Using the tool correctly ensures that the retraction mechanism works and maximises safety at work. Take a firm grip on the handle with your thumb resting on the slider. Push the slider forward against the resistance of the tension spring to expose the full length of the blade.
Place the blade on the material to be cut and start the cut. Once the blade is in contact with the material, you can release your thumb from the slider; friction keeps the blade out during the cut. As soon as the blade leaves the material, the automatic spring mechanism pulls the blade straight back into the handle, minimising the risk of cuts.
To change the blade, push the slider fully forward and release the locking catch required by the blade lock design. Pull out the dull blade and put a new SK4 blade in place. Make sure the mechanism locks and test the spring action without cutting before the next cut.
