Description
Procat fretsaw frame 300 mm is a traditional hand fretsaw for precise crafts and scroll sawing. The depth of the frame is 300 mm and it takes a 130 mm long fretsaw blade. The frame is steel and one blade is included in the pack.
The fretsaw frame is a deep U-shaped steel frame, and the thin blade is tensioned between its open ends. The spring of the frame keeps the blade taut, so the narrow blade stays straight and turns into tight curves and corners while sawing. The handle is at the lower end of the blade and the tensioning mechanism is at the ends of the frame.
The depth of the frame determines how far from the edge of a board you can saw. A deep U-frame gives room for handling a board-type workpiece when the pattern is far from the edge. A thin blade makes a narrow kerf, so patterns and internal openings can be sawn accurately along a drawn line.
The frame takes 130 mm fretsaw blades, such as Procat fretsaw blade fine 12 pcs (24 TPI) for a neat finish in thin material and Procat fretsaw blade coarse 12 pcs (14 TPI) for faster sawing in thicker plywood, wood and plastic.
Procat fretsaw frame 300 mm: intended use and suitability:
The fretsaw frame is intended for hand sawing patterns, shapes and internal openings in thin board-type materials.
- Crafts: Sawing wood and plywood parts for crafts, decorations and scale models, where the pieces are small and the shapes precise.
- Scroll sawing: Sawing curved and complex patterns along a drawn line in thin plywood and wood board.
- Internal openings: One end of the blade is released and threaded through a hole drilled in the workpiece, so the opening can be sawn without breaking the edge.
- Plastic: Shaping thin plastic sheets with a coarse-toothed blade, whose large tooth gaps clear the chips.
- Teaching and crafts: The hand fretsaw is suitable for practising basic woodworking techniques without power tools.
Package contents:
- Fretsaw frame 300 mm: 1 pc, with wooden handle.
- Fretsaw blade 130 mm: 1 pc, fitted to the frame.
Features:
- Steel frame: The deep U-shaped steel frame keeps the blade taut and leaves room for handling the board.
- Frame depth 300 mm: Allows sawing far from the edge of the workpiece.

- Blade tensioning: Clamps at the ends of the frame keep the blade in place and taut.
- Wooden handle: The handle is at the lower end of the blade, so the sawing movement is vertical.

Procat fretsaw frame 300 mm instructions for use:
1. Turning the handle: Turn the handle the right way round if it is still in the transport position.
2. Fitting the blade: Attach the blade to one end of the frame so that the teeth point towards the handle; the saw then cuts on the pull stroke. Squeeze the frame together slightly, attach the other end of the blade and release the frame. The blade should be taut. If necessary, tighten the wing nuts with pliers.
3. Internal opening: Drill a hole inside the opening, release one end of the blade, thread the blade through the hole and reattach it under tension.
4. Sawing: Clamp the workpiece firmly, for example to the edge of a table. Saw with long, even strokes with the blade vertical and let the teeth do the work without much pressure. On tight curves, turn the workpiece, not the blade.
5. Care and storage: Release the blade tension when the saw is not in use. Replace a blunt or broken blade. Store the saw in a dry place.
Warnings:
- Sharp teeth: Keep your fingers away from the cutting line and handle the blades with care.
- Breaking blade: A taut blade can break and fly off; wear safety glasses and do not twist the blade while sawing.
- Securing the workpiece: Clamp the piece or support it on the edge of a table before sawing.
- Children: Keep the saw and blades out of the reach of children; children may use it only under adult supervision.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
What length of blades does the Procat fretsaw frame 300 mm use? The frame takes 130 mm long fretsaw blades, for example Procat fretsaw blade fine 12 pcs or Procat fretsaw blade coarse 12 pcs.
Which blade should I choose, fine or coarse? The fine 24 TPI blade gives a neat finish in thin plywood and wood. The coarse 14 TPI blade saws faster in thicker plywood, wood and plastic.
Is a blade included in the delivery? Yes, one blade is included in the pack.
Which way are the blade teeth fitted? The teeth point towards the handle, so the saw cuts on the pull stroke and the blade stays taut.
What does a frame depth of 300 mm mean in use? The deep frame gives room for the workpiece, so patterns can be sawn further from the edge of the board.
Recycling instructions:
The steel-framed fretsaw and used blades are sorted for metal collection; remove the wooden handle if necessary and sort it as energy waste. Protect sharp blades with tape or by wrapping them in paper before putting them in the collection bin. The packaging is sorted by material for cardboard collection.
