Description
Yato cordless polisher 18V 150 mm (YT-82920) is a dual action (DA) polisher with a brushless motor for polishing painted and other smooth surfaces and for sanding with sandpaper. The set includes an 18 V Li-ion battery 3.0 Ah, a charger, an auxiliary handle, a 150 mm hook-and-loop backing plate and three polishing sponges.
In the dual action movement, the backing plate rotates and at the same time makes a 16 mm orbital movement. The movement spreads heat and polish over a wider area than a purely rotary polisher. The maximum backing plate diameter is 150 mm and the spindle thread is M8.
The speed is adjusted steplessly with the rotary dial above the switch between 1500–5000 min⁻¹. According to the manufacturer’s instructions, polishing compound is applied at low speed, and the speed is increased once the compound has been spread on the surface. Soft start reduces the jolt at start-up, and the switch can be locked on.
The supplied charger charges the 3.0 Ah battery in about 1.5 hours. The battery has an LED charge indicator, and the charger shows charging with a red indicator light and a full battery with a green one. The polisher also works with other Yato 18V system batteries.
The device belongs to protection class III, and its IP rating is IP20. The declared sound power level is 99.0 ± 3.0 dB(A) and the vibration value 15.540 / 18.859 m/s², so hearing protection is necessary and the operating time must be limited. The manufacturer’s declaration of conformity covers the standards EN 62841-1 and EN 62841-2-4 and the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

Yato cordless polisher 18V 150 mm user manual:
Read the entire user manual before first use. The battery is supplied uncharged.
- Charging: insert the battery into the charger and plug the charger into a socket. The red indicator light is lit during charging, and the green indicator light indicates a full battery. Unplug the charger and remove the battery from the charging station with the latch button.
- Inspection: remove the battery from the polisher and check the backing plate. A cracked or damaged backing plate must not be used.
- Assembly: attach the auxiliary handle and the backing plate. Attach the polishing sponge to the centre of the hook-and-loop backing plate so that the hook-and-loop surface of the plate does not touch the surface being polished.
- Protective equipment: wear eye protection, hearing protection and work gloves.
- Starting: make sure the switch is off and locked, insert the battery, take a stable stance, press the switch at the rear and push it forward. The switch locks in position I; to stop, press the switch to the rear position (O).
- Speed: spread the polishing compound at low speed and increase the speed once the compound has been spread. Polishing without compound is done at high speed.
- Polishing: start by pressing the side of the sponge lightly against the workpiece, do not press too hard and move the polisher back and forth with even strokes. The outer surface temperature of the body must not exceed 60 °C.
- Finishing and maintenance: put the polisher down only when the backing plate has stopped. Remove the battery and clean the body, ventilation openings and handles with compressed air (max. 0.3 MPa), a brush or a dry cloth without chemicals.
Store the battery at 0–30 °C at about 70% charge, and charge it once a year during long-term storage.
Warnings:
- Personal protective equipment: eye protection, hearing protection (sound power 99 dB(A)) and work gloves; a respirator if necessary.
- Vibration: declared vibration value 15.5–18.9 m/s²; limit continuous operating time and carry out an exposure assessment under actual conditions of use.
- Battery out: remove the battery and lock the switch before fitting or changing accessories and before maintenance.
- Damaged backing plate: a cracked, scratched or otherwise damaged backing plate must not be used.
- Overload: do not overload the polisher; the outer surface of the body must not heat up above 60 °C.
- Charging: use only the supplied charger, charge in a dry place under supervision and unplug the charger immediately if it gives off smoke or a strange smell.
- Battery handling: do not short-circuit the battery terminals. Electrolyte in the eyes → rinse with plenty of water and seek medical attention. A damaged battery must not be used or transported.
- Moisture and explosion hazard: IP rating IP20, so not for use in rain; do not use near flammable liquids, gases or vapours.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
What is the Yato cordless polisher 18V 150 mm suitable for?
Polishing and waxing car, boat or caravan paintwork and sanding surfaces with hook-and-loop sandpaper. The dual action movement suits paintwork because it heats the surface less than a rotary polisher.
What does the set include?
The polisher, an 18 V 3.0 Ah Li-ion battery, a charger, an auxiliary handle, a 150 mm hook-and-loop backing plate and three polishing sponges.
How long does it take to charge the battery?
About 1.5 hours with the supplied charger. The battery is supplied uncharged, so it must be charged before first use.
What is the orbit and why does it matter?
The orbit is the diameter of the eccentric movement of the backing plate’s centre point, 16 mm on this polisher. A larger orbit covers a wider area at a time, and the dual action movement reduces holograms compared with rotary polishing.
Can other Yato 18V batteries be used with the polisher?
Yes, the polisher belongs to the Yato 18V Li-ion system, and a battery from the same system is suitable as an extra battery.
At what speed should polishing start?
The polishing compound is spread at low speed (from 1500 min⁻¹), after which the speed is increased. Polishing without compound is done at high speed.
Recycling instructions:
The Yato cordless polisher 18V 150 mm is electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) that must not be disposed of with mixed waste. Take the polisher and charger to a WEEE collection point.
- Li-ion battery: recycle it separately at a battery collection point; tape the terminals before returning it. The battery is treated as dangerous goods in transport, and a damaged battery must not be transported.
- Polishing sponges and sandpapers: dispose of with mixed waste unless local waste management instructs otherwise.
- Packaging: cardboard and paper to cardboard recycling, plastic parts to plastic recycling.
