Description
The Schwan wooden axe handle is a high-quality spare part designed for demanding professional use and tool maintenance. This “Made in Germany” product is a reliable solution for replacing a damaged or worn axe handle, restoring the tool to full working order and extending its life.
The handle is made of selected ash. Ash is traditionally the first-choice material for the handles of striking tools because of its excellent mechanical properties; it combines the stiffness needed for power transfer with toughness, which helps dampen the shock transmitted to the hands from blows and withstands hard mechanical stress without breaking easily.
The design of the handle pays particular attention to ergonomics and safety. The end of the handle is shaped in the traditional “cow’s foot” style. This widening, slightly curved end works as an effective anchor that stops the axe from sliding out of your hand during a powerful swing and blow. The shape allows a more relaxed grip on the handle itself, needing less squeezing force during work, which improves the accuracy and control of the blow and reduces fatigue in the hands and forearms during long periods of work.
Intended use:
This product is intended for use as a spare part in various maintenance and repair tasks.
- Axe maintenance and repair: The product works as a replacement handle when the original axe handle has been damaged by mechanical stress, wear or weather. Changing the handle is a common maintenance task that keeps a tool fleet in working order, for example in forestry, on construction sites and in property maintenance. The new handle makes the tool safe to use again.
Package contents:
- 1 pcs Schwan axe handle, ash
Features:
- Material: Ash (Esche): Ash is a wood species commonly used for the handles of striking tools. As a material, it gives stiffness for power transfer while being able to dampen vibration caused by blows.
- Design: Cow’s foot (Kuhfußform): The end of the handle is ergonomically shaped to widen and curve. This end shape stops the axe from sliding out of your hand during the swing, which allows a more relaxed grip and improves control of the tool.
- Country of origin: Germany: The product is made in Germany.
Technical specifications:
- Material: Ash wood
- Handle type: Cow’s foot style (Kuhfußform)
- Application: Spare handle for axes
- Country of manufacture: Germany
Instructions for use:
Changing the handle requires removing the old handle completely from the eye of the axe head. The new ash handle is fitted into the eye of the axe head. If necessary, the fixing end of the handle can be shaped (e.g. with a rasp or by sanding) to ensure a precise fit. The handle is fixed in place by driving it firmly through the eye. Final locking is done with a wedge (wooden and/or metal wedge), which is driven into the end of the handle to spread the wood and lock the head in place. Before use, make sure the head is absolutely tight on the handle and has no play.
Warnings:
Never use an axe whose handle is loose, split or otherwise damaged. A loose axe head is a serious accident risk to the user and those nearby. Check the condition of the handle and the tightness of the fixing regularly. When fitting a new handle, make sure it is fixed properly and tightly enough so that it cannot come loose during use. Wear safety glasses during fitting, especially when driving wedges.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Does the handle include fixing wedges?
The product is sold as a loose handle only. The wedges needed for fixing must be purchased separately, unless otherwise stated on the product packaging.
Why was ash chosen as the material?
Ash is traditionally used because of its grain structure, which makes it tough and durable. It withstands blows well and dampens shocks better than many other wood species.
Recycling instructions:
A damaged or discarded wooden handle can be disposed of as energy waste or wood waste in line with local waste management regulations.
