Description
Yato cordless rotary hammer 3.8 J 4 Ah (YT-827740) is an SDS-plus rotary hammer with a brushless motor, supplied with an 18 V 4 Ah Li-Ion battery and a charger. The single impact energy is 3.8 J, a speed of 0–990 min⁻¹ and the impact rate 0–4600 min⁻¹. The rotary hammer drills up to 28 mm in concrete.
The rotary hammer has three operating modes: drilling without impact, hammer drilling and chiselling. The mode is selected with two selectors on the body, one of which switches the impact and the other the rotation. In chiselling mode, rotation is off, so an SDS-pluschisel can be used for light chiselling, chipping and demolition work.
The trigger adjusts the speed and impact rate steplessly according to how far it is pressed. The direction switch above the trigger selects the direction of rotation, and in the middle position it locks the trigger to prevent accidental starting. The front auxiliary handle gives a two-handed grip during hammer drilling.
The tool weighs 3.5 kg without the battery, and the electrical insulation class is III. The sound pressure level is 88.6 dB(A) and vibration during hammer drilling 9.625 m/s², so hearing protection and regular breaks are needed. The rotary hammer runs on Yato 18 V Li-Ion batteries. The charging time of the supplied 4 Ah battery is about 2 hours.
Uses and suitability:
The SDS-plus rotary hammer is designed for hammer drilling and chiselling in concrete, stone, brick and marble. The impact can be switched off, so the same tool also drills wood, metal and plastic.
- Fixing holes in concrete and brick: Holes for anchors, wedge anchors and plugs in hammer drilling mode with an SDS-plus drill bit; the rotary hammer is made for drilling hard mineral materials.
- Electrical and plumbing installations: Holes for brackets, cable routes and pipe clips in walls and ceilings; check for hidden cables and pipes before drilling.
- Light chiselling and demolition: Removing tiles, mortar and render and making grooves in chiselling mode with an SDS-plus chisel.
- Drilling wood and metal: Drilling without impact with a suitable bit and a chuck adapter; thin sheet metal is supported on a wooden base.
Suitable for chiselling are, for example, the Yato SDS+ point chisel 14 x 250 mm and Yato SDS+ flat chisel 20 x 250 mm. A suitable extra battery is the Yato 18V Li-Ion battery. A lighter 2.8 J model in the same system is the Yato SDS+ cordless rotary hammer set 18V 2.8J BL 2 x 4.0 Ah Li-Ion.

Yato cordless rotary hammer 3.8 J 4 Ah user instructions:
Charging: The battery is supplied uncharged. Slide the battery into the charger and plug the charger into a socket; the indicator light shows the charging status. Charging the 4 Ah battery takes about 2 hours.
Fitting the bit: Remove the battery. Clean the bit shank and lubricate it with a thin layer of general-purpose grease. Pull the chuck sleeve back, push the bit into the chuck and turn it until it locks. Release the sleeve and pull to check that the bit is locked.
Operating mode: Change the mode only when the machine has stopped. Drilling without impact: impact selector to the drill bit symbol and rotation selector to the hammer and drill bit symbol. Hammer drilling: both selectors to the hammer and drill bit symbol. Chiselling: impact selector to the hammer and drill bit symbol and rotation selector to the hammer symbol. Do not leave the selectors between the markings.
Drilling: First check that there are no hidden electrical cables, gas or water pipes at the drilling point. Select the direction of rotation only when the machine has stopped. Hold the rotary hammer with both hands by the main handle and the auxiliary handle. Start at low speed, press evenly in line with the bit and pull the bit out from time to time to remove dust. When drilling large holes, first drill a smaller pilot hole.
Maintenance: Remove the battery and clean the body, ventilation openings and switches with compressed air (max. 0.3 MPa), a brush or a dry cloth. The temperature of the outer surfaces must not exceed 60 °C; take breaks. Store the tool and battery in a dry place out of the reach of children.
Warnings:
- Read the user manual before use. Wear safety glasses, hearing protection and protective gloves.
- Remove the battery before changing the bit, selecting the mode, making adjustments and maintenance.
- Check walls and floors for hidden electrical cables, gas and water pipes; hold the tool by the insulated gripping surfaces.
- Always use the auxiliary handle and keep a firm stance, as a jamming bit causes a strong reaction torque.
- Change the operating mode and direction of rotation only when the machine has stopped.
- Do not use the rotary hammer to power attachments.
- Charge batteries only with a Yato 18 V charger in a dry place under adult supervision; do not short-circuit the battery terminals.
- Not for use by children. Not for rain or damp rooms.
