Description
Yato cordless random orbital sander 125 mm, body only is an 18 V random orbital sander with a brushless motor, a 125 mm hook-and-loop sanding pad, a speed of 4000–10,000 min⁻¹ and an orbit diameter of 2.5 mm. The machine is designed for dry sanding wood, paint and varnish surfaces and fillers. The body-only model is supplied without a battery and charger for Yato 18V system Li-Ion slide-on batteries.
In a random orbital sander, the sanding pad rotates and oscillates at the same time, so the sanding marks do not form a repeating pattern and the surface becomes even. Electronic speed control with a dial and speed stabilisation keep the speed at the selected level as the load changes: low speeds suit intermediate sanding and finishing, high speeds fast material removal.
The sanding pad takes 125 mm hook-and-loop sanding discs whose hole pattern matches the dust extraction holes in the pad. Dust is directed into the supplied dust bag, and instead of the bag, an industrial vacuum hose can be connected with a separately available adapter. The brushless motor works without replaceable carbon brushes.
The unit weighs 1.69 kg without the battery, insulation class III and vibration 4.012 m/s². The machine is guided by the front handle and the body near the battery slot. Yato 18V batteries YT-828461–YT-828465 also fit other tools in the same system.
Uses and suitability:
The Yato cordless random orbital sander 125 mm, body only, suits sanding furniture, doors, window frames, decking and wooden surfaces, as well as intermediate sanding of painted and varnished surfaces. Large wall and ceiling surfaces have their own machine, the Yato cordless wall sander 18V 215 mm, body only, and for corners and straight edges, a finishing sander such as the Yato sander 18V 84 x 184 mm, body only. An alternative connected to a compressed air network is the Yato random orbital sander 150 mm pneumatic + hose and dust bag.
- Joinery and furniture: Levelling surfaces with a coarse disc and finishing with a fine disc before oil, varnish or paint.
- Painting and varnishing: Roughening old paint and intermediate sanding between varnish coats at low speed.
- Fillers and patching: Levelling filled patches before surface treatment.
- Metal surfaces: Sanding surfaces with discs intended for metal; the same disc is not used on wood afterwards.
- Yato 18V system: The machine uses batteries YT-828461–YT-828465, which are charged with chargers YT-828498–YT-828504.

User instructions for the Yato cordless random orbital sander 125 mm, body only:
All fitting and adjustments are done with the battery removed. Read the entire user manual before first use.
- Sanding disc: Place a 125 mm hook-and-loop disc concentrically on the pad so that the dust extraction holes in the disc and pad line up. Do not use discs that are larger than the pad, worn or damaged.
- Dust bag: Push the bag connector into the dust extraction port until it sits in place. Do not sand without the dust bag or a connected vacuum, and empty the bag regularly.
- Battery and speed: Slide a charged Yato 18V battery into the battery slot until the latches lock. Select the speed on the dial before starting work.
- Starting: Secure the workpiece. Hold the machine with both hands by the front handle and the body without covering the ventilation openings. Place the sanding head flat against the surface, switch on with the power switch and press the start lever.
- Sanding: Move the machine in circles or back and forth with even pressure, with the whole disc surface against the workpiece. Start with a coarse disc and finish with a finer one.
- Stopping: Release the start lever and switch off the machine at the main switch. Wait for the sanding head to stop before putting the machine down; do not stop the pad against the surface.
- Maintenance: Remove the battery and clean the body, ventilation openings and handles with compressed air (max. 0.3 MPa), a brush or a dry cloth.
Warnings:
- Dust: Sanding dust from lead paints and certain materials can be toxic; use a respirator, effective dust extraction and good ventilation.
- Protective equipment: Wear safety glasses, hearing protection and protective gloves.
- Sanding discs: Use only 125 mm discs; a disc extending beyond the pad can catch or cause kickback.
- Vacuum: Do not connect a household vacuum cleaner, as sanding dust can damage it.
- Vibration: Vibration is 4.012 m/s²; take breaks during long sanding sessions.
- Batteries: Use only Yato 18V batteries and their chargers; do not expose the battery to temperatures above 130 °C or short-circuit the terminals.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Are a battery and charger included with the Yato cordless random orbital sander 125 mm body-only model?
No. The delivery includes the sander and a dust bag. Suitable batteries are Yato 18V batteries YT-828461–YT-828465.
Which sanding discs fit the machine?
125 mm hook-and-loop sanding discs whose hole pattern matches the dust extraction holes in the pad, for example Yato YT-83451–YT-83457.
Can the machine be connected to a vacuum?
Yes, to an industrial vacuum with a separately available adapter and a flexible hose. A household vacuum cleaner is not recommended.
What is the benefit of speed control?
Low speeds suit intermediate sanding between varnish coats and finishing, high speeds fast material removal from wooden surfaces.
What does the 2.5 mm orbit diameter mean?
It is the diameter of the eccentric movement of the pad. A smaller movement produces a finer surface, a larger one removes material faster.
Recycling instructions:
The Yato cordless random orbital sander 125 mm, body only, is electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) that must not be disposed of with mixed waste; take it to a WEEE collection point. Return Li-ion batteries separately to battery collection with the terminals taped. Used sanding discs and ordinary sanding dust are disposed of as mixed waste; sanding dust from lead paints is taken to hazardous waste collection. Recycle the cardboard packaging as cardboard.
