Description
The Schwan grout float is designed for demanding professional use, offering efficiency and precision in the grouting stage of tiling work. This “Made in Germany” quality tool stands out especially for its large 360 x 120 mm working area, which significantly speeds up working large tiled surfaces. The body of the tool is made of durable plastic, which makes it light to handle yet rigid enough to apply even pressure.
The key feature of the grout float is its high-quality cellular rubber surface. This 7 mm thick rubber layer is flexible but firm. The structure of cellular rubber allows grout to be pressed efficiently deep into the tile joints, ensuring a tight, durable result. The flexibility of the material helps the rubber adapt to small unevenness and joints of different widths, guaranteeing an even fill over the whole area being treated.
The gentleness of the tool is particularly important when working with delicate surfaces such as glazed wall tiles, natural stone or polished tiles. The soft cellular rubber surface of the Schwan grout float is designed so that it does not scratch or damage the surface of the installed tiles during grouting. This feature, combined with efficient grout application, makes it a reliable choice for high-quality tiling projects.
Intended use:
This grout float is intended primarily for professional use in grouting various tile surfaces. Its features serve best in the following jobs:
- Ceramic tiles and wall tiles: The most common use, where the large size of the float allows fast application of cement-based grouts on walls and floors. The cellular rubber ensures that the grout sinks to the bottom of the joint.
- Natural stone and sensitive surfaces: The softness of the cellular rubber surface is a critical factor when working with materials that scratch easily. The float glides over the surface without damaging the stone or glaze.
- Large floor areas: The 360 mm width of the product is optimised for efficient work on large numbers of square metres, reducing working time compared with smaller floats.
- Initial grout cleaning: The tool can also be used to remove excess grout from the tile surface immediately after application by holding the float at a steeper angle, which makes the actual washing stage easier.

Schwan grout float instructions for use:
For the best result, make sure the tiling is clean and the tile adhesive has dried. Mix the grout to the right consistency according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Take grout with the grout float and spread it on the tile surface. Press the grout into the joints by moving the float diagonally across the joints. This ensures that the joints fill completely and stops the float digging grout up out of the joint. Use enough force so that the grout fills the joint to the bottom.
When the joints are full, remove excess grout from the tile surface by holding the grout float at almost 90 degrees to the tile surface and drawing it diagonally across the surface. Aim to leave the tile surface as clean as possible. Let the grout set for the time given in the instructions before the actual washing with a sponge. Clean the grout float carefully with water immediately after use so that the grout cannot dry on the rubber surface.
Warnings:
Do not let grout, especially fast-setting or epoxy-based grouts, dry on the surface of the grout float, as it can permanently ruin the rubber part of the tool. Avoid using sharp objects to clean the tool, so that the cellular rubber surface is not damaged. Always check the grout manufacturer’s instructions on the suitability of tools, especially for special grouts.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Why does this float have a cellular rubber surface?
Cellular rubber is a flexible material, which helps press grout tightly into the joint. It is also softer than solid rubber, which significantly reduces the risk of scratching tile surfaces.
Is this float suitable for epoxy grouting?
Cellular rubber floats are generally suitable for many grouts. With epoxy grouting, however, particular care must be taken and the tool cleaned immediately, as dried epoxy is very difficult to remove.
How is the tool cleaned?
The tool should be washed with plenty of water immediately after use, before grout residue has time to harden on the rubber or plastic parts.
Recycling instructions:
The product consists of a plastic body and a rubber part. If the parts can be separated, recycle the plastic body in plastic collection and the rubber part as mixed waste or according to local instructions. If the parts cannot be separated, dispose of the whole product as mixed waste.
