Description
The notched trowel with wooden handle is designed for precise, even spreading of building materials such as tile adhesives, adhesives and levelling compounds on various surfaces. The notched blade ensures that exactly the right amount of material is left on the substrate, which helps form an optimal bonding surface for the material being fixed. Thanks to the precise dosing, material waste is minimised and the bond strength of the surface is maximised.
The blade of the tool is made of firm steel that keeps its shape under repeated mechanical stress. The right blade stiffness allows pressure to be spread evenly over the whole spreading surface as the work progresses. The smooth surface of the steel makes the tool easy to clean, which makes maintenance between work stages easier and prevents residue from hardening onto the surface.
The handle is shaped from traditional wood, which gives a natural and secure grip. The wooden material reliably stops the hand from slipping even when working conditions are damp or there is fine dust in the air. The considered shape of the handle supports a neutral wrist position, optimising the ergonomics of stages that call for repeated, long-lasting movements.
Choosing the right tool plays a decisive part in achieving the result you are after. The notched trowel with wooden handle fits seamlessly into a wider tool range and supports the surface treatment requirements of modern construction. Its physical dimensions and centre of gravity are designed so that the material being moved can be handled flexibly and in a controlled way, whatever its viscosity.
Intended use:
- Tiling: Spreading adhesive for various ceramic tiles, natural stone and mosaics on floor and wall surfaces. The notches spread the adhesive optimally in even ridges, which prevents air pockets from forming between the tile and the substrate.
- Levelling compound work: Initial spreading of floor and wall levelling compounds and other similar building compounds. The tool helps spread the compound evenly over large areas before the final smoothing or sanding of the surface.
- Bonding: Dosing construction adhesives onto the substrate. Ensures that the amount of adhesive recommended by the equipment or material manufacturer is transferred to the installation surface, so excess adhesive does not squeeze out of the joints when the materials are pressed together.
Package contents:
- 1 pcs Schwan notched trowel with wooden handle
Features:
- Notched blade: Allows precise dosing of adhesive or glue, forming even ridges on the surface that promote bonding.
- Wooden handle: Gives a secure, comfortable grip, stopping the hand from slipping and improving control of the tool.
- Steel body: Keeps the structural shape of the tool under load and ensures that pulling and pressing forces are spread evenly to the blade.
- Easy to clean: The smooth steel surface does not absorb liquids or binders, so adhesive residue can be rinsed off with water alone before it dries.
Technical specifications:
- Blade material: Steel
- Handle material: Wood
- Fixing type: Sturdy joint between blade and handle
- Working direction: Suitable for pulling and spreading movements
Schwan notched trowel with wooden handle instructions for use:
Before starting work, make sure the surface to be treated is clean, free of grease, dry and dust-free. Mix the tile adhesive, levelling compound or glue according to the manufacturer’s technical instructions. Pick up material with the trowel and spread it on the substrate, first pressing with the smooth back of the blade so that the material bonds firmly to the base. Then turn the tool over and draw parallel grooves in the surface of the adhesive with the notched edge.
For the best notch profile and amount of adhesive, hold the trowel at a steady angle of about 45–60 degrees to the substrate throughout the spreading movement. Clean the tool immediately at the end of the shift, mechanically or by rinsing with water, before the materials harden. Store the tool protected from excessive moisture to maximise the life of the wooden handle and the steel.
Warnings:
- Sharp edges: The thin metal edges and notches of the tool can cause surface scratches or cuts if handled carelessly.
- Exposure to chemicals and dust: The construction chemicals, adhesives and glues spread with the tool can irritate the skin and eyes. Always wear the required protective equipment when spreading.
- Physical strain: Long, repeated spreading movements put strain on the wrists and arms. Make sure you keep an ergonomic working position.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
How do I choose the right notch size for my job?
The notch dimensions are always chosen according to the size of the material being fixed (a tile, for example) and the flatness of the substrate. The larger the piece being installed or the more uneven the substrate, the larger the notch needed to ensure sufficient coverage and bond.
Can I use the tool on outdoor jobs?
Yes, the notched trowel with wooden handle is also fully suitable for outdoor use. However, make sure the tool is not left in the rain or in constant moisture between uses, so the wooden handle does not swell and the metal parts stay in good condition.
How should the handle be cleaned?
Keep the wooden handle free of adhesive splashes as the work progresses. The handle can be cleaned by wiping it with a damp cloth. Avoid soaking the handle in water for long periods, and let it dry freely in a ventilated space after cleaning.
Recycling instructions:
When the tool reaches the end of its life, sort it by material. Remove the steel blade and take it to metal collection. The wooden handle goes to energy waste or mixed waste according to local instructions. If construction chemicals classified as hazardous waste have dried onto the tool, take the tool to a hazardous waste collection point. Sort any packaging materials into cardboard or plastic collection according to their markings.
