.
- Floor coverings and carpets: Cutting vinyl flooring, cork backing, underlays and wall-to-wall carpet against a straight guide. The screw lock stops the blade from being pushed back into the body when you cut with pressure.
- Films, tapes and protective plastics: Cutting construction plastic sheeting, protective cardboard, masking tape and protective films in installation and painting work.
- Insulation and sheet materials: Cutting thin insulation boards, foam plastic boards and card, with the blade extended only as far as needed.

Procat snap-off knife 25 mm instructions for use:
Always extend the blade only as far as the material being cut requires, and tighten the lock before cutting.
- Adjusting the blade: Turn the knob to release the lock. Push the knob forward until the blade is out as far as needed. Tighten the knob.
- Cutting: Place the material on a firm surface, guide the blade against a ruler or a straight board and draw the knife away from your body with even pressure.
- Plasterboard: Score the face paper with one or two strokes, snap the board along the cut and cut the back paper at the fold.
- Snapping off a blunt tip: Push out one segment, grip it with pliers or the blade snapping slot and snap the segment off along the score line, away from yourself. Put the snapped-off piece in a closable container.
- Changing the blade: When the segments have been used, release the lock, remove the worn blade from the channel in the body and fit a new 25 mm snap-off blade. Tighten the lock before use.
- Storage and care: Retract the blade fully into the body and tighten the lock. Wipe the blade and the channel in the body clean of adhesive, plaster dust and moisture.
Warnings:
- Sharp blade: Always cut away from your body and keep your other hand out of the blade’s path.
- Lock tightened: Do not cut with the lock released; a loose blade can be pushed into the body or slide out in the middle of a stroke.
- Snap-off segments: Snap off segments with pliers or the blade snapping slot, not with your fingers. Wear safety glasses, because a piece that breaks off can fly out.
- Prying: Do not use the blade as a lever, screwdriver or scraper; a snap-off blade breaks at the score lines under sideways load.
- Gloves: A cut-resistant glove reduces the risk of cut injuries during long cutting jobs.
- Children: Keep the knife out of the reach of children with the blade retracted.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
What is the Procat snap-off knife 25 mm best suited for?
Heavy-duty cutting work, such as cutting plasterboard, cardboard, vinyl flooring and thick packaging materials, where the blade must stay in place when force is applied.
What is the difference between a screw lock and a slide lock?
On the Procat 25 mm snap-off knife with screw lock, the lock is tightened by turning the knob. The screw lock holds the blade steplessly at any point. With a slide lock, the blade is moved with a slider, which is quicker but less secure in heavy cutting.
Which blade fits the Procat 25 mm snap-off knife?
The Procat 25 mm snap-off knife takes a standard-size 25 mm wide snap-off blade, for example the 25 mm blade from the Procat snap-off spare blade pack.
How is a blunt tip removed safely?
Push the blade of the Procat 25 mm snap-off knife out by one segment, grip the segment with pliers or the blade snapping slot and snap it off along the score line, away from yourself. Wear safety glasses.
Can the blade be left extended when you are not cutting?
No. When you put the Procat 25 mm snap-off knife down, retract the blade into the body and tighten the screw lock.
