Description
Yato cordless pole saw 18V 2 Ah (YT-82836) is a telescopic pole saw from the Yato 18V battery system for maintaining tree crowns and tall shrubs without a ladder. The manufacturer has designed it for cutting branches at a height of about 3–5 metres above the ground. The set includes a 2 Ah Li-Ion battery and a charging station, so the saw is ready to use after charging.
The cutting head has an 8″ (200 mm) guide bar and a 3/8″ (9.525 mm) pitch saw chain with a chain speed of 5 m/s. The motor speed is 2500 min⁻¹ ± 10% and the cutting length 165 mm. The chain is lubricated automatically from a 60 cm³ oil tank, and the oil level can be seen in the indicator on the cutting head.
The pole length is adjusted steplessly between 200–280 cm with a locking lever. The pole is assembled from two sections with a clamp joint, so the saw can be transported and stored as two shorter sections. The chain is tensioned with the knob on the cutting head, and the supplied shoulder strap transfers some of the weight to the shoulder.
The weight of the tool without battery, guide bar and chain is 3.25 kg. The electrical protection class is III, and the sound power level is 90.13 dB(A) (guaranteed sound power level 95 dB(A)). The supplied battery is 18 V / 2000 mAh / 36 Wh, and the charging station charges it in about 1 hour. The battery has a charge level indicator, and the saw also works with other Yato 18V system Li-Ion batteries.
Uses and suitability:
The Yato cordless pole saw 18V 2 Ah is designed only for cutting wood: cutting branches from tree crowns, thinning fruit trees and removing branches from tall shrubs from the ground. Alongside the set’s 2 Ah battery, you can get a spare battery, for example the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery, and for faster charging, the Yato battery charger 18V 2.4-4.5A smart fast charger. Garden tools in the same system also include the Yato cordless pruning shears 18V, body only for cutting thin branches and the Yato cordless chain sharpener 18V, body only for sharpening the saw chain.
- Maintaining tree crowns: with the 200–280 cm pole, branches at a height of about 3–5 metres can be reached while standing firmly on the ground, so no ladder is needed.
- Thinning fruit trees: the 200 mm guide bar and 165 mm cutting length suit formative pruning, where a branch is cut in stages about 15 cm from the trunk.
- Gardens and around buildings: the cordless saw runs more quietly than a petrol machine, and no extension cable is needed.
- Tall shrubs and woody branches: individual woody branches can be removed, but a hedge trimmer is used for shaping hedges; the pole saw is not used for shaping hedges.

Yato cordless pole saw 18V 2 Ah user manual:
Assembly: always remove the battery before assembly and adjustment and wear protective gloves. Loosen the locking knob and remove the side panel, fit the guide bar and chain so that the direction of the chain links matches the arrow on the housing, refit the panel and tension the chain with the knob. When lifted in the middle, the chain should rise only slightly from the guide bar; check the tension every 10 operating hours. Join the pole sections with the clamp lever and make sure the joint is locked.
Oil: fill the tank with oil intended for chain lubrication, not used engine oil, and check the oil level in the indicator with the saw on a level surface. Sawing with an empty oil tank is prohibited. Start the saw at least 3 metres from the filling point.
Adjustments: pull the locking lever open, adjust the pole length and lock the lever. Attach the shoulder strap to the clamp behind the front handle and to the fixing near the switch so that the strap runs diagonally across the chest and the saw can be supported at hip height.
Charging: the battery is supplied uncharged. Insert the battery into the charging station and plug the charger into a socket: the red indicator light is lit while charging and the green one comes on when the battery is full (about 1 h). Charge only in a dry indoor space under supervision and unplug the charger after charging. Check the battery charge by pressing the button on the battery.
Use: push the battery into place until the latches lock, and remove the guide bar cover. Hold the saw with both hands, press the switch lock button and then the switch, and wait for the chain to reach full speed before bringing it against the branch. Cut only with the chain running along the underside of the guide bar, do not use the upper quarter of the guide bar tip and do not stand in line with the cut. Cut a thicker branch first about 15 cm from the trunk and only then next to the trunk.
Maintenance: after every use, check the condition and tension of the chain, tighten loose joints and keep the ventilation openings clean. Have the chain sharpened by a service centre when necessary or replace a damaged chain. Store the saw in a dry, ventilated space with the battery removed and the guide bar cover in place; a little oil may leak from the chain lubrication system during storage.
Warnings:
- Keep the saw well away from power lines; contact between the chain and a live line can cause a fatal electric shock.
- Risk of kickback: do not cut with the tip of the guide bar, do not stand in line with the cut and always hold the saw with both hands.
- Do not work in a tree or on a ladder, and do not hold the saw above shoulder height.
- Watch out for falling and flying branches and for a tensioned branch springing back; prepare an escape route.
- Wear a safety helmet, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective gloves, safety footwear and close-fitting protective clothing.
- Do not use the saw in rain or fog or in a potentially explosive environment.
- Remove the battery before fitting and tensioning the chain, maintenance, transport and freeing a jammed saw.
- Cut only wood; watch out for metal parts and stones in the wood. Keep children and bystanders away from the work area.
