Description
Yato cordless ratchet 160 Nm body is an 18 V cordless impact ratchet with a 1/4″ (6.3 mm) hex quick-release chuck, a maximum torque of 160 Nm and a brushless motor. It comes with a 1/4″–1/2″ adapter for sockets. The body-only model is supplied without a battery or charger, for Li-Ion slide batteries of the Yato 18V system.
The ratchet is designed for loosening and tightening screws, nuts and bolts even in demanding maintenance conditions. The impact mechanism makes it easier to loosen seized joints and reduces the risk of damaging fasteners. The angle head and short body fit into tight spots that a straight impact wrench cannot reach.
The control panel has four operating modes, with which the torque and impact rate are matched to the work: three speed ranges 0–1100 / 0–1450 / 0–1750 min⁻¹ and the corresponding impact rates 0–1500 / 0–2100 / 0–2600 min⁻¹ as well as a tightening mode. In tightening mode, when turning clockwise, the automatic stop stops the tool at the target torque, and anticlockwise the tool loosens at full speed and slows down when the fastener loosens.
The brushless motor works without wearing carbon brushes. The tool weighs 1.25 kg, its insulation class is III and its operating temperature -10…+40 °C. The set version of the same ratchet with a 4 Ah battery and charger is YT-828030.
Uses and suitability:
Impact-rated 1/4″ hex bits are fitted to the ratchet, such as the Yato impact bit set 37-piece, or 1/2″ sockets via the supplied adapter, for example the Yato socket set 12 pcs, 1/2″ 10–24 mm. For changing socket sizes, suitable reducers include the Yato socket adapter set 3-piece, 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″ 75 mm.
- Vehicle maintenance: Loosening and tightening screws and nuts in the engine bay, chassis and brackets in tight spots.
- Seized joints: The impact mechanism loosens rusted and tight screw joints without straining a hand ratchet.
- Bit screwdriving: Driving screws with 1/4″ impact bits using the angle head, for example when installing furniture and equipment.
- Repeated tightening: The automatic stop in tightening mode helps when tightening the same joint repeatedly before checking with a torque wrench.
- Yato 18V system: The ratchet uses batteries YT-828461–YT-828465, charged with chargers YT-828498–YT-828502.
Package contents:
- Cordless impact ratchet (body only)
- Adapter 1/4″ (6.3 mm) hex shank → 1/2″ (12.7 mm) square
Battery, charger, bits and sockets not included.
Features:
- Torque 160 Nm: Also enough for loosening tight screw joints.
- Impact mechanism: 0–1500 / 0–2100 / 0–2600 impacts/min depending on the speed range.
- Four operating modes: Three speed ranges and a tightening mode with automatic stop and slowing release.
- 1/4″ hex quick-release chuck: Impact-resistant 1/4″ bits and, via the adapter, 1/2″ sockets.
- Brushless motor: No replaceable carbon brushes, stable operation under load.
- Angle head and short body: Fits into tight spots.
- Stepless speed control and reversing: The speed increases with how far the trigger is pressed; the reversing switch changes between tightening and loosening.
- Overload clutch: Engages when the permitted torque range is exceeded.

Yato cordless ratchet 160 Nm body user manual:
Carry out all preparation and assembly with the battery removed. Read the entire user manual before first use.
- Battery: Push a charged Yato 18V battery into the battery slot until the latches lock. Remove the battery by pressing the latch and sliding the battery out.
- Bit or socket: Push a 1/4″ impact bit into the quick-release chuck. For a socket, push the 1/4″ shank of the adapter into the chuck until it locks and place a 1/2″ socket on the square of the adapter.
- Mode and direction: Select the direction of rotation with the reversing switch. Start the tool, and the indicator light of the selected mode lights up; change the mode with the control panel button.
- Working: First turn the fastener by hand at least two turns. Hold the tool with both hands, place the bit or socket on the fastener before pressing the trigger and start at low speed.
- Tightening: When the impact mechanism starts hammering, the joint has tightened; release the trigger. Check the tightening with a torque wrench; the loosening torque is on average 75–80% of the tightening torque.
- With the adapter: The assembly is longer, so avoid sudden movements and excessive axial pressure. The adapter must not be used as a hand lever.
- Finishing: Remove the battery, remove the socket and adapter, check their condition and clean the body and ventilation openings with compressed air (max. 0.3 MPa), a brush or a dry cloth.
Warnings:
- Protective equipment: Wear safety glasses, protective gloves and hearing protection.
- Noise and vibration: The sound power level is 106 dB(A) and the vibration 19.0 m/s²; wear hearing protection and take breaks.
- Impact bits only: Use undamaged bits and sockets designed for impact use; do not use cracked, bent or worn parts.
- Hidden wiring: Hold the tool by its insulated gripping surfaces if the accessory may hit a live wire.
- Overtightening: The longer the joint is impacted, the tighter it becomes; avoid overtightening small fasteners.
- Batteries: Use only Yato 18V batteries and their chargers. Do not short-circuit the battery terminals, do not use a damaged or modified battery and do not expose the battery to temperatures above 130 °C.
- Heating: Do not overload the tool; the outer surface temperature must not exceed 60 °C.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Are a battery and charger included with the Yato cordless ratchet 160 Nm body?
No. The ratchet and a 1/4″–1/2″ adapter are included. The set version with a 4 Ah battery and charger is YT-828030.
Can 1/2″ sockets be fitted to the ratchet?
Yes, with the supplied adapter. The adapter is pushed into the 1/4″ quick-release chuck and the socket onto the 1/2″ square of the adapter.
What is the difference between this and the Yato 110 Nm cordless ratchet?
This model has an impact mechanism, a 1/4″ hex socket and 160 Nm; Yato YT-828033 / YT-828035 are non-impact 1/2″ ratchets with 110 Nm of torque.
What does the tightening mode do?
When turning clockwise, the tool stops automatically at the target torque; anticlockwise, it loosens at full speed and slows down when the fastener loosens.
Which batteries fit?
